During the David Letterman show last week, Dave had this skit about a kid taking his driving exam. While it was being taped live the band was playing "Cars" in the backround. It's amazing what one hears when the are half asleep :-) Waiting for the Nu stuff ! NO NEWS, JUST NASTY ANALYSING >Oh, and I'm NOT Christian, which I find interesting in this particular >context of "translating" lyrics. Not sure I understood this. If it's suggesting belief in God (and one wou= ld hope that people who pay homage to Him do believe in Him - unless they ar= e Blaise Pascal of course!) could be called belief in a "rumour", then I agree (and that no christian would wish to draw the comparison if they could help it :-)). But isn't it OBVIOUS that Gary meant to make the comparison. For "Blessed= are they who pay homage to rumour", simply read "God is a rumour". I near= ly said "God is JUST a rumour", but that would be equivalent to stating that= He doesn't exist. Whilst Gary and I agree that God certainly DOESN'T exis= t (why on earth should he?), Gary wasn't stating in this line that God is ONLY a rumour. Rather, he was saying that people are prepared to worship something on the BASIS of a rumour. In this context, and for the sake of argument, God MIGHT exist, but His worshippers have no evidence... only "rumour". To pre-empt any outraged christians, your response will either be: (1) I do have evidence of God's existence since I personally experience Him, or; 2) I don't need evidence to believe in God. I know, I know, I know. And it's for exactly those reasons that I believe= in flying pigs. Zzzip. So, Gary might contemplate doing some of his 80's stuff live again? I won= 't hold my breath. It would be far easier just to play the Exile backing tracks and do a couple of guitar romps through Tubeway Army material rath= er than seriously rework some of his back catalogue. To: "Gary Numan" Hi again to you wonderful Numan fans from around the world, I have been emailing radio stations from around the UK to play more of Garys stuff, but I get no reply so I believe that we should know all get together and every one emails them to play his stuff, eg his album Exile (Great album even my wife likes it and she hates numan sad bitch, she doesent know what shes missing) but I believe it would of done a lot better if we get more radio play, Dominion Day great single but where was it it in the Charts, The recent rerererelease of Cars was number 57 in the UK charts which I dont blame its been released god knows how many times, but I believe if people heard the fantastic Exile it would of done alot better in the Music charts, and we would get much more Numan shows instead of one off shows. So please everyone lets get together and hassle these Radio Stations and everyone else around the world you do the same. 'New Dreams For Old' (a lousy title for a hits compilation if I ever heard one) is going to have, what, looks like 5 b-sides on it? Instead of the "comprehensive singles collection" it should have been, that Rod was pushing for, that I've been touting all along, that would've gone over better in sales. Didn't Rod say he originally wanted 'Remodulate' to be just that, a comprehensive singles collection? But the studio heads said it had to have his older material, so he had to make it a double-disc set to include the live songs, which are the only format Cleo has them in? These corporate autocrats just don't get it. You know, we've been worried Eagle/Cleopatra would turn into another IRS fiasco, but I think it may be worse than that. The market's been glutted with material, with seemingly little thought or planning. No new liner notes for the reissues, no one listening to Rod to figure out what the best additional tracks to append would be. We've gotten three compilations-- 'Remodulate', 'Down In The Park' (or whatever that last double was called), and now 'New Dreams.' The way they're going, it's more like they're turning into another Receiver/Rialto. Strap in. What would the quality be like? This would be a great > way of preserving my old Numan footage before the VCR finally chews them to > pieces! I'm having a hard enough time restoring my LPs, but I had the same idea and decided to experiment. Spent 5 hours creating a 60 second VCD, which burned "without errors", but was unplayable. Furthermore, the software I used, VCD Creator, gives no indication of the remaining space on the VCD! I know it must be more than uncompressed 30 fps avi files, which would only yield about 5 minutes at 650 MB. I think the time is probably not quite ripe for digitizing our VHS. I find working with video on the computer very frustrating, with only a 500 Mhz processor, 128 MB RAM, 12 GB hard drive. When we can treat gigabytes like chump change, then video will be no problem. They already have hard drive VCRS, though they're totally retarded. No way to save. I predict a major breakthrough in digital video recording very soon. BTW, is there anything Numan on DVD? ------------------------------ End of Gary Numan Digest ****************************** _______________________________________________________________________ _____ ____ ____ _____ _____ / \ | | / \ / \ / \ / \ | |-----| |-----| | |-----| |-----| | | | G | | A | | | R | | Y | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |-----| |-----| | |-----| |-----| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | N | E | W | S |=====| | | | | | | | & | | | | | | | \_____/ I | N | F | O | | | | is produced and distributed by Derek Langsford dlangs@sunstroke.sdsu.edu -------------------------------------------------------------------------- To reply to the messages in this list, mail to: numan@cs.uwp.edu If you want to be removed, or someone wants to be added, you can mail to numan-request@cs.uwp.edu ----------------- The Gary Numan Digest is brought to you via Datta Production and Development, 905 97th Street, Kenosha, WI 53143 USA datta@cs.uwp.edu and computer resources courtesy of University of Wisconsin-Parkside and Datta Production and Development.
