I've been intrigued by the familiar word "Berzerk" and decided to pick it up. It turned out to be Norwegian "sinthpop/body" band. I was trying to find any more avidences of that group being a fan of Gary Numan but didn't succeed...no familiar sounds or lirics... Maybe any Norwegians out there could give us some info... I'm not exactly sure myself, but I just chose some albums that were very poppy, and that I wasn't embarrased to admit liking. :-) I suppose you could add the Sharpe and Numan material to my fluffy collection as it falls into the same category as albums I've already picked. Btw, Peter, you also mentioned extended Outland. Is this a rare extended, unedited version of the album (a la Berserker, Fury, Sacrifice, Exile)? Even hearing an extended version of Outland the song would be cool. Am I missing something rare? Making Nash the Slash my very first experience of live music ever. Which was a bit of a bugger. I liked him, but it made my ears bleed after about 20 minutes. Gary Numan was fandabedozie. Top 5 Non-Numan Artists: 1) The Cars (Saw them 5 times in concert - Had full backstage access 2 nights in '84) 2) Blur (Never seen them live) 3) The Cure (Seeing them for the 4th time in May - couldn't get a tic fo= r their club gig here last month) 4) Duran Duran (3 times live) 5) A Flock Of Seagulls (4 times live) Top 5 "Fluff" 1) Backstreet Boys 2) Cher 3) The Moffatts 4) Bananarama 5) NSYNC My first "real" concert was THE CARS and Nick Lowe at Boston Garden (R.I.= P) on March 15th, 1982. We had seats in, like the 40th row, but when we go= t there, the mixing board was where our seats were. We went to the office = and they gave us new seats in the 23rd row. The Boston Herald took our pictu= re, but when it ran in the paper the next day, only my sister and my best fri= end made the final pic. Paul Carrack from Squeeze played keyboards for Nick Lowe and sang "Tempted". The next day I bought scalped tickets for the s= how on the 17th. That night Elliot Easton smashed his guitar. I don't count this one, but in 1978, I went with my family to see Sha-Na-= Na at the Shubert Theatre in Boston. It actually was pretty fun. The first time I saw Numan was on Oct 26, 1997 at Shepherd's Bush Empire = in London. I didn't have a ticket so in the pub I asked around to if anyone had one for sale. Well I got a ticket alright - A BACKSTAGE PASS! I nea= rly had a heart attack meeting Gary and Gemma after the show. I had no idea what to say to him. He asked where I got the pass and I told him, from a guy outside. I asked if he was mad. He said no, but it shouldn't of happened. He had a good laugh when I told him I paid =A360 for it. The = was the best =A360 I've EVER spent! What a night that was. I agree with Matt. I have been a Numan fan since 1979 and didn't hear We Have a Technical until 1998 and that was the Damon Albarn cover. When I heard the original I was amazed why it was never included on Replicas - it is by far in my opinion the best song from those sessions. Even though it is quite basic by today's standards it typifies the Numan Sound to the full and the lyrics are some of Gary's Best. I cant wait for the day Numan plays it live. To: digest@garynumanfan.nu i guess why i like pleasure principle so much is...well, for many reasons. one of them is the use of bowed string instruments on all the tracks. i think there're strings on all the tracks. he continued this on to telekon. both of these albums are successful because extra time was put into the recording of the bowed string instruments. 'complex' and 'the aircrash bureau' sound like nothing else before or since. gary's voice works perfectly with violins and violas. he writes majestic and transcendental melodies that are melancholic by nature and deserve all the caressing they can get. the bowed instruments nourish like nothing else and work well their synthetic approximations. ------------------------------ End of Gary Numan Digest ****************************** ------------------------------------------------------------------- T H E G A R Y N U M A N D I G E S T is produced and distributed by Derek Langsford, Dave Datta, and Joey Lindstrom dlangs@sunstroke.sdsu.edu, datta@cs.uwp.edu, Joey@GaryNumanFan.NU ------------------------------------------------------------------- To reply to the messages in this list, email: digest@GaryNumanFan.NU If you want to be removed, or someone wants to be added, email: digest-request@GaryNumanFan.NU ------------------------------------------------------------------ The Gary Numan Digest is brought to you via Joey Lindstrom and the GaryNUmanFan server Joey@GaryNumanFan.NU All of the opinions in this digest belong to the respective authors and do not necessarily agree with those of the Digest Producers. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Produced and distributed by Derek Langsford dlangs@sunstroke.sdsu.edu -------------------------------------------------------------------------- To reply to the messages in this list, mail to: digest@garynumanfan.nu If you want to be removed, or someone wants to be added, you can mail to digest-request@garynumanfan.nu --------------------------------------------------------------------------
