But alas, I am leaving 2 days prior for an 8 day vacation to Hollywood, California. The final blow is I shall be gone from Hollywood by the time Gary hits The House of Blues in West Hollywood. :( It would appear that I am not meant to see Gary this year. I still have plans to purchase tickets in support of Gary but may have to find someone to go in my place. I am sure my husband will understand! How strange that I am wearing my "Pure" t-shirt from NuWorld. Anyone in the area who would like to help organise a pre/post gig party please make contact ASAP so we can get something cool together. There are some gothic/industrial clubs in Cincy that Gary may enjoy (Spy Club and The Warehouse). I'll be calling Spitfire Records tomorrow so I can start a "street team" to promote the gig. t3rry in cincinnati http://welcome.to/dogstar mailto:dr13@one.net ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 20 Feb 2001 21:59:55 -0800 From: Derek Langsford Subject: I, Assassin, Warriors reissues - news? Saw this at the Beggars site (www.beggars.com). Don't know how long this has been up there, but it was news to me (the late summer bit that is): "GARY NUMAN - The reissues of 'I, Assassin' and 'Warriors' are happening but won't be available until late summer 2001. The remastering of I, Assassin is complete - no surprises as the album's already maximum length for a CD. We'll keep you updated as things happen." The drummer Yeah, I have to agree, the bassist was definitely hot. And the lead guitar guy looked remarkably like the alien dude who looks like David Duchovny on Roswell, y'know, the one with the lips? Overall, a pretty good looking band with a nice sound, sorta like a cross between the Cramps, generic goth groups, Garbage, except with Johnette Napolitano (Concrete Blonde) singing instead of Shirley whatsherface. Sorta. I liked'em. They got style, they rock in a Sisters Of Mercy kind of way, and if they broke the 'samey' quality of their tunes, could be real stars, particularly in the States. Ali and I met William Wilson and other Glasgow Crazies at a bar across from The Garage, the Nice and Sleazy, which is and isn't. I finally got to meet Joey, who was noticeable *not* for his Calgary Flames shirt, but his Molson shirt with reads: Yes I Am. Canadian. Also met George from Munich, who, along with myself, had the forethought to bring earplugs. The Garage itself is on the second or third floor, and was really nice until so many people came in that it was impossible to move. I mean, the place is a damned deathtrap. I thought the Cambridge venue during the Exile tour was bad, but damn, that was practically a stadium compared this place. And it was incredibly hot. Ali and I were sweating before Little Hell stopped, and then there was a looooooooooong 45 minutes before Gary appeared. The area to buy goodies was a very, very small landing just outside the exit doors of the main room. Great idea, except that the landing was also part of the stairs, and the only way to exit, so even if you wanted to stop and buy something, chances are you'd fall down the stairs and break your neck after being jostled by the crowd on way out. I would have loved to get a tee or a tour thingy, but I simply wasn't willing to risk my life over them. Gary should definitely either go for a bigger venue, or return to The Pavillion, where a lot more people could have a good time, smaller bar be damned. The backing band is fabulous, really the best I've heard thus far, and as for the sound quality, well, time to give the soundman a raise afaic! I was really surprised by some of the song choice - there was stuff from Pure, of course, and the usual suspects - Cars, DitP, AFE - as well as Metal, Films, M.E. And then we got Remind Me to Smile, Me! I Disconnect from You, Voix (!), among others whose names I forget. I live in hope that Gary will sing something from Tubeway Army, Dance, or I, Assassin. Of course I don't blame him in the least if he wants to concentrate on new songs, but I'd rather hear, say, The Life Machine or Jo the Waiter or Sister Surprise than Cars, live. Apart from the 45 minute wait between Little Hell and Gary, it was a fantastic concert, and I wish I could fly to NYC or Chicago for another one. -- We're through bein' cool eliminate the ninnies and the twits going to bang some heads, going to beat some butts got to show those evil spuds what's what Devo ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 21 Feb 2001 19:26:46 EST From: Zerfboy@aol.com Subject: Gary on TV (almost) --part1_ad.72c92a7.27c5b6c6_boundary Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit I heard gary on my cable system tonight!
