Well, Gary sadly laments it's passing, but then again he rescued it from a life of being a stray. That was one lucky cat then! How I would love to lick Gary's eyelids every morning! ;) Hey Jeff Tolva, I am thinking of selling that poster you sold me, I wasn't as thrilled with it (design wise) when I got it. Nothing against you or your fantastic shipping and fast response. So, any US takers of the US PURE TOUR POSTER? It's like 18"x24" and I paid $25 for it. This is the channel that makes cheap porn look pretty high class by comparison. I mean, all porn is cheap, but GMM is filled with dumb women with big breasts. Nothing wrong with big breasts, but dumb? Cliche heaven. Typical shows: A Question of Sex (particularly bad "game" show") Video Vixen highlights Strip Poker Speed and Beauty Girls on Film Monster Trucks Teeny Weeny Bikini Contest (actually quite funny) Bonnets and Hoods Striptease Uncovered Basically, it's the ultimate channel for guys who have those calenders where girls (I'd say women, but 'girls' seems more appropriate) lie spread-eagled on sportscars. This does not give me hope for Gary's non-musical future. Will I watch it, hell yeah! Dryad, whose husband has been known to dabble with, ahem, things porn-related, and even he says GMM is crap -- "And we are scatterlings of Africa On a journey to the stars" Juluka - 'Scatterlings' ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 27 Jul 2001 13:21:18 -0500 From: "Val & Ben Iglar-Mobley" Subject: it's so noisy and bright, and I just love being here The Sacrifice has been rescued. I posted a while ago that I was on the ropes about buying the remastered Cleo 'Sacrifice'? Well, I took the plunge, on the recommendation of a third party. 'Sacrifice' has been my penultimate fave Gary album (after that monumental release, you know the one) but I've always been frustrated with the production quality. From the moment I popped it into the player and heard the opening hum, I knew Rod had fixed what those Tannoy Little Gold speakers weren't letting Gary hear. The vocals and the heavy synth lines had been lifted up out of the mud! I could tell immediately, but I thought maybe I was just wanting it too badly and imagining it. So I had Val administer a little Pepsi challenge, just to make sure. I sat facing away from the stereo and had her play first one of my 'Sac' discs and then the other-- the same song-- to find out which one sounded more clear to me. I spotted it instantly. Then I tried it again, this time flipping the discs behind my back and putting them into the player so that neither of us knew which edition we were hearing. Both times, to my ears the Cleo remaster sounded much cleaner. Thank you, Rod. By restoring the sound on no less than one of the very finest Gary albums, you've done a real service to the body of numanoid fandom. (And as a visual illustration, the cover image is a little brighter as well!) So let me recommend to any audiophile noids out there who haven't made the investment, yet-- snap up a copy! I suppose some people might not care that much, but if you're one of the ones frustrated with that album's muddy and dark sound (and you know who you are), do yourself a favor. About the bonus tracks, I've been wondering why Rod picked the extended versions of "A Question Of Faith" and "Love And Napalm," the two singles-- wink, wink-- instead of "Whisper Of Truth" or the early version of "Absolution." Hearing the disc, I understand. The production on those extendeds is as clean as the album proper, while the two b's-- "Play Like God" and "Metal Beat"-- sound no different from their earlier releases. Let me guess, Gary gave you the masters to the extended album, but not the b's, Rod? So Rod did a compromise: offering a couple of songs for the American fans who missed any of the imports, and the two stand-out songs from the extended album with their sound cleaned up for those of us who have the original. Finally I can enjoy this album without constantly eyeing the speakers, furrowing my brow, and wanting to tweak the treble and bass on my receiver... which never quite satisfied anyway. You know, I've noticed that the demo versions of "Pure" and "Rip" that I got from The German sound cleaner than the final edits as well, as do the demos of the 'Exile' album he included for me. All the little sound effects hadn't yet been added in either on those, which I think ultimately detracted a bit. Maybe Gary needs Gemma to sit in with him during the mastering process so she can say, "Okay, there, it's done, Gary. You can stop twiddling with it, now!" Didn't he say he was still trying to add this and that on the very morning he presented the 'Pure' album to the Eagle people? I guess there's something to be said for stepping back and letting one's creation start living its own life.
