To: numan@cs.uwp.edu As we all know Gary has balked at the task of doing anyone elses work (exc. for On Broadway, and the unlistenable 1999 & You Got The Look). The lost b-side of She's Got Claws - Gary's version of Wang Chung's 'Dance Hall Days' Lost 'Fury' recording session track - Pet Shop Boys 'West End Girls' 'Warriors' throw back - 'Everything's Gone Green' by New Order just a thought - more to follow - Cheers _______________________________________________________________ Get Free Email and Do More On The Web. The original UK PH was Gary in >Dance gear in front of a panel of TV sets. > >James Hello. Correct me if I'm wrong... Premier Hits was originally released in 1996 to coincide with the single (Cars) being on the Carling Lager commercial in the UK by Polygram TV, a division of Polygram Records. This version has a full (from knees to hat) Gary in the brown Dance suit, pearl brooch and white lipstick (been there!!) (in public yet) (1981) standing in front of a bank of tv screens showing presumably the commercial in question and a large image of Gary from the Telekon era. Catalog # 531 149 It was later re-issued with the purple/blue Dance shot (same outfit), only much more close up and a white bar across the top if the cd. This was issued by Beggars Banquet and in a unique move, the UK and US versions are identical, and have both the UK and the US addresses of BB on the bottom of the back panel, although mine says "Printed in England". I believe BB printed the cds in England and then imported copies for North American distribution. Catalog # BBL 2007 CD Both versions say 'digitally remastered' and the track listing is identical. In Q magazine a few weeks ago they reviewed the album without showing a picture, so it was obviously re-issued again... in the latter version? with the same catalog number? Automatic BTW is out of print, although Esprit linked to the AFE site were selling it for 15pounds the last time I looked but it may have gone now. So has The Mix replaced SC supporting your table leg, or why not use it as a beer mat like I do with Techno Army? :-) Cheers James ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 27 May 1999 00:59:47 -0600 From: "Joey Lindstrom" Subject: Telekon Flamefest To: "Gary Numan" On Thu, 27 May 99 01:00:02 CDT, Tom Gorham wrote: >>Where were you in 1993 when Beggars reissued it without the alternate >>mixes? > >Two reasons: (1) I didn't have a CD player at the time; (2) my vinyl >edition was still purring along nicely. You tell me Joey - does the different >track listing actually ADD anything? Yes, as a matter of fact, but my experience may be slightly different. I had both the UK and Canadian versions of Telekon (the former on cassette, the latter on vinyl), thus I had all twelve "album" tracks - and I always found it a royal pain in the ass to have to switch albums (and, indeed, media) to hear the entire thing. Now I get them all together on one CD, along with several bonus tracks (which, if I'm feeling nostalgic, I will NOT listen to - I'll just listen to the first twelve and then press STOP). >At the end of the day, though, surely it's my choice? I don't want to buy >the album. I'm sure hundreds of others do. But there's no sin in having >your own reasons not to buy anything - and I think you should respect >that. Sorry, I don't. You came in here and criticized Beggars Banquet over putting out a flawed CD, and then when you identified that flaw, it was the most nit-pickiest reason I'd ever heard. What I do respect is your right to have, and express, your opinion - but that doesn't mean I have to respect the opinion itself. I don't. Furthermore, I have the right to my OWN opinion and to express it as you've done. You don't have to respect my opinion either - and you've already made it quite clear that you don't. Fine and dandy, we agree to disagree. I mean, c'mon... they inserted one track after track 5 and another after track 10, but in all other respects the track order is identical to the original. What's the problem with skipping one track and hitting STOP after the 10th (original) track? (Actually I'm refering to the 1993 release here, which you've admitted you wouldn't buy for this reason. The 1998 release, due to its remixing, is a different kettle of fish as it would undoubtedly interfere with your enjoyment, as the remixed tracks don't have the same nostalgia factor to them) I reiterate my earlier offer. Buy the new reissue. Send me a photocopy of your receipt along with four dollars and YOUR REQUESTED TRACK ORDER. I'll use cuts from the new reissue where possible (ie: when Beggars hasn't used a different mix) and go back to the 1993 version for those tracks that got remixed (though I'll probably need a bit of help from others here in identifying them - other than "I Die: You Die", I don't recall which ones got changed, most of the changes were so minor...). I'll even throw in any of the bonus tracks that I've got room for (74 minutes max). / From the messy desktop of Joey Lindstrom / Email: Joey@GaryNumanFan.NU or joey@lindstrom.com / Phone: +1 403 313-JOEY / FAX: +1 413 643-0354 (yes, 413 not 403) / Visit The NuServer! http://www.GaryNumanFan.NU / Visit The Webb! http://webb.GaryNumanFan.NU / / I will accept any rules that you feel necessary to your freedom. I've been silently reading all these postings which either slag off or praise Rod Reynolds work on the Cleo reissues. I'M GOING TO BUY 'EM ALL! Yes, even M+S. I'm glad that someone who cares greatly about the music itself was on this project, just imagine what we would have got if some "numan who?" had done the remastering, etc... (shudder).
