I think that the surgery did the trick, early days yet, but I think my life will improve! Really quite disappointed to have missed the Convention. Still, I did get to see Gary a few weeks back.... I like 'Pump It Up'. I think that the weakest song on Berserker is, and always was, 'Berserker' itself! 'Pump It Up' has life, and a tune. 'The Hunter' is one of the best songs on the album. I have strongly suspected that many people are now on the Bulletin Board. I will have to have another go, and see how it works! I tried two or three times, but couldn't get the hang of it. Too old. I have just spent a great time surfing from it, through it, and over it, and will now be dropping in all the time. Eventually, I might have another go at the chatroom.... You can take a horse to water but you can't >make it drink. You ain't kidding. :-) Folks, I haven't forgotten my promise to find a solution to this - it *SHOULD* involve only a simple software upgrade. HOWEVER, as I've mentioned before, I want to *TEST* that upgrade extensively on a non-production machine before I muck about with the main email server here - I could wind up screwing up not only the Gary Numan Digest, but also email support for about 15 domains that I host here. The problem has been a lack of time. I run a very busy website here (non-Numan-related) that has, lately, been eating into my time quite a bit. Since it's a revenue-generating site, and thus PAYS FOR the continued operation of the Digest, I've had to give it the highest priority. :-) But this *IS* coming, I promise. :-) In the meantime, I would ask EVERY ONE OF YOU that has posted to the Digest in, say, the last month, to go to this website: http://digest.garynumanfan.nu Then click on "2001" and read, VIA THIS WEBSITE, a copy of a Digest that YOU have posted to. Does your post look "normal"? Or is it accompanied by a whole lot of extraneous junk? If the latter, YOU ARE A MAJOR PART OF THE PROBLEM. I think a lot of the problem here is that most people are completely unaware that the postings they are sending are in fact causing problems. BTW, if anyone cares, one of the things that's been occupying my time has been the installation and configuration of my new super file server. It's got 6 80-gig hard drives configured in a RAID5 array - formatted capacity of 381 gigabytes. SWEET!! :-) Oh, and if anyone cares about the non-Numan-related website I mentioned above, you can find it at http://www.oldtimeradiovault.com >Yes, I remembered Gary's birthday but didn't post anything. My life is way >to busy to remember to do everything. I remembered, but like you I just didn't have time to do anything about it. :-) On Sat, 10 Mar 2001 18:01:59 -0700, James Chapman wrote: >>On another issue entirely, isn't it strange, >>that now that Gary is getting a bigger >>public profile, (in Britain at least), >>the UK fans have generally gone quiet on >>the Digest! >> >I reckon the reason for that will be because most of us are now on the >Ultimate Bulletin Board (linked to www.afenet.com). It's fun - most of us >are best buddies on there now, and we arrange loads of social events !!! :) I pop in there now and then, but I find the place has been, for the most part, overrun by sad tossers who are more interested in provoking fights than anything else. Now, I know my opinion will be seen to be biased, since I am actually responsible for the production of the Digest, but my motivations are probably the exact opposite of what you might suspect: I'm not biased in favour of the Digest because I produce it. I produce it BECAUSE I'm biased in favour of it. :-) We've had our share of disagreements and even fights here, but compared to the UBB, they're nothing. And I find that the Digest is probably a better source for news because it tends to be distilled - none of the mindless blather that you see CONSTANTLY on the UBB. The folks here talk about Numan, not about which pubs have the best atmosphere or which members are the biggest wankers, etc. I disagree completely with your assertion that "most of us are best buddies on there now" - I've never seen that to be the case. Well, unless you're a member of one of the many exclusive cliques that resemble castles with moats. :-) Anyways, that's my two-bits worth.
