Jeff Tolva (The Machman) ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 17 Feb 2001 08:44:43 +0100 From: "Hansi Slanec" Subject: Numan supports PETA HI fellow Numanoids this is what I (Hansi, the Austrian) got in reply to my Aircrash Bureau homepage (I am not sure if you all got this mail, but anyway): Hi I am not very good at all this internet business, and I don't know how to get in touch with all the Numan fans out there, so was hoping you might be able to help. Basically, Gary has supported an animal rights organisation's new anti-vivisection campaign by decorating a blank Valentine Card with a photo of his dogs Puddle and Bear Cub, which was sent to the British Heart Foundation on Valentine's Day (well, a copy was sent actually), urging them to "have a heart for animals" and stop using dogs, cats and other animals in their research. He's written a personal message to the British Heart Foundation and signed it too. Gary has really been supporting anti-vivisection charities and campaigns lately, and this was such a great way to help. This campaign is being run by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). The Daily Express mentioned his card the day before Valentine's Day (Feb 13th) and now his original card, plus those of various other celebrities including Annie Lennox, Saffron from Republica etc are all being auctioned on www.allstarcharity.com (look for the "PETA hearts") For more info on the anti-vivisection campaign that Gary is supporting, have a look at these websites: www.BritishHeartlessFoundation.com & www.petaeurope.org. I hope you won't mind me emailing you about this, just thought you might find it interesting! Also, if you know of a way of letting all his other fans know about this, please spread the word!! You could own an original bit of Gary artwork!, and help support a campaign close to Gary's heart. Thanks! You know he's real busy touring but don'y you think he could have somehow figured out how to get the information out to a continental sized fan base as soon as he could have. Forget about whining about the record company or promoters who appear to be invisible. It's just kind of annoying to have to get online twice a day and check all the usual sources for info and do meta-name searches and anything I can figure to see if one new trinket of info has actually slipped out somewhere. It is a little fun in the beginning, kind of like a treasure hunt. But let's face it: we all have jobs, lives, commitments. As much advance notice to plan traveling to see the man around these daily events would be appreciated. These shows are not selling out on "walk up" business and none of us are dead-heads that just pack up the van with ecstasy and hit the road (or do some of us)? Ah, I am just venting. Got DC tix but I am holding off on buying anything else until I can see the entire schedule. As for Irving Plaza in NYC, there are only 5 dates available now between 4/17-29. Also, as much as I would like to see Gary come to Chapel Hill or Norfolk, VA (we have a killer little venue called the Norva downtown) I KNOW it will never happen. It would be almost as likely for him to come to the Outer Banks! Well, have to go scour the net for more dates. It will be great to see him!
