It's fun to hate women, isn't it? but not as fun as homophobia: "Put their fingers in a dyke, ' Well you know it's what she needed' ". or xenophobia: "No war machine, so everybody wants peace?" But then Gary isn't R Kelly, so maybe we don't have to take everything at= face value. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 23 Sep 1999 00:44:29 -0700 From: Pythoness Subject: Blessings To: numan@cs.uwp.edu >> I love the line "Kneel down bitch and be truly blessed". Awesome. > >Ah, misogeny. It's fun to hate women, isn't it? Ah, now, hang on. Is the line being taken in context? I'm one of the rather more radical feminist-type of person, and I *love* "Metal Beat." Remember it's coming from a perfectly repulsive character, and the song is making a pretty solid statement against religion-cum-hypocrisy-for-profit. Gary's never given me reason to call him a misogynist, and the line, as it works in the song, is downright *sweet.* Just for the record, my favorite Sisters song is probably "Ribbons" which has also been taken as a severely misogynistic number. I just saw it as a really remarkably vivid slice-of-life (heh) song, mese'f, whereas I've gotten quite livid over a number of big dumb heavy-metal and rap songs--I guess the big difference between both "Metal Beat" and "Ribbons" and the ones that outrage me is that the ones I like are portraying a character, not professing to portray a personal philosophy. zg Pestmaster: zigi@ravenland.com http://www.ravenland.com/index.htm/index.htm Updates dead in the water! The cover (of the cd-box) is as shown for month at a fanpage of FF, like a mutating car or alien ... (the additional songs Descent and Edgecrusher are normaly not my taste) bye, Markus from Nuremberg/Germany ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 23 Sep 1999 12:02:45 +0400 From: "The Tik Tok Man" Subject: Gaz & the Sex Thimble To: "Numan Digest" Noomunites, A Numan & Prince duet? I don't think so. There's a height problem. I saw the Sex Thimble himself at an MTV party (London circa 1994) and I can tell you that he's pretty Goddamn small, like about 4 foot 6 ... even when he wears platforms. Ever notice how his "girlfriends" are taller than him, even though they're usually petite? Can you imagine how ludicrous him and Gaz would look in a video together? Gaz just standing there all evil and ominous and Princey bouncing around like a Jack Russell on heat? I'm already laughing my ass off at the very thought of it. No, I reckon if Gaz was to duet with anybody it should be: Grace Jones Iva Davies (Icehouse - from Australia) Frank Tovey (a.k.a. Fad Gadget) Certainly NOT Ricky Martin or Celine Dion. But maybe Shania Twain, just to see her again ... TTTM Moscow over & out ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 23 Sep 1999 16:8:8 +0100 From: "Steve Webbon" Subject: Prince connection To: "numan list" Prince connection When Prince's album 1999 was first released in the UK it was a single record with a different cover, and strangely the cover shot was VERY reminiscent of (the earlier and successful) replicas sleeve, plus one of the other images was a close up of Prince's eye! Both artists happened to be distributed by Warner Bros., so draw your own conclusions!! ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 25 Sep 1999 08:28:42 +0100 From: vickers@netcomuk.co.uk Subject: The Usual Semi-Relevant Vickers Contribution To: Gary Numan Dear all, Last Sunday there was a large party in honour of my birthday, in the local Community Hall. (Remember, I live in Southam, which has been blessed first by a visit from the Great Man Himself, and and secondly by a mention in "Praying To The Aliens"). What I didn't know was that my family and friends had put together an exhibition of photos of me (this did not include the photo in Vox magazine), a "This Is Your Life" set of interviews from people from my past, and, most memorably, a dance in my honour. They had, of course, chosen Numan, and to the sound of (the original) "Cars", my wife, daughter, brother and best friend performed a dance routine on the stage. They were wearing (very) false beards, as a gentle fun-poke at me, and some of the moves were reminiscent of when my daughter "imitates" me dancing to Numan.... Told you it was only semi-relevant. However, 130 people were reminded that Gary Rules OK.
