Titled "Oh no! It's Rubato!" this is another of his cadence-challenged solo piano tribute albums. Yes, you guessed it, this time it's Devo. (Are you getting goosebumps, King Rich?) Terre's e-newsletter announced that it'll be released on Mille Plateau records later this year. Here's the track listing: 1. gut feeling/(slap your mammy) 2. jocko homo 3. mongoloid 4. space junk 5. blockhead 6. whip it 7. through being cool 8. out of sync 9. deep sleep 10. patterns 11. the 4th dimension And this description from the newsletter: < description: this third installment of the 'rubato series' features piano interpretations of devo titles. (previous releases interpreted kraftwerk and gary numan.) themes include devo's relationship to americana, their initial critique of the audio marketplace, their ultimate capitulation to big business and advertising, and parallels with artists in the smaller electronica marketplace. > What that all means is there'll be included with the album another essay about the meanings of de-evolution, just as with his Gary tribute. You can preview the essay in full at Terre's web site: http://www.comatonse.com/listening/ohnoitsrubato.html I hope everybody has picked up their copies of that exquisite Gary tribute by now. If that album is news to anybody with this announcement, once again here's the page on his site for it: http://www.comatonse.com/listening/replicas.html I believe they can be ordered through his site, but the shipping costs just got higher (for those of us in the U.S.) since Terre's move to Japan. You might just want to get the catalog number there and order it from a local store. And if you want to round out your Terre collection, here's his first, dedicated to Kraftwerk: http://www.comatonse.com/listening/rubato.html I have this latter one and, of course, I'm not as wild about it as I am about the Gary album, but then I'm not as familiar with Kraftwerk's music. A little. Sorry for this slightly off-topic post, but when I saw that news I knew I gotta tell you all about it; I gotta scream and shout it!
