To: numan@cs.uwp.edu Hi, I'm still looking for _any_ Paul Gardiner Information at all, I have been trying to scrape together enough info to make a Tribute Web page to My Hero, ' Paul Gardiner' but, progress is slow. I was in regular(ish) contact with one of Paul's friends a few months ago, but sadly, lost his phone number :(( so that was that i guess. Any info, please, would be _so_ gratefully appreciated of course. PS:: 'Donald' Please get in touch again, if you're still on the list .. thanks. I mean the very first note sound's like it was done useing one of the instrument's from the Telekon album. The melody is dark like Telekon as well. To put it in your word's, "haunting". Perfect analogy! :) Love the song too! You can just see him standing there holding that tube in his black and red saying.. (singing) Im traped inside and dyin'. Too cool! Realy, to me, it could have passed as an extra on the reissued Telekon album. You know, that RECIVER CD didn't say what album's these song's were lifted from.I had no idea how old, or what year they came from. Right after I sent my responce in to the digest, I went to 1 of the web sites to look up where they came from, and what year recorded. I was shocked to see where some came from. M&S for one. I kinda liked The Skin Game. Wouldn't want him to record it again though. thank's.. intresting stuff! ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 16 Apr 1999 01:02:03 -0400 From: "Ken" Subject: Empty Bed, Empty Heart To: Hi All! To: numan@cs.uwp.edu Bonsoir! I know there are native French speakers on the Digest. To them and to the Digest in general I address this question: Should I translate my site, Scary Numan, into French? (I would, of course, provide it in addition to my present site in English.) Already there are Numan sites in German, Spanish, Flemish, Swedish... would Numan fans from le monde francophone appreciate a Numan site in French, even if the French were imperfect (as my student's French inevitably is)? It could be a fun (!) project for me, if I actually do have the time to do it; my attempt at translating the lyrics to "Are 'Friends' Electric?" was very amusing. An example of my somewhat-dubious ability to speak (and do the tedious HTML for) this lovely language is available at http://scary.garynumanfan.nu . Obviously, if you're reading this, you know a fair amount of English. I'm afraid that so many French speakers already know English that a site in French would be unnecessary. But it could garner more visits to my site (and that's what's important, right? grin!), it would be one more non-English Numan site, and it could even - yes - become a school project. And Scary Numan hasn't had any new features in months. :-) Sooo.... que pensez-vous? Whaddaya think? A bientot! I asked Brian at Cleopatra if we could license the IRS catalog (or at least a few tracks for a singles compilation) and he said he'd ask Miles Copeland (owner of IRS). Meanwhile on Numan's web site Gary announced that Capitol Records (I assume in the UK only) are about to re-issue the three IRS cds. So you may be able to get a copy one way or another. The Cleopatra version of Berserker is due to be released May 4th in the US. The four bonus tracks are different from the 1999 Eagle release. First of all Derek commented on how he thought that in the UK, indie shops were better/cheaper than main stores like HMV and Virgin. I have to say that more of the main stores are a lot more willing to stock Numan stuff, especially if you want it on the day of release, like me (except for the Domino Day saga!). Indie shops are cheaper, but don't seem as likely to have a good Numan selection. Windows in Newcastle are very good (couldn't resist the chance for an advertisement !), they currently have in the new reissues of Berserker, The Fury, Machine and Soul, and Sacrifice for 8.99 or buy two, get one free - so you can get three for 18 quid- with most other mid-price CDs as well! Oddly enough there weren't any copies of Strange Charm - maybe Mr. Joseph has nabbed all copies to spare us all :-) The worst places are stupid stores like OurPrice. They never stock much Numan stuff, and they're expensive. Even so it's the best record store in Darlington, my home town. I tend to buy most of my CDs in Newcastle. A Beggars rarities disc? In the voice of Homer Simpson: WOO-HOO ! This disc simply *MUST* have the 12" versions of the I, Assassin singles (including US 12" promo of "White Boys and Heroes") then I'll be one happy boy! Slight disappointment that I, Assassin and Warriors remastered have been put back to next year, I like both these albums more than Dance. Then again, it may save my bank balance :-) Ben Iglar-Mobley also commented on Living Ornaments '80. I only have this album on scratchy old vinyl, so a CD of it in any form would be nice. Hopefully the original tapes will be found, because I understand that on that tour, Gary did "Stories" and "Telekon" that haven't been on any other live recording. The farewell concert was a good substitute, IMO because all the songs that were on LO 80 are also on that disc, and albeit slightly different versions. However, I'd prefer both! The Cleopatra re-issue of Strange Charm is in stores now, I think it turned out pretty good. The main selling point (for me) is that it has the original 12" mix of New Thing From London Town on it, unavailable on cd except for the compilation "Remodulate". The release date for Machine and Soul in the US is May 25th. The album is not the same as the box set version or the recent Eagle release, and has seven bonus tracks. I used the same photo for the cover that Gary used on the 1999 Eagle re-issue, but without the squiggly art design. The catalog number is CLP 541.
