Anyway, I think that if the Webbs should become parents it would affect Gary's music in two ways. First, kids take time and my guess is that Gary would want to spend lots of time with his child and not as much writing/recording/touring. Second, kids make you happy and spread joy. I am a usually crabby/grumpy 30-nothing without any children, but when I met my little nephew for the first time I was touched by his joy/love/happiness and this made me happy. So perhaps a baby would change Gary's writing style towards different feelings. Let's hope that he doesn't put out a Kenny Loggins style "Pooh Corner" CD. It may be interesting to hear a Gary Numan children's CD, a possible title, "My First Songs with Synthesizers"? t3rry once again a crabby/grumpy 30-nothing ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 16 Jul 2000 14:50:42 -0500 From: "Troy L. Any (dis)agreements? BTW, Numan's new stuff is ANGRY. Like he said he'd do. So there you go, Tim Houtby, I hope you can stomach his newie! Kicks butt. It mystifies why it was left off 'Metal Rhythm.' Certainly it was the best song from that album's sessions. Perhaps Gary thought those ringing keyboards were too disparate in sound from the rest of the album. Perhaps he thought it would too brightly outshine the other songs. Whichever, with the reissue it now stands alongside the rest of the album where it belongs, but we're still left wondering about the decision. Gary is the artist. Oh, I so know how you feel. Moving to the UK from the States has been an education, and not only because I can't get things like Oreo's, Graham Crackers, Saltines, and Hershey's Chocolate Syrup. I mean, what the heck is the big deal over Ronan Keating? My husband doesn't understand why the US doesn't have rave culture like in Britain (or maybe it's just England, Scotland isn't exactly overwhelmed with reports of When Raves Go Bad!), and no matter how much I explain that we have more of interest to listen to than dance and europop, he just doesn't get it. I just can't believe that bands like the Vengaboys or LA7 (based on a tv show for the gods sake), nevermind the Spice twats, get so much publicity. I dunno, maybe there more thirteen year olds over here. As for Basement Jaxx, well, I do like their stuff, and indeed consider them to be musically apt. They do what they do extremely well, and I can't imagine they're not competent musicians. And yes $15. USD (10 in British currency) is the asking price. If anyone has ordered the CD and received it, let me know. You could send me the MP3 file if possible, or I'll just buy that dang thing if I know I'll receive the merchandise. I'm not interested in making money from it. I want to hear it and share it with the best fans in the world, Numan fans! And not charge them a dime! It's about time we got a taste of something new! Check out my site NumaNet! http://members.xoom.com/numaniac/ . Things are a bit slow over there now, but I'm working hard to liven things up. Stop by and use the bulletin board! It could be good for some great laughs! Please send me suggestions on when would be the best times to hold world-wide Numan chat in the NumaNet Chat Room. Hey, ALL the chat doesn't *have* to be about Numan! I noticed the latest version of Outlook Express has an option where you can check a "Send plain text only" box to individual people/ digests in it's address book! Check it and it will send plain text (hopefully no MIME...) I'll find out soon enough when the next digest comes out. If this option didn't work, let me apologize for the explosion of MIME garbage you must be scrolling through. But if it worked, here's how I did it: I right clicked on "Numan Digest" (how I have it listed in my address book) and scrolled down to "Properties" and left clicked. I then clicked on the "Name" tab and placed a check in the box at the bottom labeled "Send Email Using Plain Text Only". I hope that means there will be no MIME garbage in this post or any other, ever again! If it works as I hope, I won't have to switch it on and off again. It's about time Microsoft caught up with Netscape on that one! Cheers! Neither option you chose gives Gary any income. You can certainly choose not to give someone $15 for a CDR copy, but don't claim you're doing it because you know Gary deserves a cut. Asking one of us to put both tracks on the net "for all of us to enjoy" nets Gary the exact same amount as paying $15 for a copy. You didn't want to send someone money for a copy of a promo CD. That's fine, but your motivation is to avoid paying the guy with the burner $15. You can claim your reasoning is because of Gary, but then immediately asking for MP3 files, which also nets Gary nothing, invalidates your feel-good reasoning. --- JAD... ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 16 Jul 2000 09:49:01 -0400 From: Terry Burke Subject: Pure previews To: digest@GaryNumanFan.NU --------------21929D98244A7ED12F3178A9 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit I agree 100% that no one other than Gary Numan should be making any money from his music. Vote with your wallet/purse and send this person a message by saying "no" by not buying their CD-R. I would love to have NuWorld add previews of "Pure" to their web page, as they did with "Exile" so the fans can hear samples of the album as it nears completion. This method is both risk free for Gary ,as far as people not being able to down-load complete songs to sell as CD-Rs, and builds excitment with the fans as they wait for the official release. These auction DO police their listing much more than they did in the beginning, and most do not want to be held responsible for bootlegged copies of this nature getting out. This is not the same thing as a live show from many years back.  This is the mans NEW work, that has yet to even be released.   I do believe that if it got around as a bunch of MP3s, there would be some people that would never buy his CD when it comes out.  I would hate for that to happen.  I, as a fan, would buy the promo, AND  the new release, but not everyone is that way.  I am glad it was pulled from the auction. The fan from Germany, does not appear to be wanting any profit, just his cost to make and ship it out. as a fan I understand that very well, and do not consider him in the same category.
