To: "Digest" I know we've had a flurry of "Favourites Lists" lately, but have we done B-sides ?? Now there's an area in which GN has often shined - there are some real classics out there. Personally, I'd go for: 1. Asylum 2. Survival 3. Photograph 4. D.I.T.P (Piano) 5. Noise Noise Tim. ________________________________________________________________________________ This message has been checked for all known viruses by the Star Screening System http://www.star.net.uk/stats.asp ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 11 Apr 2000 13:02:59 +0100 (BST) From: =?iso-8859-1?q?Linda=20Astrup?= Subject: Introduction of Numanoidpethead To: digest@garyNumanFan.NU I've just joined the GN Digest list, so I will introduce myself. G'day everyone! Yep, that's right, I currently reside in Australia. My name's Linda, born in Denmark, 21 years of age, musically and lingually inclined, quite short! My first musical passion was to be the Pet Shop Boys, whom I became a fan of when I was 17. (Latestarter, I know). Other favourite artists include: Ultravox (Predictable?), 2Unllimited, Culture Beat, Faithless, Sash!, ATB, Moby, Underworld, Robbie Williams, Blur, Frankie Goes To hollywood, Rod Stewart, Cliff Richard - a mixed bag. I first fot into Gary viaNeil tennant of the PSB - this is because he mentioned quite liking Are 'friends' Electric and Complex. So I thought I'd check these songs out if possible. I came across a cheap compilation CD with a live version of AFE back in March '99, and declared myself irrevocably a fan on 30. December'99. I love Gary's voice, lyrics, the atmosphere's created and the emotion invested in the songs. I am hoping to soon increase my GN stock by purchasing 10 albums as soon as possible - they are on order! Cannot wait!!! Greetings and best wishes to all out there, linda "I'm still frightened of the telephones" ____________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? They were a short-lived synth band in the early-mid 80s - French I think with a female singer. I'm keen to get whatever they released (vinyl, cassette, anything) - I remember a single they released called "Dirty", and they had maybe another single, I believe on Survival (the old Tik & Tok label) - they also made an appearance on The Tube. Does anyone have anything ??? I'm willing to trade, or pay a fair price. Please let me know if you have anything. Also - I picked up a cd single this weekend by a band called Komputer. This is on the Mute label (always a good sign, which is why I bought it). The song is called Terminus. Check them out if you can - I tell you, I've never heard anything SO like Kraftwerk - so close I would have said it WAS Kraftwerk had I not known different !! Very good indeed. Thats all - mail me about the Hard Corps if you have anything. Bye ________________________________________________________________________________ This message has been checked for all known viruses by the Star Screening System http://www.star.net.uk/stats.asp ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 12 Apr 2000 14:47:25 CDT From: "jared cook" Subject: numan covers To: digest@GaryNumanFan.nu Hello, again. I'm back to once again plead for Numan cover songs. In particular I'm looking for a copy of Ghost of a White Faced Clown. I don't even need an original copy, a dub would be fine. I'm getting desperate! Can anybody out there help me? A number of digests ago (sometime in February i think) someone was asking about if there could be a tribute album featuring just 'Cars'. Well, i've put together my own version to listen to in my car. Here's a list of all covers of Cars I own (not all that exist, just the ones i happen to have right now)in alphabetical order. 1. Coercion (Reinventing the '80s) - an instrumental version of the Spahn Ranch remix. I was pretty pissed after I bought it as you might guess. 2. Fear Factory (Obsolete) - You all know about this one. 3. Fe26 (A Worldly Story) - TRUE metal version of Cars. Pretty cool. 4. Integ2000 (Project: Regenesis) - Similar to FF, only lyrics are yelled out abruptly. 5. Judybats (Daylight single) - Somewhat annoying 'southern rock' version. 6. Luxt (Newer Wave) - Decent, with female vocals. 7. Portable (Portable EP) - Really cool 'alternative' version. 8. Shampoo (Girl Power single) - Fair version. 9. SkitZo (Got Sick [hidden track]) - Weird metal version, lyrics have been changed into a horror song. Ex: here in my car, i'm killing you . . . etc. 10. Terre Thaemlitz (Replicas Rubato) - Sweet piano version. 11. Tia (Cars single) - Pop mutated slop with Sir Mix-a-Lot. Hope everyone enjoys my little list. jared ______________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 13 Apr 2000 01:12:31 +0100 From: "Antonio" Subject: Queen Adreena To: , "Gary Numan" , This review is for all the whingers who complain about Gary Numan gigs :> So, tonight I saw Queen Adreena, live in concert, man. They are, to all intents and purpoes, a new band, with their debut album (Taxidermy) only just released. They have, however, about eight years ago, in fact, been a band before - with a UK top 20 hit single - under the name Daisy Chainsaw. Let me review this gig. The first support act - a threesome of girlies named Earl, were sort of folk-goth-pop and good enough for me to chat to the bass player and purchase a demo CD from. They were on for half an hour. The second support band - We Wish We Were Oasis, I think they were called (or was it Bull Goose Loony? One of the two...) were shit. I can't say much more about them - scruffy, ugly fuckers without a tune between the five of them. I predict they will be massive, because this is exactly what I said about the Stone Roses when they started out :} Queen Adreena came onstage at about 11.20, and were intense, brilliant and gorgeous. Katie Jane Garside sang her teeny little heart out, and sprawled around the stage like a goth fairy. They were brilliant. I urge you all to immediately buy Taxidermy. They played for 40 minutes (only the one album out, see? Unless you count 1992's eleventeen, Daisy Chainsaws only album) and were gone - no encores, no comebacks, not even a courtesy snog for *any* of the fifty strong crowd from the lovely Katie nor the lovely Crispin who so solidly played the geetar. So, this was brilliant. But it did bring to mind all the negative comments I have read about Gary Numan's recent gigs. So Gary only plays 90 minutes and in those 90 minutes he tends to play a similar set to the one he played 3 months prior to an audience 200 miles away... the point is this - if you get to see a Numan gig, do not complain. He could legitimately just play Exile and there would be nothing you could say or do which would change that, nor would it detract from the performance. So, when at the London gig - just enjoy what he does. I want to read reviews of this which are positive, beause I know it will be something very special. If I want to read bad reviews, I shall, as ever, buy the NME. Point being, if I can thoroughly enjoy a 40 minute gig by a band who I have seen already and who played not one track I knew as I have yet to buy their album, then you can damn well enjoy Gary Numan in London :> Anti -- I am a poseur and I don't care, I like to make people stare!
