Those of you looking for the 1st Gwenmars CD, go to "www.secondspin.com" where you will find about 9 copies of the Magnosheen CD for $2.99........ It's erroneously listed under "Gwen Mars", so it's easy to miss.......I just checked it about 5 min ago and found 9 copies listed as in stock.......happy shopping :) www.secondspin.com is VERY reliable and if you're able to find their actual stores (Chicago, Denver, etc etc.), they are really great places! Rod Reynolds has said that the album was remastered to clean up the sound a bit for the reiss, and I'm wondering if the improvement makes it worth a second purchase. Love that album, hate the production quality. Also, does the 12" version of "New Thing From London Town" on the Cleo reiss of 'Strange Charm' have the altered lyrics of the single release, or is it just a longer version of the album text? I'm a Gary completist, but I don't feel the need to have every release in every sleeve in every edition. For me, it's the music. I only have the album version of "New Thing" (and "I Still Remember," for that matter, but I'm about to correct that latter) and I'd like to fill that gap. One of the Chicago area stores I like to hit has 'Sacrifice' and 'Strange Charm' for 6.99 (US) each and I'd just like input from the noids in the know whether they're worth the plunge. (Just for a frame of reference, I bought the reiss'd 'Telekon' strictly for the cleaned-up sound, but I didn't think that one was worth it. But then again, the 'Asylum' disc I have of that album had pretty clear sound to begin with.) love, remastered and cleaned up, Ben http://home.earthlink.net/~iglarmobley * * * "I'm Talking to you Like a shadow in the dark" ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 03 Jun 2001 12:10:56 -0700 From: Rod Reynolds Subject: Re: Sacrifice and Strange Charm > Love that album, hate the production quality. Yeah, that's why I remastered it to take out some of the muddiness. It's still muddy but I think it's better. I didn't want to change it too much; I didn't want to remix it (well, I did actually, but for my own sake only). I went as far as I thought I could without altering the artistic integrity of the original work. > Also, does the 12" version of "New Thing From London Town" on the Cleo reiss > of 'Strange Charm' have the altered lyrics of the single release, or is it > just a longer version of the album text? The Cleo version is the original 12" mix which I had mastered for this release, as it does not exist anywhere on cd. The lyrics are completely different from the album version (except for the chorus). I guess you weren't on the list then, but we had many debates about the lyrics, which are printed in the liner notes, but may or may not be 100% accurate (no one has the actual lyrics apparently, at the time at least no one came forward with them). My intention was to put something on each re-issue that I did that was not available elsewhere on cd (or was rare). Due to forces stronger than my own (Gary himself vetoed some of my proposed bonus tracks) this did not happen on every release. I think the Strange Charm cd I did is one of the best in the series, and worth the price for the bonus tracks alone. To my knowledge this is the only place that the 10" version of I Can't Stop appears. $6.99 and you're not sure they're worth it?
