Gary Numan Digest Thu, 22 Jun 2000 Volume 2 : Issue 49 Today's Topics: A little mention Church Of Gary Numan Updates fav lyrics NUMAN- A -NAZI? Phone tunes ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Jun 2000 12:31:00 +0100 (BST) From: =?iso-8859-1?q?Linda=20Astrup?= Subject: A little mention To: digest@GaryNumanFan.NU In light of the recent stupidity of either Heat magazine or Jo Whiley (can anyone tell me who exactly is to blame for that utterly disgusting lie?) , I tought I'd post something a bit more uplifting for us long-suffering GN fans. I just read a review of the Pet Shop Boys gig in Tokyo - and this is what the NME said : "And here, for the first time in 9 years, an elated mass of Japanese Petheads are being given the chance to shake their normally inhibited arses to the most credible surviving act, bar Gary Numan, of the 80s synth pop wave." Fancy the NME rating Gary Numan above even the PSB! Have a good one, Linda Downunder. PS Recently got my hands on a copy of Dance and The Pleasure Principle! I'm sure if Dance had been recorded nowadays (and if it were anyone else) it would have been hailed a masterpiece. And I find Airlane to be surprisingly boppy! So far I'm thouroughly enjoying Numanfandom! ____________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? For what it's worth, I believe this is about the highest service the digest can provide. It's hard to describe the thrill I get from reading that other fans enjoy some of the same lyrics that have inspired and moved me through the years. Having never met anyone who was a Numan fan, the internet--and specifically the digest--can provide a wonderful service. Thanks. -Mark I kept it to 25, but I couldn't follow the "no more than 2 lines" rule. Sorry. These are roughly in chronological order, but not in any way a ranking of quality: ----------------------------------------- Me, I've retired to a back street flat Picture `eyes in a cold steel frame' Faces at random I quote people I knew I'd love to be like me If I could feel like you So I turned on the crowd And I screamed "you and you" "It could have been you" Down in the park with a friend called `Five' The driver wants to touch me He mentions all the old cop bullshit I try to back away But he's so strong I just can't move Maybe I don't want to anyway I was standing outside your door Waiting for the grey men to go When my mind turned on me With a vengeance I had never known My own Staring at the ceiling White she gyrates all around me I am trying to forget she's done this all before All that we know Is hate and machinery We're engineers We rename vehicles You rename heroes I switch to auto We drove to work by proxy I plugged my wife in, just for show This wreckage I call me Would like to frame your voice We are close, we are hurt So that was love And love she kills me Send in you Stick-on pretty Aircraft nose Nothing much to care about Matthew's mother. The change disturbs me You've everybody's friend. Age, I suppose Don't you? How you smile and pretend it's fun Do you laugh when the rats come round to play? You're hung up on time You're hung up on age Now there's me I just arrived Something to fix This new depression I like romantics But I don't like Steven I don't suppose you ever laughed at me Your fascination leaves me cold We don't like it We're from the factory and we've come to play. Let the boys out. Been liberating river towns And we picked up the sex skin crawl. I'm the man I'm the atrocity film star And I've got the need. You're so young Not one backbone between you I was a puppet pulling my own strings. I can't believe that I did such things. I >didn't really take in te incident as it happened, but >watching it later I >thought, 'What *was* he saying?'" I got to see this Jo Wiley show thanks to my DSL line, and the Replicants website. I remeber the comment of which Jo speaks, but I didn't really think it was racist. Maybe a tad ignorant, since the video they showed was the same type of faceless R & B band they play over here in American, some happen to be white a lot happend to be black, but all sound the same. Given Gary's limited education I blew it off as him being misinformed. I have to put up with truly racist people everyday. His comment meant nothing to me, but then I happen to be white. Did his comment bother anyone else on the digest? Here in the U.S. being branded a racist can follow you around forever, I'm sure it's probably the same way in Britain. Gary still gets very little publicity over here I would hate to see articles about him ending in "Oh by the way, he's racist". Thanks Chris "Move upside, let the man go through."
