To: digest@GaryNumanFan.NU Gary Perkins quoted Gary saying "We're doing this IVF treatment at the moment, trying to have a baby..." Woah! This is the first time I have heard that Gary and Gemma are trying to have a baby rather than just thinking about it. Being at the IVF (in vitro fertilization for those for those of you not familiar with the acronym) stage of trying implies that the regular method didn't work. Maybe it's another reason why Gary has had problems getting the new album ready IVF is no guarantee by any means. I wish them the best of luck. Having problems conceiving when you really want a child is no fun at all. It is a real roller coaster ride of emotion. It also costs beaucoup. No comparison. End of story. I could spend all day listing the GN winning points (eg 2 commercials for 2 products (not 1), 2 No1 singles, playing Wembley, 2 tribute albums (not 1), a 22 year uninterupted career, etc, etc etc). But most of those things are just trivial. I think you summed up AFOS perfectly yourself by admitting that they are more remembered for hair than their music. And I don't recall Manson, Beck, Bambaataa, Albarn, et all name-checking an AFOS influence. I rest my case. Not too bad. For those looking for another freebie, check out the song Borg Sex by Joe Satriani on Satriani.com. I would classify it as Heavy Techno Rock. Joe normally records guitar-driven rock instrumentals, so this is quite a departure for him. Call it Numan On Acid. Cool tune, and hey, its free. Give it a listen. And to Joey L., the rest of Joe's new CD is pretty good too. Another mp3 suggestion, a band called SilverScene. I've downloaded alot of their songs, and most are really good. They're sort of a mix between Blondie and The Cardigans. They may be a little on the fluff side, but just barely. The best songs are Intro To Magic, Simple, Wise Up and You Had Friends. Can t compare them at all to Numan, but if you like the occasional pop-rock, this group is damn good. Hey its free (again). Mike __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? I heard this once - in someone's car. The driver only had it on tape, and didn't realise it was an extended version. My assumption was that the standard cassette release was extended. Gary Myrick and the Figures were the opening act, and I liked them immediately. I followed their "career", which to my knowledge lasted a whole two albums: "Gary Myrick and the Figures", and Gary Myrick's solo "Stand for Love" - both of which I still have on vinyl. As far as I know, Gary Myrick is now making music as "Gary Myrick and Havana 3am" - which have turned out a couple of albums (I think - I don't have any). The song Alec refers to in the last Digest is "The Party" and is from the "Gary Myrick and the Figures" album mentioned above. A VERY cool song, I might add. On an unrelated topic - MY first (ever) concert was....OK get ready, 'cause you'll need a barf bag... NEIL SEDAKA! I think it was late 70's, and my parents took me. Scary thing was, I totally liked it. The first concert I went to on "my own" was The Police at the Cow Palace in San Francisco - followed by virtually every 80's New Wave band that came near San Francisco between 1980 and 1986. - David (livin' large down under...) ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 6 Apr 2000 10:46:27 +0000 From: Philip Lindsay Subject: Kipper To: digest@GaryNumanFan.NU >>Jeff Wayne's The War Of The Worlds (technically not a soundtrack, but >>excellent!) > >Of course many would be aware of the Numan connection here (apart from the >Alien thing) - Kipper was involved with some remixes on the end of the 1995 >CD re-release. Bunce If anyone's interested (I was, but only in passing), I spotted Kipper a couple of weeks ago playing keyboards in Sting's touring band at the NEC. I couldn't see really well (in fact over about 150 yards I'm not even sure Sting was actually on the stage - _somebody_ was holding a bass and singing, though), but I could see that he's forsaken those ridiculous cycling shorts and baseball cap that we had to put up with on the Machine and Soul tour. I guess you could say he's moved up in the world, but I'm definitely glad his Numan days are over. There's many parts of Numan's career you could label 'the good old days', but 1991-2 wasn't it! Dream Corrosion still makes me squirm, except for the 'Mission' intro, which is very cool. Looking forward to next Saturday, and hoping the new stuff sounds good (he says there should be 3 new songs). Phil. P.S. The Sting gig was stunning, by the way. So many amazing songs. P.P.S. has anyone heard the Armand Van Helden song with the Cars riff yet? It's meant to have been played on Pete Tong's show..... P.P.P.S. Just bought Dance on CD, and finally got to hear the song, Dance. It's like discovering a new jewel! I can't wait to see if there's any new songs or versions on the I, Assassin CD. