It could just >be my memory playing up. > I think it is, although the two tracks that were singles are longer on the album. An extended version of the album was released on cassette in 1984, and on CD in 1995. All but Pump It Up, The God Film and A Child With The Ghost were longer than the original album, with the 12" versions of the singles used. Does that make sense? :) Also I'm going to comment on the new reissue of Dance (a bit late but never mind!). It's excellent, I can hear sounds that I couldn't hear before. The new song Dance is great, but I have a feeling it sounded a bit like A Child With The Ghost. Maybe Gary reworked the track three years later although he probably can't remember it now! :-). Could've been on the album. I'm also glad the put Face to Face on there. It definitely fits in with the mood of the album, and it even sounds like a Telekon/Dance crossover. Unfortunately they had to get rid of Love Needs No Disguise to make way for it, yes I know it was remastered on Premier Hits but I'd have preferred to have god rid of Stormtrooper In Drag instead. Call be a nitpicker if you like :-) Cheers James A proud member of "still trying to decide whether to buy New Dreams For Old", and an even prouder member of "Only 2 days to go"! ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 11 Nov 1999 13:52:58 -0500 From: Matthew Roberts Subject: BB CD lables To: Gary Numan Darren, you asked about the Telekon CD. The original vinyl did indeed hav= e the Telekon stripes, so BB are being faithful to the original spirit of t= he releases. Some fans will recall that there was a special "Dance" label which also appears on the Dance CD reissue. The I,Assassin vinyl shared this label, but the "Dance" handwriting still appeared on it, which was a little unfortunate. I wonder if BB will airbrush this out for the CD re-release = of I, Assassin? God, you're right - the Digest has been dull lately! Leafed through the new Bowie biography in the shops the other day, and Ga= ry does get some fairly chunky quotes, including the famous Bowie/Numan stor= y (to Numan fans at least!). The author gives it considerable credence, and= Gary is more discriptive and thoughtful than normal (or should I say 'publicly'). The CD is coming along very nicely. I am working day and night on this (in between work, family, and having a life....) and I am very happy with the sounds that are coming out of it. I am also interested in heading off a fan project in the near future. I have been E-mailed by several people who would like to appear on the multiple-fan-tribute CD. I am all for this. I simply wanted to create a tribute CD of my own, and then as I was half-way through, people wanted to participate. If there is any Numan fan out there who would like to participate in such a project (I'm still working out the legal aspects) please E-mail me for my address and we'll get the ball rolling. I'm 24 years old, and I've been a Numan fan since about '93, and I think the first Numan cd I got was "Document Series Presents" (from Best Buy). It was about the only Numan music I could find around here (Greenville, SC) at the time. Since then, though, I've gotten mostly everything Gary's put out! At this point, about all I listen to is Numan, especially Exile (Extended Mixes) and Berserker. I saw him live in Atlanta, back in '97 (or '98, can't remember!) It was the greatest show, put on by any music act, that I'd ever seen! Blew me away! Just can't wait for new music from Gary... BTW, one of the reasons I love Gary's stuff so much, is because of the anti religious lyrics so prevalent in his songs. The moment I popped on Telekon and the words rang out, "And what if God's dead? We must have done something wrong," I was like "Yes! This is MY music!" I also like the fact that Gary leads a clean life, unlike Marilyn Manson (and others), whose music I like, but get kinda tired of their drugged up lifestyles. That's just a never-ending joke (believe me, I've been down that road). Well, thanks for putting up with my blathering, and I'm glad to have finally posted here... I'm sure it does spur Gary on to write more similar lyrics... I was just observing that for someone who describees themself as an aetheist, Gary sure has a lot to say about God! But then, each to his or her own. Now can someone tell me why.. when radio stations and tv progs fell overthemselves to "celebrate" Clif Richard and Status Quo had been in the business for 20+ years, but no-one is doing anything like the same for our Numes. Time, methinks, to start bombarding radio and tv shows with emails and the like.... until they listen and do something...!!! Best Wishes everyone Sarah xx ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 13 Nov 1999 10:24:48 -0800 From: theartdept@mediaone.net (rod reynolds) Subject: Review in Q Mag To: numan@cs.uwp.edu Hello. The new issue of Q Magazine reviews some of the recent Numan reissues: Gary Numan The Plan ** Dance *** Metal Rhythm ** Outland *** Down in the Park: An Alternative Anthology ** New Dreams for Old ** Christmas comes early for Numanoids. Gary Numan has never quite deserved the scorn routinely tipped his way by critics, but he's never quite *not* deserved it either. This hefty slew of reissues and compilations provides further fuel for both his defenders and his detractors. The Plan, a spindly, shouty "punk" album made purely to get a deal, was recorded in his teens but not released until 1984, three years after the brooding, Bowiesque Dance. The funk influenced Metal Rhythm, experimental Outland, and the live album The Skin Mechanic date from his busy but hit-free late 80's/early 90's, the double cd Down in the Park basically reshuffles tracks which previously appear on The Other Side of Gary Numan compilation. Finally, New Dreams for Old trawls his back catalog for novelties and oddities, and frankly, there has been no shortage of either.
