To: digest@garynumanfan.nu I was really bored last night so I decided to check up on Beggar's Banquet's site if they were to post anything on the remaining two unreleased CD Numan albums.. well it says on the top right of the GARY NUMAN section =============== UPDATE - The CD's of I,ASSASSIN and WARRIORS will maybe be ready end of 2000 / early 2001 =============== ... wow! ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 24 May 2000 18:37:51 +0100 From: Dryad Subject: koochy To: digest@garynumanfan.nu (Gary Numan) Yeah, Koochy is a really, really, really, really, really, really terrible song. That is not, however, going to prevent me from buying a copy of it. The video is appalling, although the performance on Top of the Pops was pretty cool, with 4 Gary Numan's in Pleasure Principle (I think) suits danced around this hunky blue robotically dancing dude. Having had no fresh replies to my top 5 band survey recently, I was going to tot up the rsults. However, trying to do it by hand (looking through each digest) has proved beyond me as due to the highly varied tastes of digesters and the healthy level of feedback, there were about 100 bands apparently getting one vote each(after counting through about 4 digests!!!). If anyone who is more techniaclly minded than me wants to add them up (or has any suggestions about how I could do so), I would very much appreciate it. If anyone wants to mail me to say they want to do it, I'll send them 3 responses that were sent to me and not the digest. Many thanks, James ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 23 May 2000 21:41:57 +1200 From: "D & J Hall" Subject: When is news not news? To: "Numan Digest" Two things: 1) A local TV program "Ice As" (often written as nIce Arse) blew me away this week. On return from an ad break, the in-studio band played the opening to "Are Friends Electric" doing the song major justice in a (to quote a certain Mr N) "rather chunky" guitar style. I still haven't closed my mouth since my jaw hit the flaw... 2) From NuWorld News May 15: "...little else is going on in my life, apart from one thing that I can't really talk about yet... " Erm ... What can't a bloke talk about "yet"? until maybe about 12 weeks?? I'm currently trying to imagine the aforementioned intro, slightly modified, to the sounds of "pitter patter ..." It's just a thought... Darren H. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 24 May 2000 10:08:43 CDT From: "jared cook" Subject: yes, even more on numan covers! To: digest@GaryNumanFan.nu Hey everybody, it's jared and i'm back with more crap on gary numan cover songs. First i'd like to thank those of you who have helped me expand my cover collection. You know who you are! I thought i'd take the time now to list the my most recent acquisitions (one as recent as 2 hours ago!) 1. Eric Burke - Are 'Friends' Electric? : This is a pretty good instrumental that i got as an mp3 a few days ago. It starts out in piano, sounding like An Pierle's, and then shifts into other instruments. I don't know where this song comes from, and for all i know this Eric Burke guy is a member of the Digest! If so, good job guy. 2. Car81Mob - I Dream of Wires : I got this one this morning. It sounds like it was done live. All in all it's an okay version, with some heaviness to help it along. 3. Gerty - You Are in My Vision (Carload of Scenic Effects) : A fair version of YaiMV. Not too special though. 4. The Girl Pool - Cars : I rather like this version, that has a different approach to the vocals than i usually find. It's too bad that it sticks it out so faithfully though; whenever a Cars cover has two minutes of music tacked on after the final verse i have to skip to the next track. I like Cars covers to add a little something after the traditional end point of the vocals. 5. Smashing Pumpkins - Cars : This is a live version, and all things considered isn't that bad. That's not to say that it's any good either. But it is fun to hear Cars sung by Billy Corgan (even if he does screw up the last verse). 6. Soulstorm - I Die: You Die (Under the Killing Sun) : I was kinda disappointed with this cover of one of my favorite songs (i even ranked it number one for Ben's list!). It clocks in at 1:56, way too short in my opinion, and music and vocals are quite 'punky'. It's not that it's awful, in fact it has it's good points, but i still feel that it should have been better. 7. Sticky - Down in the Park (Feeling Zero) : A good version of DitP, what makes this one stand out is the drum effects. Makes it sound like a Natalie Imbruglia pop garbage song. It works for me though. Curiously enough, both Sticky and Soulstorm are on the same small record label (Sweet Tooth, from Canada). 8. Victims of Luxury - Cars (VOL) : Standard 'rock' version of Cars. Nothing special. Well, that does it for now. I still have my covers list available to anyone who still might want a copy (the updated version is at about 152, though that could increase in the next few days), and i'm up for trading songs. can't wait for new songs on the unreplicated website :) jared ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 21 May 2000 23:28:19 -0700 From: Mark Subject: You wont believe this! To: Gary Numan Well folks. You will not believe where I found someone that listens to Numan music. As a hobby, I build scale model vehicles. On a maillist that I belong to for this, someone asked what everyone else listened to while they worked. I have to say I was surprised that several people liked more than one type of music, and when I mentiond Numan, someone sent me a note asking if I had caught hi with Fear Factory. After a couple Emails, turns out this guy even has Exile! Pretty cool indeed. In fact, one other person besides me and this other guy named Numan! pretty nifty indeed sir!
