Well, dear Numanoids, You can add The Tea Party to that list! They're Canadian, and five weeks ago I decided it was time to check them out. I consequently bought four of their cds within three weeks and those are *still* playing on my hifi!!!! I recommend them to anyone who would like music of Numan's standard and with similar emotive lyrics and un-erring melodies without the instrumentation being at all similar! My vote is this: Tubeway Army and Exile If it had been for the most influential albums, I would say: Replicas (Down In The Park anyone?) and Pure. Yes Pure. It'll grab people and should do a good job of influencing anyone who hears it. BUT: I had a small idea (and not ashamed either!). I was thinking of Listen to My Voice as the first single. I can't help but think that Eagle have chickened out and gone for what others describe as the most commercial track on Pure - read: weak. But commercial isn't always what will sell. We're not targeting the Bratney Tears and Silly Whiper (Britney Spears and Billy Piper) crowd, now are we? It has to be, particularly in Numan's case, a *standout* single. Y'know, the only track on Pure that doesn't feel entirely representative of Pure is Listen To My Voice. It definitely sounds more like Sacrifice than the overall Pure sound. I would have liked it if Pure itself was released as a single but it's obvious that some, particularly the conservatives, cannot agreee with the theme. Indeed, it could be all the derivative critics need, to accuse Numan of promoting rape - well, they tried to hang Nazism on him back in the early days, why not this? Anyway, Rip would do nicely, only the derivative critics would find it all too easy to point out that Numan 'now sounds like Marilyn Manson' and 'has to imitate his fans to get anywhere'. And critically, we're back to square one. So: As we know that Listen To My Voice is going to be the first single, why don't we do a little poll to see what we each think, with whichever reasoning we'd like to add, would make the best *follow-up* single?? My vote is cast for: I Can't Breathe What's yours? Cheers & thanks, Linda Downunder PS: Wallking Wlith Shadows would be good for a third single! ===== http://www.outland.purvision.com ____________________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Walters" Subject: Mallory To: The Gary Numan Digest There is a factory in my hometown in Indiana that used to produce Mallory Batteries - in fact, I will be employed by said company as of 2 January, 2001. The plant is currently used to manufacture timers for appliances as well as automotive switches of various types. I have done work for this company for a number of years, and they finally came up with an offer I can live with. I plan to research the company products and the company history, as it has always intrigued me - "Mallory Heart" - since many people I knew worked there at that time. If there is, in fact, no "heart" - I plan to devise something from Mallory "parts" that may work as a "heart" in some way. I can base it on the timer (used for washing machines, dish washers, lighting, that sort of thing) and come up with some device that could be called a "Mallory Heart." I work in METAL... as a machinist/toolmaker/Mold Maker, and have done so for the past ten years. Perhaps I can assemble this "Mallory Heart" and get it to Gary... I'm sure he's holding his breathe in anticipation... ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 10 Dec 2000 15:44:45 -0400 From: Hopey Subject: Numan's band Monitor Mag interview up for grabs To: Numan Digest I wish to give my Peavey Monitor magazine to anyone who can offer me a few bucks for postage - a 2 page article on Numan's Exile tour band (Richard Beasley and Steve Harris) - a good read from a musician's point of view anyway. Otherwise in the circular file it goes... Someone had talked about Numan tattoos a few digests back - I got one of the Tubeway Army logo mixed with the Exile logo and I am happy with it - it's on my left shoulder. Gary even saw it and approved. I know of a few other fans with the Tubeway logo - my dream tat is to have the cover of Replicas on my leg (my back is already taken). For the new tour I'll have to add something to it - maybe the word "PURE" (ha, that would be a larff!) since there is no blazing graphical icon on the LP. Any ideas? hopey1970@home.com ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 11 Dec 2000 08:34:22 +0000 (GMT) From: =?iso-8859-1?q?NumPet?= Subject: Underground Cred!!!!! As you said, Andy Gray is a big name in underground dance - the credible kind with a massive following, including myself. The best part which has me in a kind of dual heaven, is that Andy Gray is an associate of Paul Oakenfold via the Perfecto label. Now for those uninitiated, Paul Oakenfold is the highest paid dj IN THE WORLD and has a following as solid and devoted as Numan and much larger too. Anything with Oakie's name associated with it is a sure winner, simply because of his following and to have Numan associated, if indirectly, with Paul Oakenfold will give Numan an added credibility not to be scoffed at! The godfather of techno meets its current pope!!!! Long live music!!!!!!!!!
