KING RICHARD HERE.... After a bit of a vacation from the digest, ok, I have had nothing to say.... until now.. I would like to direct this to those who want to censor the thoughts, discussions & ideas of those on the list. Simply because of a disbelief in GOD. Or any GOD for that matter. Now, that I have gotten your attention... 1. I believe in GOD 2. I do not expect everyone to belive as me. 3. It should not matter that GARY NUMAN doesn't believe in GOD 4. It should not matter that people on this list don't also... still with me? good.... Those of you who slam others on here for not believing in a supreme being are being a bit of a supreme being yourselves. If you want to to be in a christian digest, there are many out there... They are fighting between themselves over there also. This is to discuss about GARY NUMAN, but we can't do that. or his lyrics. Or anthing else. Get off your high horses & come back down to earth. A discussion digest is the discuss things & if someone wants to talk about a non-belief, let them... If you dont like it, scroll down, like how some of you did when when I said what this was about. Putting someone down for not being a believer, that is wrong. If you are a true believer, you should already know that. Anyone on this list should be able to talk about whatever they want. CENSORSHIP is not limited to ROCK MUSIC & TV... No need to had have it here. If you want a digest that doesn't talk about NUMAN beliefs, lyrics, way of life, albums or songs, I suggestion is to make your own digest on ONELIST. So, that doesnt sound like someone who claims to believe in GOD? Funny, I have been thinking the same thing reading your posts... Nope....although to get even more "oh god, I've eaten too many magic mushrooms"....he performed an updated version of the same song with "70s- singer-turned-nice-family-entertainer" Leo Sayer on his "Leo" show in 1984 - just before Berzerker came out. Song performed by both of them hamming it up as a couple of "street bums". Better than the 79 version, I reckon - a kind of "Warriors-period-heading-towards-Berzerker" sound. It's got all the tour dates Gary's played since 1979 as well as contact information for the International Fan Club (Alien magazine). You can "check it" out via either The Gary Numan Fan Server or The World Wide Webb sites. Is it up to > us the readers, or is it pre-determined by some higher being? I thought that had to be a joke, that it was obvious we subscribers decide for ourselves the subjects for what we post. Turns out I was wrong. Apparently the topics ARE determined by some "higher" beings (in their minds, anyway). Sadly for us, it seems the higher beings who decide for us all what the topics for the Digest will be are... the whingers. Right now the Digest is catering to the lowest common denominator. Instead of being stimulating and creative, it's stifling and restrictive, with discussions being dictated by anyone who can whine and complain the loudest. The best lack all conviction, while the worst are full of passionate intensity. Imagine a thought experiment with me for a moment. You're at a Numan convention, and you're trying to chat it up with someone. You're enjoying yourself well enough, when along comes some shrimpy guy wearing a bowtie and carrying a clipboard, who interrupts you with a nasal voice to say, "Ahem, ahem, ahem. I'm sorry but you have deviated from the set of discussion topics which have been approved by the self-apppointed managers of this convention. You shall have to correct yourselves." He then removes a sheet from his board listing what topics you can discuss, shoves it into your hand, and skitters off. Maybe you decide to give it another go, and you keep your conversation going. You're able to bring a relaxed air back to the two of you, when some guy with foul breath crashes into you, spilling his beer all over your copy of the 'Photograph' album, and bellows, "WOULD YOU TWO SHUT UP, PLEEEAAAASSSSEE!!! THIS IS SOOOO BORING!!!" and then collapses in a drunken heap. After you'd washed a bit, and gotten the smell off you, you give it one last try with this person. You're finally able to feel a little casual again, when some anti-social loner who had been standing in the corner all evening and staring at the floor, stamps her feet over to where you're standing and pouts, "Well, I've been standing here by myself all night eavesdropping on you two and you have never said anything I find even remotely interesting! I just can't stand it anymore; I'm leaving!" She then clomps out of the convention center, slamming the door behind herself. What would be your thoughts at this point? Would you be thinking, 'Well, I