Hey, hey, hey, I've got something for you! First, let me say I never said anything about what Gary himself thinks of the movie. I was talking about his art. His albums I think are related in meaning to what 'Fight Club' is about. And that doesn't necessarily have to mean that they were intentionally related; they may have been a happy coincidence. Ergo, my question whether Gary had seen it. Next: Whoa! "It's all the fault of those damn women"? Yikes! 'Fight Club' is not a misogynist rant. It's not the poster movie for the anti-feminist backlash, any more so that Gary is the voice of woman-hatred for using "bitch" in his songs as often as he does. Yes, there was that one line, but that is not what the entire movie is about. It's about trying to find meaning in a capitalist, consumer culture. The fight clubs became one way to find it. It's about feeling destroyed and trying build oneself anew. > It seems to me that if anything, Gary's always had an incredibly > strong sense of self, hell, if he didn't, he wouldn't have made as > much music as he has. Again, I'm not talking about Gary the person. I'm talking about the New Animal, his persona. Gary himself may have a strong identity, but his narrative characters are lost and soul-annihilated. peace, Ben http://home.earthlink.net/~iglarmobley * * * "In my darkness, I see children savage and blind..." ------------------------------ End numan@garynumanfan.nu Digest [06/18/2001 18:01] --------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------- T H E G A R Y N U M A N D I G E S T is produced, moderated, and distributed by Derek Langsford, Dave Datta, and Joey Lindstrom dlangs@sunstroke.sdsu.edu, datta@cs.uwp.edu, Joey@GaryNumanFan.NU ------------------------------------------------------------------- To reply to the messages in this list, email: numan@GaryNumanFan.NU If you want to be removed, or someone wants to be added, email: listserv@GaryNumanFan.NU and include this line as the first line of your message body: SUBSCRIBE numan@garynumanfan.nu (email address) or UNSUBSCRIBE numan@garynumanfan.nu (email address) (email address is optional but useful if you have multiple addresses) If you want to switch between receiving Digests or individual posts, again send to listserv@GaryNumanFan.NU and include either of these in your message body: NORMAL numan@garynumanfan.nu or DIGEST numan@garynumanfan.nu ------------------------------------------------------------------ Please note: this mailing list is configured to automatically unsubscribe you if mail to your mailbox goes undeliverable for any reason.
