Howard" Subject: cleopatra site To: digest@garynumanfan.nu i have to echo the frustrations mentioned concerning the new cleopatra site. it is indeed unwise to create a site so difficult to view for so many. the index page should offer options. one to view the new enhanced version listing program, monitor and system requirements; and another with good old basic HTML that can be understood by the last few versions of both Netscape and Exlorer. What are they thinking? Hey, Cleopatra! I'm graduating with my degree in Recording Industry Management from Middle Tennessee State University this May. My minors are in Marketing and Mass Communications. I'm helping out with Virgin Records doing internet marketing right now. I'm pretty good with HTML. Need help? I need a job! Someone's gotta follow me up on this! Not MY kind of music, but it was THEIRS. Later, I went with my wife to see WHAM! and Goerge Michael. The first concert I went to see FOR MYSELF was Gary Numan in Oxford in 1991, and the second about four days later in Leicester. In fact, I have never voluntarily gone to a concert of anybody else other than The Man Himself. Some people may think I blind myself to other artists, but who cares? I LOVE Numan's music. They had a song with a very interesting chorus that went something like "puh-puh-puh-puh-puh-puh-party" and then there was one called "She Talks In Stereo" which was kind of a hit in the Bay Area. Prior to Gary Myrick & The Figures, at the SF show at least, there was an "unplugged" acoustic guitar player who sang a song called "Taking Risks in Spring." Does anyone out there who attended shows during this tour know what happened to Gary Myrick, The Figures and the guy who takes risks in spring? luv, alec ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 2 Apr 2000 12:08:36 +0100 From: "Martin Rees" Subject: Ground floor Tickets Required! Here goes. Things that A Flock Of Seagulls have accomplished that Gary Numan hasn't: 1. Had more than one U.S. Top-40 hit.=20 2. Recorded a radio spot for a beer commercial (=91For All You Do, This Bud=92s For You=92). Early 80=92s, when Budweiser signed various popular groups to sing the jingle. 3. Headlined an MTV New Year=92s Eve Party (I believe it was 1983 they brought in). 4. Nominated for a Grammy Award (Best Rock Instrumental, =91DNA=92. I think it was =9182). 5. Won a Grammy Award (see #3). 6. Name mentioned in a major motion picture (twice, actually, once in The Wedding Singer and once in Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me. 7. Name mentioned in a network TV show (Friends). Note: The show =91Frasier=92 once mentioned a Dr. Gary Numan (or Newman, we don=92t know because he never actually appeared on the show), but they were referring to a fictitious character rather than the real Gary Numan. 8. Remembered as much for a hair-do as for their music. Things that Gary Numan has accomplished that A Flock Of Seagulls haven't: 1. Released more than five albums. 2. Had a song used in a TV commercial by an automobile company=20 3. Had that song broadcast worldwide in a commercial during a Super Bowl. 4. Performed a song on stage with Marilyn Manson (not that that's something to be really proud of). 5. (Will have) released an album during four different decades. 6. Had a =91tribute album=92 of his music released (an album of AFOS remixes was released last year, but I don=92t really count that as a tribute). So there it is. What did I forget? Mike T (no relation to Danny) >From the Top 10 Things Bill Clinton Would Say if He Were in Star Wars: 7. You are part of the rebel alliance, and a traitor... oh wait, that=92s me. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Talk to your friends online with Yahoo! This is a free daily paper, available in the midlands, and perhaps the rest of the UK for all I know. Anyway, they do a feature called The 60 Second Interview, and of course, today it was our man Gary. At the risk of boring people who saw the interview, I thought it might be useful to make a bit of it available on the digest. A lot of it is the usual stuff, but some of it was new to me. Hope some of you find it of interest. Q. What will make you dance? A. Hell freezing over. Not being able to dance doesn=92t help. When I=92m on stage I don=92t dance, I just go from one pose to another in as elegant a fashion as possible. Q. Favourite film of all time? A. Monty Python and the Holy Grail. I used to live in a house that was vaguely haunted and I would go to sleep with something on the television so I didn=92t hear noises. I must have seen that one about 500 times because I=92d always put it on. Q. How haunted was the house? A. The lights used to go on and off. I=92d go out leaving all the lights on, because it freaked me out, and come back at four in the morning to find the house in complete darkness. I would also hear a little girl calling my name. Q. What is always in your fridge? A. Clover, that imitation butter. I just live on bread. I eat almost a loaf a day. Q. Now you are happily married, where would you go for romance? A. We=92re quite different, my wife and I. I love the coast, Gemma would probably go straight to Kenya. I can=92t because I don=92t want the injections. I=92m scared of needles. We=92re doing this IVF treatment at the moment, trying to have a baby, I=92m scared stiff of the blood tests. As ever, Gary comes across as just about the most down to earth and human person you could come across. And yet everyone I know still views him as a heartless android. Odd really.