certainly have to clean up my act! Clearly what I've chosen to talk about are the wrong things entirely!' Or would you think to yourself, 'Who are these people to tell me what I can and can't talk about?' Or would your thoughts be more along the lines of: 'What the @#%&?! I mean, what the *%$#-ing %^&@ ??!!?' I say this. It's time for the doors to this forum to swing wide open. Any person should be able to post about any topic-- be it homoeroticism, atheism, or anything any numanoid finds interesting. If anyone else disagrees or finds it uninteresting, they're free to post about their own subjects, and Mr.s Datta and Langsford's "administrivia" be damned. Can I point out that Gary himself wouldn't be able to post his lyrics to this Digest if he had to follow the strictures we've let a noisy few dictate for the rest of us, because they contain the taboo subjects of homoeroticism and atheism. Gary himself has become a taboo subject of the Gary Digest. We've all come together as fans of the Man. With that criterion for admission met, let's communicate about anything we care to. We've each had to stand alone in our appreciation of his music, when everyone around us thought we were oddities for not listening to Britney Spears or the Backstreet Boys. We've been plenty alienated by non-numanoids, let's stop alienating each other. In the final analysis, are we here to serve the Digest, or is the Digest here to serve us? I have finished recording 10 songs, 6 of which are totally produced and ready to go. I will work on prduction and mixing tonight in the studio of the other 4 songs. 1 or 2 more songs are in the making, which would give the CD 12 songs total. The track listing is as follows (so far): Joe The Waiter, Down In The Park, Cars, Cars (Jazz Instrumental), A Question Of Faith, You Are In My Vision, Stories, Dominion Day, I Dream Of Wires and I Still Remember. I am currently working on Metal. I am not sure which will be the last song. If you have any suggestions, please E-Mail me. The CD should be done and ready for release sometime in February. I have also been working with a fellow by the name of Jason Gearin who has been shooting a great deal of footage in the studio, on the road, in cemetaries, etc. We have created a sort of "rockumentary" if you will. The video will also go into production soon, with music from the CD and a few songs that will not appear on the CD. I will have these both available in February. Gary himself is getting the first copy of each. God bless, enjoy the holidays and talk to you soon. Happy New Year and all that jazz..... or Numan, as you would prefer. Last night I was watching a "reveiw of the year" - youknow, one of those progs the schedulers put on when they're really stuck for decent programmes between Chrim and New Year. Well, eventually, it (the reveiw prog) got around to politics and highlighted John "Two Jags" Prescott's "transport" policies and guess what was playing in the background - CARS!! Of course, we'll never know if the programme makers used it simply as a, dare I say it, cliched cop-out tune to use, or because they recognised the delightful irony in using it. (Johnny Prescott wants us all to use public transport more and leave our cars at home, but he still prefers to use his two Jaguars!!) I don't really care for the politics of it all - it was just great to hear Numan on tv!! So then I dug out my video tape of "Hunting Venus" and had to watch that again... great TV film!! Lots of Numan in it.... I don't think Gary's a big Drifters fan although it's a bit of a standard= so he could have heard it anywhere. My guess is that he picked it up from Aladdin Sane. Bowie sings a couple = of lines of 'On Broadway' at the end of the title track, and Gary certainly owned the Aladdin Sane album. In fact, I would also guess that it was at least indirect inspiration for: "Sing a chorus of 'On Broadway' and deny it all" from You Are In My Visio= n. We're told the only proper studio version was the one Gary did with Leo Sayer (!) in 1984 for his TV show. It did actually appear on one of the Images albums, but of course, the sound quality was pretty ropey. So why did he do it in 1979? Well, if Bowie did it, Gary may have thought= it was pretty cool, since he was a big fan. There's other factors though.= Gary had a limited repertoire at the time, so maybe he thought he needed = a cover version to pad out the set. The choice of On Broadway may have been= a way of saying "Hey folks, this is just cabaret, not high art", or "There'= s more to me than sci-fi electronica". But then, that could all be complete bollocks. Whatever the case, I'm sur= e it wasn't ENTIRELY serious.
