I've been anxiously awaiting Gary's tour to come through the Northwest and the closest he seems to be playing is either Denver or San Francisco. I know the place he played in Seattle called "the Fenix" sustained heavy damage during the recent earthquake. There appears to be several open dates between Minneapolis & San Francisco, but so far nothing has been posted. Unfortunately, I also have to travel on business during the US mid-west shows so it's looking like I might not even get to seem him this tour at all. I am hoping he plays in either Portland or Seattle on 5/3/01 so I'll have the opportunity to fly into either city on my return from Virginia to attend the show. If not, I'm hoping a taped show will eventually find its way on The Digest so at least, I can hear what he played. If anyone hears about NW dates, please post them immediately! Thanks, Rich ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 19 Mar 2001 23:22:41 -0600 From: Mr Wall Subject: I give you the one Numan has shown us the future. Technology isolates. So-called "progress" alienates. Communication is a futile nostalgia. We are all living in our solitary confinements, rage as we might against them. Numan is coming. He is just a voice that no one else will hear. Only we numanoids are pure enough for the truth. We are the select, we've listened to his voice. Be set to recieve, though even our contacts with others in the army of the tubeway are but vain posturing. Only circuitry is still active, left to fade away, alone. The human is dead. Long live the new man. * * * "And now you're one of us: The Wretched! Come on!!!!!! There's no >enthusiasm here!!!!!!! The closest he's getting to me is about a 2-day drive away. I just got back from flying overseas to see him tour in the UK - I think I'll reluctantly have to give this one a miss. >Thread suggestions: >The most personally meaningful Numan song you've heard..... Without a doubt, "Cars". I'm kinda a loner at heart. :-) Then again, I did meet a *LOVELY* Numanoid lady in the UK who is flying out to visit me this Thursday... ;-) >First Numan shows...... I've told this story a gazillion times, so I'll just say "Calgary, 1980, final show of the Teletour, and it HOOKED me as a lifelong Numanoid - to then, I was just a casual fan" >Meeting Numan...... I accidentally attributed a box of leftover pizza, on a hotel room coffee table, as possibly belonging to Gary. He did *NOT* like that. :-) (He hates pizza) >Updates on the best/least fave Gary CD's/LPs >Rare finds, etc etc......... We've done that, so might I suggest "top 5" and "worst 5" covers of Numan's work? I'll start, and hopefully guarantee some flaming replies. :-) (But I really do honestly feel this way about them): Top 5 covers ------------ 1) "Down In The Park" - Marilyn Manson ("Lunchbox" single, I believe) 2) "Cars" - Fear Factory (single) 3) "Poetry And Power" - Gravity Kills ("Random") 4) "Down In The Park" - The Foo Fighters ("Songs In The Key Of X") 5) "We Are So Fragile" - Jesus Jones ("Random") Worst 5 covers -------------- 1) "Cars" - Bytet ("Ghost Of A White Face Clown") 2) "Cars" - either of the Dave Clarke abortions ("Random" & "Random 2") 3) "Cars" - Shampoo ("Girl Power" single) 4) "Emotion" - Techno Army ("Techno Army") 5) "Films" - Underdog ("Random") >I still recall that wonderful "happy" feeling I used to get when I found out >that Numan had released something new and I had no idea (ie: Dance, I >Assassin, Warriors, Berserker, Fury, Strange Charm, M&S and Sacrifice.....the >days before internet) by just happening to find a copy in a record or CD >shop.......those were the days, my friends!!!!!!! I remember them well - we had an independent record store here called, oddly, "The Record Store". They occasionally stocked some Numan vinyl ("Numa Records Year One" being one that I picked up there) but it was their mail-order catalog that I used quite often, so I'd get that "rush" by spotting something new in the catalog, and then ordering it... and then waiting WEEKS (in agony!) for it to arrive. But I wound up with some rarities, including ORIGINAL CD copies of both "The Fury" and "Strange Charm". It looks to me like something new comes along and oh wow lets dump all the old stuff and have this. Is the word "loyalty" in the Dictionary anymore?? The Numan Digest has been here a long time and the people involved have put a lot of time and effort into uniting Numan fans online which has lead to real friendship in some cases. So to hell with the asses who want to leave and go to the other side we dont need them! Every night, while catching up with my paperwork, after my wife had gone to bed, I had the Outland album on, with earphones. Strange to say, I found myself singing Dream Killer at work many times after that!
