Looked in Billboard magazine for July 3rd, Fear Factory's version of Cars is at number 17 in the modern rock category. That's all Brad ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 01 Jul 1999 11:22:32 BST From: James Chapman Subject: fans To: numan@cs.uwp.edu Hello all, Jean Burgess has it exactly right. I take most of the arguments us regulars have are a very minor issue compared to what Danny T wrote. Sure, there will be pepole out there who only like the first few albums, but those people will never be fans of Numan, more a certain type of music. Gary did not suddenly start becoming shite with Dance, he changed musical directions. For the people who liked Dance and the albums that had gone before, they were so different that the artist must have been something special. I also get very angry when I read comments like "Everything between (say) Berserker through Machine and Soul was shite" because it wasn't. It was just more dancey/funky. Some people actually like the female vocals. It's nice to see some Strange Charm defenders coming out in the last couple of digests, I always though I was a bit odd for having that album as my favourite :-) Some people critise it for whatever reason (inconsistency), but it's only inconsistent beacuse the songs are varied. That's a good thing IMO. I remember the first few times I listened to Exile, I struggled to differentiate between the songs because they were all so similar. I remember around the new year, a certain King Richard was getting flamed all over for saying he didn't like Exile, because he didn't like the musical direction Gary took with it. "Exile was shite" deserves a flaming, "I didn't like the musical direction" doesn't. It's just possible someone might like funk but not Goth - we all like different things. I remember Matthew Roberts also said something about people tendancy to prefer a bands' earlier sound. I think this is inevitable, because if an artist starts out as something, then changes into something else, people are bound to disconnect. But on the other hand someone who likes Gary's most recent type of music , or fans of bands who have named Gary as an influence, may start with Exile and work backwards. But without much in the way of radioplay, this figure is always going to be less, although the Numan fan base has undoubtebly grown in the last 5 years or so. I actually like Gary's mid-career best, I must be one of the few who do. I think every Numan album is well-written, just some (ie Strange Charm) appeal to my particular tastes more than others (Exile) I am NOT living in the past, I assure you. :-) Just listening to older music makes me happier than listening to newer music. Thanks for the response in particular from ade. If the offer is still available I would be very pleased to take one. The reason why there has been a long pause is that I managed to catch some kind of virus which left me in hospital for three weeks, even stopped my liver and kidneys working for a while. I was in intensive care on June 12th and from 8 till about half ten I just starred at the clock wondering who will have used my ticket. I asked one of the nurses if they would let me out for the night, she said yes if you can get out of bed i.e. no fucking chanch. I never thought there was anything that would or could keep me away from a Numan show! I am really pissed if I am informed correctly that numan sang My Shadow, My favourite live song and I've not heard it for yonks. It seems numan must have wobbled a bit though.....the sleeproom? That steady flow of pleading emails to numan finally paid of Mr Chapman:-) A not proud but starting to see the funny side of 'I missed the forum gig and had dialyses instead (in vain)' PS I read some where that the sound quality was not so good......HA ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 3 Jul 1999 22:47:01 +0100 From: "Stephen Page" Subject: midi files To: does anyone have any 80's midi files they would be willing to send me ? ie ultravox, visage, omd, numan, human league etc etc All sends would be very much appreciated thanks Stephen "I like romantics, but I don't like Stephen" A proud member of Boys Like Us ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 1 Jul 1999 09:58:25 -0400 (EDT) From: doublephones@webtv.net (Tommy) Subject: mtv SUX!!! To: numan@cs.uwp.edu How in the world did Numan not win that damn video contest? The fix is in, cuz IMHO, belle academy's vid & song both sucked! not just saying that either, it purely sucked! at least the vid is said to come out on july 26th, but if anyone has it on tape please let me know, i would love a copy if possible. also, if anyone has any Numan footage when he was on saturday night live or any interviews, i would be interested in that also. quick question, were there any other videos released or made from the exile album besides dominion day? i'm yet to see any of them, cuz in the states, mtv only shows the worlds worse videos. if anyone out there has any exile vids on tape, please let me know what they are, i would love a copy of them. so the new album doesn't come out till february, that seems like forever away, but i believe it will be worth the wait. does anyone know the difference between the bbc live & radio one recordings albums? do they have the same track listings, & are they worth purchasing? by the way, for those who have been brainwashed to believe that the Numallennium is the year 2000, sorry to break the news to you, but it isn't till 2001, there was no year 00, it all began in the year 01, 1001 was the first millennium, making 2001 the 2nd millennium. thank you for your time Numanoids, it is appreciated. ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 03 Jul 1999 20:23:18 +0100 From: Colin McCarthy Subject: Newsgroups To: numan@cs.uwp.edu At last there is a dedicated Numan Newsgroup!!! alt binaries music numan Use it for all your Numan trivia and faq! ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 3 Jul 1999 00:29:55 +0100 From: "robflanagan" Subject: PAINTBALL PHOTOGRAPH To: This is a multi-part message in MIME format.
