In Australia, we also have a version of "Who Wants to be a Millionaire?". Three weeks ago, the $125,000 question was: Which rock star was born Gary Webb? (I couldn't believe it!!!) Choices being A Gary Glitter B Billy Idol C Gary Numan D Cliff Richard Well the poor bloke had no idea at all, he had run out of lifelines and he seemed to remember that Cliff Richard's real surname was Webb. So D was his final answer and he won $32,000 instead of $125,000. By the way Sir Cliff Richard's real name is Harry Webb. I think I sould go on the show now, as after the ad break, host Eddie McGuire started with "If you knew that Gary Numan was born Gary Webb, give us a call to come on the show..." Who Wants to be a Millionaire?? Yes please!! Sad fact is, only a handful of Aussies would have known the answer! ******************************************** David P. Amazing pyrotechnics and great stage presence abound, giving this show very high marks among those shows I've seen this year...........I may possibly rate this one higher than U2's 2nd night here in DC..........wow! And you thought Gary had a stage show......Thank you to Boris from the group CreamVIII (German) who initiated me into the Rammstein ranks.......I'd definitely go again!!!!!!!!! now playing.......> Rammstein: Mutter (gee I wonder why) pllus lots of the Rare Cult box set (which I've been playing for weeks on end........GREAT stuf) Rick in DC --part1_c9.134f7b48.2898e5a3_boundary Content-Type: text/html; charset="US-ASCII" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Shoot me for being off topic, but as a frequent poster, I'm taking a few liberties: Just got back from the last of the US Rammstein tour dates and OH MAH GAWD all I can say is you have GOT to see this act if you haven't!!!!!!!!!!   Amazing pyrotechnics and great stage presence abound, giving this show very high marks among those shows I've seen this year...........I may possibly rate this one higher than U2's 2nd night here in DC..........wow!  And you thought Gary had a stage show......Thank you to Boris from the group CreamVIII (German) who initiated me into the Rammstein ranks.......I'd definitely go again!!!!!!!!! now playing.......>  Rammstein:  Mutter (gee I wonder why) pllus lots of the Rare Cult box set (which I've been playing for weeks on end........GREAT stuf) Rick in DC --part1_c9.134f7b48.2898e5a3_boundary-- ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 1 Aug 2001 14:38:24 -0500 From: "Val & Ben Iglar-Mobley" Subject: his screams would've guided them to him Gary should have released a live album from this tour. I know what you're going to say. I should stop second-guessing him, as should we all. I agree. We should. Gary's being circumspect about his moves at this point; he doesn't want to do anything that will jeopardize the elevation in his profile of late. He doesn't want to back-slide into debt and financial uncertainty. I guess that's why we're not going to get any singles (and hence no b'sides) with this album. I understand that. Heck, those singles never get any airplay anyway. And I certainly don't want to see Gary ever have to consider packing it in again. So if that means we have to forego any singles and have to wait three years between new albums, I won't complain if it means he's still recording. And I suppose that also means we can't count on the regular live albums, either. But still he should've released one. His last several have each included the complete set for the nights they were recording. He could have done that this time and still had it fit onto one disc (as one of the Machmen proved with his own piracy of same-- thanks, Jim!). That would've meant less outlay for a release, a lower price, and so greater reach. Plus he could've tagged it as his "return to the US" (even though technically that was the last one) which would've played on his renewed chic. But the main reason he should've done a live album: he's industrial now. Industrial music just sounds better live. My favorite 242 album is their 'Live Code.' David Kendrick (former DEVO-tee) wrote an overview of industrial some years ago for the LA Times, and in it he lists "10 Essential Industrial Albums" among which he includes Ministry's 'In Case You Didn't Feel Like Showing Up,' and says: "Because industrial music is by nature distorted and shrieky, live industrial music is even better because it's more distorted and shriekier... more whomp for your record-buying dollar... " I've warmed to 'Pure' since the tour, but I still don't consider it one of his best. I've noticed, however, that I like the live versions on the tour edition better than the studios. Just imagine what a full live album from this tour would have sounded like! "If only... if only..." Until we get a live album, feast your eyes on the photos Val and I took from the couple of concerts we attended. Not with a disposable, mind, but with our own and with zoom no less, from a person or two back in the crowd! (Much thanks to Jim Napier for scanning them and posting them on behalf of a couple of complete computer hacks-- not to be confused with hackers, natch-- who couldn't find their way around a scanner using all four hands and a direct line to tech support!) http://themachman.garynumanfan.nu/nep161.htm love and distorted shrieks, Ben http://home.earthlink.net/~iglarmobley * * * impeach the Rehnquist five http://www.nlg.org/Impeachment/case_for_impeaching_the_rehnquis.htm ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 1 Aug 2001 23:13:56 -0000 From: Markus Dietrich Subject: Special Version vs. Better Promotion As I read at the AFE site: ---------------------------------------------------------- "If Eagle Released an Extended Version of Pure, Would You Purchase it?" Yes: 81.02 % No: 17.47 % ---------------------------------------------------------- IMO the author want to show Eagle that it is worth releasing the Extendend Version. But I think it would be better Eagle would take its financial budget to promote the next album or single in a much better way!!! Releasing such special versions will only fix a certain amount of money, which Eagle apparently do not have in mass!!! But this is my opinion. I would rather want to have fewer releases, but more power in promotion and what so ever!
