Yes - I agree that the end of the movie was a little, ummmm, messy. Haley Joel Osment was perfect of course and Jude Law did a sexy bang-up job of a lover mecha (kinda reminded me of a better version of Adam Ant. Maybe it was the accent...) even with the silly strut. Even the mildly Ewok-looking teddy bear robot was pretty good as a side kick. I coulda done without the 30 seconds of the "Chris Rock" Robot - that's when the movie blew it for me! The first half was enjoyable. My friend next to me was balling and I looked at her as the credits rolled and said "WHAT was THAT all about?" - if you see it you'll know what I mean! But I still think "Down in the Park" would have been perfect in that Flesh Fair scene. I hope Kubrick isn't rolling in his grave... Hopey PS - If anyone wants to sell their Numan/Smith CD of "Human" drop me a line. I missed a perfect opportunity on eBay to bid on it... :( ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 2 Jul 2001 09:56:08 +0100 From: luc.de_visscher@ch.novartis.com Subject: For the millionth time, Numan tunes for Nokia No help whatsoever on my previous mail. My previous mobile broke down and I got a new one (Nokia 6210). Previously, I downloaded "Cars" from yourmobile.com, but it is no longer there. Can anybody help me with this (it doesn't need to be Cars, any alternative is welcome). Bare in mind I must be able to get it to Belgium. Thanks already, Luc De Visscher The Numan Factor Belgium ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 2 Jul 2001 09:00:19 +0100 From: "Peter Martin" Subject: Re:Fonts Eric was asking about Numan fonts: the font on Exile is called Bajoran (as in Star Trek DS9). I can't remember where I downloaded it but it's excellent. As for favourite lyrcis, how can you choose? But I really like "You told me time makes it easy but you never told me time stands still" from The Fury is brilliant... Hi folks, just found the following german site: http://www.black-day.de/dave_gahan1.htm Where I read the following (translated): -------------------------------------------------------------------------- In 1979 Gahan met his girlfriend Joanne at a concert of The Damned. "She was one of the so-called 'Billericay'-Punks", he remembered. Strangely one of her favored bands was the original punkoriented Tubeway Army. Because of that, she always went to Gary Numan concerts in and around london. As Numan began to develop in the more electronic direction, Gahan become a fan. So they both travelled through the country in order to see Numan at his big tour in the end of 1979. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- I never heard of this! Is this something new, or have I just missed this? There are many tv-portraits about depeche mode, but I never heard about that! Clearly, DM are influenced by Gary, but that Gahan joined a whole tour and was a fan. For me always Garys shows come to my mind when I saw a stage show of DM. So now I am convinced that not only the electronic music but also Garys kind of stage shows have influenced DM. Right here. In this very spot. Anyway: The song is "Where's Your Head" at by Basement Jaxx and has a heavy sample from "M.E." I would say that they have looped 8 bars of "M.E." and simply "sing" and add effects over top of it. (similar to what Mariah Carey did a few years ago when she appropriated the Tom Tom Club into her own "song"). The credits of the same song say it also includes a sample of "This Wreckage" but I don't hear it. The song is on the soundtrack to 'Tomb Raider' and it is also on the new Basement Jaxx cd, which came out last week.
