Gary Numan Digest Thu, 6 Jul 2000 Volume 2 : Issue 53 Today's Topics: A Few Somewhat Irrelevant Things An Alien Cure - updates - web site listings New goth / 80s night in London, run by, and DJed by Numanoids Random thoughts/garbage on numan covers ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Date: Wed, 5 Jul 2000 14:31:00 -0700 (PDT) From: Michael Tressler Subject: A Few Somewhat Irrelevant Things To: digest@garynumanfan.nu Hope every American Numan Fan had a great Independence Day. Thanks to the person who posted the Peavy Magazine article on Gary. I'm hoping to order the back-issue, since it included another one of my heroes, Eddie Van Halen, on the cover. I noticed in the Numan article that the band uses 5150 amps and Wolfgang guitars (both EVH signatures). Imagine that... a Numan/Van Halen connection! A few weeks back I mentioned that for several years I disliked the song Boys Like Me but eventually grew to like it. I was mistaken, Night Talk was the tune (an understandable gaff, considering the lyrics). Boys Like Me was always one of my favorite tracks from Dance. Howard" Subject: An Alien Cure - updates - web site listings To: digest@GaryNumanFan.NU After long months of neglect, I am finally starting the slow, tedious process of giving An Alien Cure (my numan web site) a facelift. I have created a new logo/banner, and I just finished updating my list of links to other Gary Numan web sites/pages. If you have such a site, I encourage you to visit An Alien Cure to check my list (address at the end of this post). If you are not listed, or if you detect errors in the listing, please contact me with all relevant information so I can make the list as accurate and complete as possible. My e-mail is: littleprince33@hotmail.com I noticed while updating the links an absence of sites on AOL. There were only one or two as I recall. Hmm...what does that say of Numan fans? Do Numan fans generally hate AOL? :-) I have noticed the digest getting a bit thin. I count myself among those to blame, as I haven't been contributing for months myself. I suppose a lot of us are running out of things to write in about until the release of Gary's new album, or another tour. I look forward to those coming events, and the subsequent revitalization of the digest. Cheers to Rob for his ongoing dilligence in maintaining AFE (www.afenet.com) with lots of new updates, interesting information, and fun surveys/quizes! If you haven't visited his site yet, GO! Until next time... -jerry v An Alien Cure www.geocities.com/jerry9393/numan.html ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 3 Jul 2000 00:02:30 +0100 From: "A MCHAFFIE" Subject: New goth / 80s night in London, run by, and DJed by Numanoids To: "Gary Numan" Numan fans club together !!!!!! First i'd like to say that everyone should go buy the Church of Gary Numan cd. I think it's essential for numan fans (especially covers loving freaks like me). The most striking thing about it is how clear the recording is. It's amazingly crisp (in fact, it seems to be of better sound quality than exile). Jim Collins' version of I Dream of Wires would have to be my favorite, and the Cars jazz mix comes close, though i have to admit i wouldn't recognize it as Cars without it being labeled as such. Everyone out there should also check out the Reload 'Tubeway Navy' cd too at www.reload-music.com, as that one is worth having too. Also, i hope everyone is looking forward to Nine Inch Nails forthcoming version of Metal. For those who haven't checked out AFENET, you can find the original story at www.nineinchnails.net/news, where apparently Metal will finally be released on the upcoming remix EP. And as a bonus, i've dug up this reznor quote from a tower records interview from November '99 (you can probably still find it at smashedupsanity.com): "Another part of it was the bleakness of the Cure, the coldness of Depeche Mode . . . or like Telekon by Gary Numan. I still listen to that record, I mean, it's fucking great. Because it's just cold-sounding. I still remember as a kid when I discovered Pleasure Principle. Sometimes it was just comical. I didn't take it seriously, but it scared me at one point. It painted an emotional place that wasn't pleasant to be at. It seemed creepy, science fiction in an unpleasant way." - Trent Reznor And hey, if there's anyone out there that's recorded their own cover versions of Numan songs, i'd love to get a copy of them. Since Unreplicated is down for at least another month, and since many of the Fan Projekt bands didn't move their stuff over to Unreplicated anyway or even have full mp3 versions available on the Fan Projekt site in the first place, i thought i'd try to reach out to people directly. Now i'm not asking for anything like submissions, as i'm not putting anything together for mass consumption (well, besides that GoaWFC thing i already put together. BTW, just so everyone knows, i'll still be making them as long as i have inserts left, which is to say about 15 not including ones i'm reserving for people who have already mailed payments or such). But i am just a numan fan who would like to have a copy of every numan cover i can find. So if you have done any covers, maybe you could write me and i could trade you something for a copy. I hope to hear from some of you. Who knows, maybe one day i actually will put something together, but should that day ever come it will be far off. Well that should be about it. One last thing: can anyone tell me how many people are on this here digest? I actually figured there could only be maybe 75 or 100 or so, though i suspect i could be way off. jared ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com ------------------------------ End of Gary Numan Digest ****************************** ------------------------------------------------------------------- T H E G A R Y N U M A N D I G E S T is produced and distributed by Derek Langsford, Dave Datta, and Joey Lindstrom dlangs@sunstroke.sdsu.edu, datta@cs.uwp.edu, Joey@GaryNumanFan.NU ------------------------------------------------------------------- To reply to the messages in this list, email: digest@GaryNumanFan.NU If you want to be removed, or someone wants to be added, email: digest-request@GaryNumanFan.NU ------------------------------------------------------------------ The Gary Numan Digest is brought to you via Joey Lindstrom and the GaryNUmanFan server Joey@GaryNumanFan.NU All of the opinions in this digest belong to the respective authors and do not necessarily agree with those of the Digest Producers. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Produced and distributed by Derek Langsford dlangs@sunstroke.sdsu.edu -------------------------------------------------------------------------- To reply to the messages in this list, mail to: digest@garynumanfan.nu If you want to be removed, or someone wants to be added, you can mail to digest-request@garynumanfan.nu --------------------------------------------------------------------------
