Second, Joey and I buried it - and the copyright 101 class only lasted 3 weeks, not 4. Plain text works very well. Remember that this and any internet based group is going out all over the world to every type of computer you could imagine. It's best to stay with black & white, even if it seems boring. B) using all caps is considered SHOUTING and is very rude. You will likely receive some nasty responses to your post. C) you have made a good point. The last few months the digests have been rather to really boring but there hasn't been much to talk about. Or there has but nobody's been around. Or something. It comes and goes and there have been *much* worse topics on this list over the years trust me. (let's not go there). There have been a few new releases in the last couple months (Radio One Broadcasts for one) but not much really happening on the Numan front. He is apparently recording in his new home studio and the new album may be out in the spring. Some people can't tolerate these long waits and go off the deep end on completely unrelated (or barely related such as copyright laws) topics and since this list is very not moderated one can pretty much say what one will. And reap the consequences... D) if you have specific questions please post them and surely you will get more in depth anwers than you could ever dream. If you have a topic *please* bring it to the 'table'. We could sure use some good ones... E) it is a good idea to sign your posts with an actual name, especially if you're new, so we can get to know you. There are some really great people on this list. > >From: Valerie Iglar-Mobley >Subject: raving over Radio One Recordings > > >While I'm gushing about re-dos, can I mention also that I lucked into a >copy of the "My World Storm" ep remixed by Rockers Uptown. I didn't >expect much from it, since Gary dissed it so badly in his biog, but I >think it's fantastic. True, it's a departure from his sound, but no >more so than anything on 'The Mix.' I would even argue this is more >faithful than any of those. The Renegade Soundwave versions of "Are >'Friends' Electric?" are definitely more faithful, using the original >synth lines, though they're layered over a hip-hop beat. > > >Benjamin Iglar-Mobley > These two tracks were among those I had remastered (or mastered) for inclusion on the US release of Berserker. Gary wrote me an email and told me he would be very upset to find these tracks on a Numan album as he felt they had nothing to do with him (actually he used much harsher language which I won't repeat here). For this reason he can also be very coy when asked directly about The Mix. He doesn't like people messing with his music. I too think these tracks are worthy of inclusion and felt as bonus tracks they would have been perfect. Having never been released on cd in the world, it would have done sales on the US Berserker re-issue a much needed interest boost. Oh well... It was sadly very cloudy so the eclipse was 'eclipsed'. I looked out over the ocean and watched the clouds turn into the most menacing sight I have ever seen. The wave of darkness was awesome, It engulfed everything. Unbelievably fast. A surreal event. I felt like I was in 'Exile' the movie, no fuck that the real thing! Words like 'In his darkness, I can feel the storm come. In his darkness, I hear screams that hide the voice of God.' Came to mind. Well there you go, the most impressive natural phenomenon I have ever experienced and Numan stole the show. I am truly a lost cause! To: numan@cs.uwp.edu (Gary Numan) NO ARE FRIENDS ELECTRIC ON EUROROCK. This was, in short, what the papers wrote in their comments. Going from disbelieve to sheer anger. one paper wrote 'crowd upset by Gary - No Are friends electric?-Numan.' to 'crowd gets angry while Numan refuses to play Are friends electric' And indeed, whilst Gary didn't need a lot to come, see and conquer, his not playing AFE was the major comments and conclusion afterwarts. If he would have played it as a last song, he would have had the whole crowd (+/- 10,000) in his pocket. The crowd was really waiting for this song! It was a capital mistake to make, since a lot of youngsters were there to react on this song, but also a lot of 30+. One of the journalists of a major serious newspaper in Belgium said to me that AFE was the first single he bought when he was 11... Gary should know that AFE made the top 10 in 1979, but the AFE Live in 1984 got to number 2!!!!!!!! It should have priority over obscure (for the Belgian crowd) songs like Question of faith or the f**** Absolution. I don't want to re-start the discussionwheather or not Gary should play AFE on tour. I have seen Gary live 27 times, and for me it is not really necessary. And probably, it's no longer necessary in teh UK. But in Europe, Gary has no choice. When you talk about Numan, the reaction is always. Oh yes, AFE and Cars. But anyway, the sound was perfect (for those who remember The Forum ;-)), the weather perfect, the atmosphere perfect, etc.. This comes in my top 5 of best Numan concerts ever. So Gary still has it, and I hope he will come to more festivals soon! It's like Ken Starr producing that whole report to show that Clinton DID have sexual relations, and therefore lied under oath (for which Bill was recently fined $90,000). Has anyone else in the US noticed that the mainstream record stores are starting to carry more and more Numan discs? It used to be that he either didn't have a slot or his slot was always empty. >From digest 551: b) I can't remember the six digit figure of acres of the Amazon rain forest that are being bulldozed away every other day, anyone notice a change in the weather lately? I've been hearing this blatant lie for over ten years now. Gee, don't you think the entire rain forest would be gone by now if it were actually true? and: c) Alec Way has more compassion in the tip of his little finger than Rush Blimpaugh has in all of his pro clubbing walrus to death persona will ever fathom. Yeah, and Limbaugh has more intelligence in HIS little finger than you've got in your entire head. Doubt that? Listen to the man's show for a month. He'll cure you of that disease called liberalism. And who's Alec Way? Finally, forget the walrus clubbing crap. Clinton supports the massacre of unborn and partially born children. M. Tressler "Murder a dog, you're a criminal. Isn't it about time Intolerance (and all the other Tik & Tok stuff for th= at matter) was released on CD? I would have thought a few thousand sales could be achieved through Internet word of mouth alone. There must be some record company drone somewhere who could be persuaded with the right type of prodding. For the unenlightened, Intolerance was the rather excellent Tik & Tok alb= um from 1984. It includes a cover of A Child With The Ghost and a guest appearance from Gary Numan's keyboards on another track. Other musicians appearing on the= album include Rrussell Bell, Tessa Niles and Joe Hubbard. So come on Tim, give us all the gossip on those Numan tours. What's the truth about Joe and Gary's dressing room argy bargy?