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 06 Apr 2000 06:32:15 -0800 From: awa Subject: loaves and pythons To: digest@GaryNumanFan.NU thanks gary perkins for posting the 60 second interview from METRO. it was anything but boring! gary not talking about fame, the press, the crash?! how could it be boring? it gave me a laugh and it gave me a smirk, too. thanks for posting it. why does gary say he can't dance? i've never seen a numan show or video where he wasn't dancing--and gracefully at that. i just saw a doc about donna summer. she was the disco queen AND she didn't really dance that much. gary dances more than summer. so, gary lives on a loaf a day! i can't say i blame him. i would eat a loaf a day if i could get through it. bread's the greatest. one of the best products that agriculture has given us. damn, i want a round of toast right now. that's a lot of friggin' bread! a loaf per? i mean, i hope he doesn't become diabetic or something. that's a ton of insulin...er...glucose. i'm going to send him some MSM capsules...and maybe some leafy green vegetables. i guess they wouldn't survive the flight. i worry about his liver and kidneys. i'm worried enough about mine! i hope he drinks a gallon of water a day (filtered) to go with that loaf and all those porterhouse steaks, hamburgers, fries, fish and chips and coca cola. i never would've thought gary to be a python fan, especially after watching "grail" 500 times! what a wild story. i better get the numan autobiog. does it cover this? i guess the humor gave him some security while living in such a creepy house. that's a creepy movie, too. speaking of loaves, the same day i found out about gary numan, i found out about this band from england called renaldo and the loaf and their record "songs for swinging larvae." it was on ralph records, the residents' label. this was around '79 or '80 i think. see, when people would ask me what i was listening to it was always "gary numan and renaldo and the loaf." then it was "john foxx, gary numan, the residents, renaldo and the loaf, bill nelson." loafing, alec ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 06 Apr 2000 12:22:24 +0200 From: Tomas Eriksson Subject: more AFOS vs GN To: digest@GaryNumanFan.NU In reply to Mike T's post on the clash of the titans. Now you are happily married, where would you go for romance? A. We're quite different, my wife and I. I love the coast, Gemma would probably go straight to Kenya. I can't because I don't want the injections. I'm scared of needles. We're doing this IVF treatment at the moment, trying to have a baby, I'm scared stiff of the blood tests. I feel for Gary and his apprehension of needles, but I FEAR for Gemma. My wife and I did the same thing, and finally gave up. When she had chilled out for a while (these things can really mess with your head), BAM, we were preggo. And then, when our son was only around 9 months old, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. No family history, not a smoker -- Now you will never get a Dr. to admit it, but I see more and more of this happening... women getting blasted with hormones to make them ovulate or super-fertile or whatever. I don't know that Gemma is getting shots like Paula did, but I do know all the injections she had led us both to believe this later led to the cancer, or at the very least, they didn't help. So -- I put this forth to a fellow Numanoid who is wiser and smarter than I in the field of infertility treatment -- is there really any correlation? Paula is doing fine, but is probably going to have her other breast removed at the advice of our family Dr. I'm not looking to point any fingers or sue anyone, but... it would be nice to get the real poop on the situation for a change. I am also not looking for an answer on the Digest... please email me directly with any thoughts or opinions you may have. Finally, I for one will think good thoughts and send my best vibes to G&G in their quest -- it can be a long, heartbreaking road to travel, and cause a lot of stress between a couple. I hope we hear soon a new little Webb is on the way, and that his or her mum stays healthy as well. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 07 Apr 2000 14:42:20 +0100 From: VinceH Subject: Tiktokman is right,I'm wrong To: digest@garynumanfan.nu On 31 Mar, William Wilson wrote: > sorry!
