Hello, Three years ago for the Exile Tour, the Seattle show was at a place called the Fenix Underground. Well, that place apparently experienced such extensive damage during last week's earthquake that the building might have to be demolished. I'm not sure if there are/were plans in process for a Seattle show on the current tour, but the fact that the place he played in the past is unavailable may make this more difficult if not impossible. Last tour Numan played Vancouver, Seattle, and Portland, and I went to each show. Now I'm worried the best shot I'll have will be San Francisco! I hope he manages to book a show in the Northwest. -- dave ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 6 Mar 2001 09:19:12 EST From: Micromuzak@aol.com Subject: Detroit (Royal Oak), MI Gig Are there any list members planning on attending the show in Royal Oak Michigan. I checked the Church of Gary Numan Page but didn't see a pre-show location named. Thought if some list members were palnning on coming round I would suggest a meet location. Anyone coming? ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 6 Mar 2001 15:37:55 EST From: Psgifford@aol.com Subject: Check out GN_PureLash8 --part1_91.7c7d5d2.27d6a4a3_boundary Content-Type: multipart/alternative; boundary="part1_91.7c7d5d2.27d6a4a3_alt_boundary" --part1_91.7c7d5d2.27d6a4a3_alt_boundary Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit I simply love this promo for pure... psgifford@aol.com --part1_91.7c7d5d2.27d6a4a3_alt_boundary Content-Type: text/html; charset="US-ASCII" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit I simply love this promo for pure... psgifford@aol.com --part1_91.7c7d5d2.27d6a4a3_alt_boundary-- --part1_91.7c7d5d2.27d6a4a3_boundary Content-Type: message/rfc822 Content-Disposition: inline Return-path: From: NowIBelieve@aol.com Full-name: NowIBelieve Message-ID: Date: Tue, 6 Mar 2001 09:31:01 EST Subject: Check out GN_PureLash8 To: Psgifford@aol.com MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit X-Mailer: AOL 5.0 for Windows sub 130 Click here: GN_PureLash8 --part1_91.7c7d5d2.27d6a4a3_boundary-- ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 06 Mar 2001 15:30:16 -0600 From: Val & Ben Iglar-Mobley Subject: tapes and b-sides and "Cars" ... oh my! > Beggars DO have the tapes to the recording that was issued in the box > set.... and probably remaster the tapes that we have, to reissue an > edited version of the '80 show (as in the original LO box set). Okay, I'm calling off my first emailing campaign, then. What we need to do instead is start looking around for those master tapes! I know there are a few places in the basement I haven't looked yet. I mean, have the Beggars checked under the sofa cushions? Of course I'd prefer a reissue with the full concert set, but I'd gladly take a disc of just the original vinyl track listing. I suppose, if the Beggars can't find the masters, then I guess they can't be choosers. So I'm announcing a new email campaign: mailto:stevewebbon@almaroad.co.uk?subject=Where_do_you_need_me_to_look? > I have asked gary on the two recent on-line question occasions that > Gary has taken part in if he plans to release them without "Talk over" > but he has kept rather quiet about the subject(no reply whatsoever). Thanks for trying, William. Dang it, Gary, here we go again. No new b-sides on "Dominion Day" despite it being spread out over two discs, and now we're going to miss out on all the other songs he's recorded since the last album that didn't make it onto this one. I suppose one could say we've been spoiled with the plethora of b-sides we've gotten on previous singles that the Beggars have oh-so-graciously added to the reissues (thanks, Steve!) but I'd argue that the flip side of a single is exactly the place for those songs to go! I mean, isn't it a tradition of pop music that the b-side is where artists let loose with their "lesser" work, songs that they didn't consider worthy of making it onto the album but nonetheless came out of their own creativity? Gary has long stood alongside artists like Elvis Costello, Tori Amos, and Morrissey as someone who always made full use of the single format. Not that I didn't enjoy the updated recordings of "Metal," "Voix" and "Down" from "Dominion," but not a solitary non-album song after having such a perfect track record up til then? I mean, even 'Automatic' had "Love Like A Ghost" as a bonus! All right, now I'm whining. I think I'm getting slappy waiting for the circus to come to town. Speaking of "Cars" being performed live, I never said this when we were discussing it some Digests ago, but I applaud Gary's decision to decline being on VH-1. I know he still performs it in concert-- and I enjoy hearing it-- but it's a different audience he's playing to at a concert than that he'd get being on VH-1. If he played "Cars" on VH-1 that would peg him as the "one-hit-wonder" he's been labeled. He's trying to shake off that stigma. Unlike other musicians who emerged during the New Wave, Gary has created a wealth of music since then; I think it's fair for him to want to convey that idea. Playing that song live doesn't contradict that point, either. There his audience has already paid the admission; it's a safe bet these are people who are into him as an artist rather than just casual viewers. Plus, during a full concert that one song is offset by the rest of the set list. Let the "Cars" ride, I say. love, Ben http://home.earthlink.net/~iglarmobley P.S. With so many of us having Gary-inspired nick-names (I think we're up to FOUR "Machmen"), I want to have one. Call me "Mr. Wall." Nobody's claimed that one, yet, right? * * * "This machine won't last For always" ------------------------------ End numan@garynumanfan.nu Digest (03/06/2001 18:01) --------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------- T H E G A R Y N U M A N D I G E S T is produced, moderated, and distributed by Derek Langsford, Dave Datta, and Joey Lindstrom dlangs@sunstroke.sdsu.edu, datta@cs.uwp.edu, Joey@GaryNumanFan.NU ------------------------------------------------------------------- To reply to the messages in this list, email: numan@GaryNumanFan.NU If you want to be removed, or someone wants to be added, email: listserv@GaryNumanFan.NU and include this line as the first line of your message body: SUBSCRIBE numan@garynumanfan.nu (email address) or UNSUBSCRIBE numan@garynumanfan.nu (email address) (email address is optional but useful if you have multiple addresses) If you want to switch between receiving Digests or individual posts, again send to listserv@GaryNumanFan.NU and include either of these in your message body: NORMAL numan@garynumanfan.nu or DIGEST numan@garynumanfan.nu ------------------------------------------------------------------ Please note: this mailing list is configured to automatically unsubscribe you if mail to your mailbox goes undeliverable for any reason.
