Gary Numan Digest Thu, 11 Nov 99 Volume 1 : Issue 589 Today's Topics: G.A.Webb listening to the sirens Quiet thoughts Religions Spam still frightened by the telephone That will do nicely! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Date: Mon, 8 Nov 1999 15:39:54 +0000 From: "Steve Webbon" Subject: G.A.Webb To: "numan list" G.A.Webb Following the post regarding Gary's real name being used on the sample American Express card I checked the Amex site - sure enough, it's there. I'm impressed - there's someone at the ad agency with sly knowledge and a sense of humor!! - steve ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 10 Nov 1999 13:31:47 -0600 From: Valerie Iglar-Mobley Subject: listening to the sirens To: The Gary Digest Dear numanoids all, 'The Church of' sounds like a great record; thanks for putting it together, Jim. But, can I just ask for a moment, what ever happened to 'The Fan Project'? That sounded like a fantastic concept, but we haven't heard anything on it for ages. And does anyone know where I might get my ears around a copy of 'Ghost of The White Faced Clown'? Even a taped copy? I completely missed out on that one. This is hard for me to say, but (gulp), I almost miss Danny T! Some Random (tm) thoughts... > If you look closely, the name on the credit card in the commercial is "G.A. > Webb" We don't yet got the new Amex ad down here in NZ but good spotting Mr Caszatt! (Although it should be G.A.J. Webb - Don't these ad execs do their research?) > > This is a multi-part message in MIME format. > Is there anyway for the List software to filter this stuff out? Or some way of educating people not to use HTML as a posting format? > On a rather different note, has anyone else on the digest received this in > their e-mail... No, but I accidentally launched my browser and typed in the URL. Cheers! Some personal thoughts ... Got me the first four BB re-issues the other week, cheap too. NZ$21 each, approx GBP7 or US$ 11.50. No postage, no waiting for delivery, just walked into the store*, laid down the Credit Card and next I knew my wife was wrapping them up for Christmas, Bitch! (I had to use that word) Anyway, I convinced her that I'd been a good boy for the whole year since last October and she let me listen to them once. She doesn't realise that she's wrapped up Robbie Williams and Clannad. I now have the weirdest hair from wearing phones 12+ hours a day and she's getting worried about how much I'm listening to Robbie!. I really want/need (aren't they the same thing?) Dance. *Borders just opened a store here and it looks like they'll stock most US released titles. They had the Cleo releases too, but I already have either the originals or the Eagle versions. Must say, the re-issues are most impressive; sound quality and packaging are awesome. The extra tracks are, for once on a re-issue, entirely appropriate and at the same recording level as the rest of the tracks. Bloody miracle!. I now have CD copies of rarites like Random, Echo and Oceans, that I previously only had on vinyl (an Blue Vinyl EP titled "Numan / Tubeway Army 1978/1979 Volume Three. BEG124E. Offers?). My wife really likes the acoustic DITP, which is one of here favourite Numan songs anyway. Why, though, are the Tubeway Army/Roxy, Replicas and TPP discs decorated with the BB logo whilst Telekon has the crossed red lines? Were the corresponing Vinyl versions done this way? or does someone at Beggars like Telekon more than the others? I feel that so much more could have been done with the discs themselves, although am willing to accept it if BB were sticking to the feel of the original albums. Anyway, I can now almost retire the "Exhibition" doubles which annoy the hell out of me due to the cut tracks. One final question ... I can't find any mention of it, but is the Eagle version of Berskerker (in the Numa Years box set) the same as the original? It sounds as if some of the tracks are extended versions, but I have to get my turntable out of the attic in order to find out for sure. It could just be my memory playing up. On Numan and religion: I think Gary has it about right "Roswell may have been the second coming and we just shot the fucker down" Darren "Listening to the Sirens" H. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 07 Nov 1999 08:55:11 +0000 From: vickers@netcomuk.co.uk Subject: Religions To: Gary Numan It's no good, Naveed. Gary has set his heart against God at present, and fans suggesting otherwise doesn't do any good, it just stirs his wrong emotions. He is honest, he is kind to people, he tells the truth, he is open, he is non-racist, he hates vioelne, he respects his family.... The man has many good qualities, APART FROM BEING MUSICALLY BRILLIANT. But he does not have his heart open to God. Interesting that we have both a Muslim and a wiccan writing this week! There's always the Baha'i Faith, as I keep hinting to everyone! Yes, I received the same, AND my server automatically (somehow!!!!) trtied to then send the same message FROM ME to another address, which I think I have seen as a digest address. My wife works in software, and she thinks that she has half puzzled out how it was done.... I would rather be reading the Digest... Dear Matthew and numanoids all, I got the same message, with a different e-mail address as the "from." It's a spam that submits a phony "from" address, so that no-one can trace where it's coming from. I've even gotten an engry e-mail from someone demanding that I not send them such messages again, as if I were the one sending out this spam! I should think anyone who's seen my web site would know that's not my bag. Incidentally, I've recently expanded it, so it isn't quite as pathetic and puny! To: numan@cs.uwp.edu "Sean Caszatt" mentioned the Amex Blue Card advert in America, in the last digest (the one they are using Gary Numan's 'Cars' on): "If you look closely, the name on the credit card in the commercial is "G.A.Webb" Sean - not wanting to sound pedantic, but I believe that the correct initials are actually 'L.A.Webb'. Still very interesting though... as Gary used to live in L.A... ?? Maybe it's just coincidence... but as an Amex employee I think it's cool! ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ End of Gary Numan Digest ****************************** _______________________________________________________________________ _____ ____ ____ _____ _____ / \ | | / \ / \ / \ / \ | |-----| |-----| | |-----| |-----| | | | G | | A | | | R | | Y | | | | | | | | | | | | | | |-----| |-----| | |-----| |-----| | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | | N | E | W | S |=====| | | | | | | | & | | | | | | | \_____/ I | N | F | O | | | | is produced and distributed by Derek Langsford dlangs@sunstroke.sdsu.edu -------------------------------------------------------------------------- To reply to the messages in this list, mail to: numan@cs.uwp.edu If you want to be removed, or someone wants to be added, you can mail to numan-request@cs.uwp.edu ----------------- The Gary Numan Digest is brought to you via Datta Production and Development, 905 97th Street, Kenosha, WI 53143 USA datta@cs.uwp.edu and computer resources courtesy of University of Wisconsin-Parkside and Datta Production and Development.
