FYI, I'll be wearing my trusty Gary Numan Digest t-shirt. After some careful analysis with the discography, I totaled the number of gigs played by some of Gary's more prominent band members, and here's what I found: Gary Numan 427 Credric Sharpley 250 Chris Payne 222 Rrussell Bell 222 Ade Orange 174 John Webb 169 Richard Beasley 141 David Brooks 111 Paul Gardiner 94 Steve Harris 93 Some of the numbers were surprising to even me. BTW, these statistics are through the completion of the North American Pure Tour. Wow I got to see the man last night at the House of Blues. The House of Blues was really cool because this was the closest I've every been able to get to the man while he performed, even though the place was packed when he got on stage. Grand Theft Audio was the opening act and they really kicked ass. I plan on buying their CD. They really built the energy up in the room, but then this other band came on I believe their name was Gwen Mars. They just sucked all the energy back out. They where so boring, and a total rip off of Smashing Pumpkins. There really should have just been one supporting act GTA, Or at least just have this guy GM open first while everyone is still trying to get their beer. It turned out their was a small group of young females that followed Gwen Mars around, and apparently he has two albums out. I guess they think he's cute or something, although I couldn't see it. But then the man came on everything was good again I had great fun. Even though there seemed to be some people that go to HOB just to ... I guess be seen? they just sort of stood there in front of the stage and didn't really seem to be getting into it. I've heard from friends that go to the clubs more then I do, that's just how L.A. audiences are but at The Palace in 97 (or 98?) there was a lot of energy, and everyone seemed to be into it. Don't get me wrong there was plenty of Numanoid's in the Audience, and we all sang along to all the old standards. Of course like all the other shows in the U.K. and U.S. the Pure material was heavily featured. I was surprised that no one seemed to sing along to Listen To My Voice. It's got a great sing along chorus that usually Numan fans love. Gary seemed to be in great form and he was able to bring everything back up again after that awful G.M. Although I am starting to see that Cars is a heavy weight around his neck. IMHO he should cut it from the set. I could tell he didn't want to be singing this song again for the 10 millionth time. Plus if it got around that he wasn't going to sing Cars again maybe it would keep out all those posers out. Alright well that was my two cents. I would really be interested to Hear from others that went to the Los Angeles show. But lately there hasn't been much in the digest, from either side of the pond. So I'll probably be the only one that reads it next Wednesday... LOL.
