I assure you, "Danny T" that my intelligence outweighs your attempts at being sage any day. If you like, I am sure that we can arrange some sort of I.Q. test or something similar to prove it. The proof is in the pudding, thick head...too bad you'll never see it! I find it quite amazing how many dolts there are in the world. You must be their fearless leader. Cary Wiltz ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 04 Sep 1999 22:56:39 -0400 From: dagonet@netwide.net (Don McCrum) Subject: Coloursound To: Gary Numan List Not really Numan-ish, but I think some of you out there will like Coloursound. Coloursound has Mark Peters from The Alarm, Billy Duffy from The Cult, Craig Adams from The Mission U.K. and The Sisters of Mercy (right?), and Johnney Donnelly (from The Saw Doctors, whoever they are-- I'm American: I'm lucky I know who Gary Numan is). Pretty good. Definitely worth a click.... http://www.coloursound.com/ D * * * The universe cherishes her beautiful people, so save the Alpha-assed chest-beating for the bedroom. http://www.netwide.net/users/dagonet/ ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 3 Sep 1999 13:21:46 +0100 From: "Steve Webbon" Subject: Dance To: "numan list" Dance To answer David and Benjamin's questions regarding Dance... 'Face to face' belongs on Dance as it was part of those sessions. The inclusion on Warriors was tenuous - it only appeared as 'Letters' by mistake. And the track 'Dance' is the best contender to be the track that Gary intended to be released as 'Letters'. If that makes sense!! Having included all those tracks there wasn't enough time left for either Love needs no disguise or the slightly extended 12" version of Moral. LNND was only a Gary guest vocal and it's also remastered on the Premier Hits album so it was the obvious track to drop. As to what's on Warriors... I can't remember offhand, is the 12" sister surprise the same as the album version? It would be great if there was a surviving tape of the Bill Nelson mix but I'm not too hopeful. Ideally something interesting will appear when we get access to the studio masters. - steve ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 02 Sep 1999 22:08:30 -0700 From: Derek Langsford Subject: Dance this mess around To: numan@cs.uwp.edu In Digest #569 Valerie Iglar-Mobley responded to Dave Carroll (Hi Dave - long time no chat) who wrote: >> I haven't gotten this yet but I've read about it here and on the >> Beggars Banquet website. Why isn't "Love Needs No Disguise" on it >> (as it was on the Japanese Asylum release)? Was it a legal issue? >> I'm a bit disappointed. Benjamin responded >I'm guessing it was left off because of time constraints; they just >couldn't fit everything that was on the 'Asylum' version and "Face to >Face" AND the new track "Dance"... so something had to give. I'm >guessing that their thinking was, because "Disguise" wasn't written by >Gary, it's the least "Gary" song of the lot. The CD is 75:54 long. Mine arrived 6 days after I ordered it - great service BB. Don't forget "Love Needs No Disguise" was remastered for Premier Hits. >Here's my question, though. Why did they move "Face to Face" from >'Warriors'-- which had so much spare time on that disc that they >included two versions of the "E Reg Model" version of "Cars" on it, even >with all the b-sides from that album-- to 'Dance', where it bounced out >"Love Needs No Disguise"? I suspect that "Face to Face" was a Dance-era track dusted off for a quick b-side appearance two years later. Take a good listen - it really fits this era not "Warriors." While it is great to have a new Numan track, it is clear "Dance" was not fully developed as a song. Reminds me of the early version of WTM compared to the finished versions. >What are they going to do with all the time they've cleared on the >'Warriors' disc now that they've taken "Letters" off of it? Is some >other new material in the pipeline? Perhaps, or maybe they ahve found a real track called "Letters" that is different from "Face to Face" :-) Looking forward to "I, Assassin" and "Warriors." He has sent an e-mail to all the John Foxx fans trying to sell his new mag+cd for £8. I sent him an e-mail back to tell him that I thought it was a bit steep and he went all childish and personal on me. Hey Danny, I am really offended..........NOT. I would like to repeat the phrase that I included on one of my replies to your e-mail.....FUCK OFF OK????? Get the point??? love to everyone except Danny. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 02 Sep 1999 22:20:29 -0700 From: Derek Langsford Subject: In Praise of Beggars Banquet and Dance To: numan@cs.uwp.edu I wanted to publically praise Beggars Mail Order for their prompt delivery of copies of Dance and The Plan. Keep up the good work. For those of you who don't have it, I highly recommed getting the remaster of Dance. It is very clean and sounds wonderful. The artwork is again excellent with extra pictures, covers to the singles, a reproduction of the poster from the original UK vinyl issue. Superb. I love the sound Gary used on this album. I just adore Cry, the Clock Said and Crash. My only criticism would have been to whiten Gary's teeth on the photo behind the disc (maybe I've lived in the States too long:-) The Plan is my least favourite "Numan" album. but the CD reamster is true to form and by putting the old cover on the other side of the booklet, you can be traditional or revisionist. Hearing Don't be a Dummy takes me back. I remember the Lee Cooper jeans ad and would never have guessed that the singer would become my favorite artist. Gary got paid #40 for that if I remember correctly. Just to lend some perspective on how far Gary is from megastardom - Bob Dylan and Paul Simon were both asking for $250K guaranteed for each concert they performed on recent tours. And the shows happened, but I don't know if the promoters made any money. Concert tickets are going for $50 to $120 now as a result. Seeing Gary for $20 was a bargain. To: numan@cs.uwp.edu Having read through the last 5 digests full of let's slag each other off for their opinions I think Tim's positive idea is a good one, even if all it does is stop the circular arguments on who is in the right. I don't know anyone concerned personally and maybe the mails are the result of Danny T throwing a low blow, but how about getting back on track as to why we, I would guess, subscribe to the mail. I joined the mailing list to hear what is going on in the Numan world and to hear from fellow minded fans. There has been information in the last few mails, but it is has been hidden by the rantograms. I have not subscribed for long so I don't know what topics have been discussed in the past, but is this negativity really down to the mailing going stale? If this is the case I can only hope that Gary releases something new soon so new topics can be discussed. If this isn't the case let's start with something new. My hands are in the air if anyone wants to shot me for this mail. Regards Craig I wish Gary would convince my wife that driving up to Manchester for his next concert is a good idea. She doesn't understand that a 450 mile round trip is nothing in comparison to what some people have to do to get to see Gary in concert. p.s. I am going to Amsterdam and Munich in the next couple of weeks. Does anyone on the mailing list know of any good record shops that I might be able to pick up some Dutch / German pressings? ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 2 Sep 1999 07:42:31 -0700 From: Pythoness Subject: Knickers To: numan@cs.uwp.edu >Given this new insight, the question is: so girls, does he still possess >this mysterious "dampening" effect then? Stop fighting and listen to some good news. I am creating the first North American Gary Numan Tribute which I have entitled The Church of Gary Numan: A Dark Celebration. I am working on this day and night. Some of the tracks will include a very punchy version of Cars, a jazz version of Cars, a rave-techno version of You Are In My Vision, an accoustic, folkish version of You Are In My Vision, a very dark and gothic version of Down in the Park, and a classical guitar version of Jo the Waiter. I am working on other reinterpretations as well. The CD will have 10 -12 tracks when completed, cover and booklet art, stories, etc. This is a fantasy project for me and I will make it available for anyone interested.
