I seem to recall there were a few people who objected to the term back when we used it originally in 1998. I know Riana got slagged off by a few people for using it. There ain't no such thing as a bad word. There are bad INTENTIONS, but no bad words. Some people have a knee-jerk reaction against using words that may (or may not) be "politically incorrect". Personally, I don't have much time for such people. The term was carefully considered and, three years later, I believe is STILL an appropriate choice to describe the behaviour of these particular people. These people charged into the place like they owned it and we were nothing more than mere cattle. They had no more respect for other people than your stereotypical SS trooper did, and their tactics were similar. That is what is meant by the use of the word "Numanazi". If you (and I mean anyone else reading this, not you Lisa) find the word itself to be offensive, well, I found their behaviour to be equally, if not more, offensive. :-) What I find interesting is that not one of them, in three years, has ever stepped in here to defend themselves against these accusations or the word we've labelled them with. So either none of them are on the Digest, or else they realize just how wrong they were and won't admit to it. >I was there in the fray with my girlfriend Phoebe, Mark, John, Joey, >Jim, Derek, Riana, and her mom Jan. The best by far was >on the Dream Corrosion tour, where the support band pulled out of the gig so >Gary did an extra half hour :D I was there for the last six shows of that Premier Tour, and until the night of that Manchester gig, had never so much as heard of "Let Loose" - apparently, they never made it big in Canada. Everyone I spoke to on the "Numanoids On Tour" coach seemed to agree that Let Loose was a "shite" band (a word I didn't understand at first - you Brits are an odd lot, heh heh!). So, I wasn't expecting much. And I thoroughly enjoyed their show. It was clear that these guys were there BECAUSE they were Numan fans and wanted to show their support. I was told that they had their own headline show the following night in Manchester, and had sold a LOT more tickets than Gary had, but they were there for this one show because they wanted to be there. I got a kick out of the way they teased us between songs, leading us to believe they were going to play a Numan cover (ie: the lead singer kept going on about how they're all Numan fans, and the drummer started laying down the drum beats to "Films" at one point). The music didn't seem typical of "boy band" music (which, I agree, is usually awful) - it seemed like straight-ahead rock and roll to me. I quite liked it, though I admit I didn't rush out to buy any of their albums afterward. They were definitely a refreshing change from "Cubanate", another support band from that tour that featured a lead singer that liked to "hock a loogie" into the crowd (there's a good Canadian expression for ya - guess we Canucks are just as odd as Brits - it means to spit a large ball of mucus). / From the desk of Joey Lindstrom / / "A host is a host from coast to coast / & no one will talk to a host that's close / Unless the host (that isn't close) / is busy, hung or dead." / --Unknown ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 12 May 2001 12:26:12 From: "William Wilson" Subject: Support Acts Hi! all, Antonio, this years bannd was called "little hell",I really liked them and have now purchased a cd ep single(they handed out a few promos to at the Glasgow gig to those at the front...got one*G*) didnt really like Hohokam live but really enjoyed Larry Lober(I know he's not everyones cup of tea,but he was fun),Freak UK were fantastic(Does anyone have any bootlegs of them?)Mick Scarlet was/is a star!,Paper Toys(you forgot about them....I WISH I could...terrible!!),Tik'N'Tok,fantastic!!,BIS????oh god!! can Gary sure pick the stinkers sometimes!!,did Nash ever do a "proper" support slot, don't remember him doing so,but here in Glasgow we sometimes get a different support act, sometimes none at all. And there was also PAPER TOYS on the METAL RYTHMN tour (I liked them anyway, even if the majority didn't). On THE DREAM CORROSION TOUR when there was no support, wasn't it supposed to be TOYAH, but she pulled out? Not too sure if I'm making this up, but I seem to remember some story along these lines back in '93. I think YEN was the suppoet band that I actually watched back in'89. Most of them since then have been s***e in my opinion (from what little I've seen or heard of them). David. P.S. What happened to the proposed single that was supposed to be out when Gary toured in February? Is he still going to release anything off PURE at all? ------------------------------ End numan@garynumanfan.nu Digest [05/12/2001 18:01] --------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------- T H E G A R Y N U M A N D I G E S T is produced, moderated, and distributed by Derek Langsford, Dave Datta, and Joey Lindstrom dlangs@sunstroke.sdsu.edu, datta@cs.uwp.edu, Joey@GaryNumanFan.NU ------------------------------------------------------------------- To reply to the messages in this list, email: numan@GaryNumanFan.NU If you want to be removed, or someone wants to be added, email: listserv@GaryNumanFan.NU and include this line as the first line of your message body: SUBSCRIBE numan@garynumanfan.nu (email address) or UNSUBSCRIBE numan@garynumanfan.nu (email address) (email address is optional but useful if you have multiple addresses) If you want to switch between receiving Digests or individual posts, again send to listserv@GaryNumanFan.NU and include either of these in your message body: NORMAL numan@garynumanfan.nu or DIGEST numan@garynumanfan.nu ------------------------------------------------------------------ Please note: this mailing list is configured to automatically unsubscribe you if mail to your mailbox goes undeliverable for any reason.
