I made my way (pun intended) to The Proclaimers' gig at the Macewan Hall Ballroom here in Calgary, and had a great time - a smashing show. The Proclaimers, if you weren't aware, are from Scotland, and these boys ROCK! This, despite the fact that they look like accountants. Well, six-foot-two big bruising accountants, but accountants nonetheless. :-) Well, anyways, they announced before leaving the stage that afterwards they'd be at the merchandise table in the back, signing autographs. Hmmm - well, this is something I've done before, at many a Numan concert, so I decided to stick around and get an autograph or three. I joined the end of the line. And had a great time chatting with a slightly-drunk "Al", who did the reverse of what I did in February: he flew from Glasgow to Calgary to see his favourite band. I couldn't believe it: I mean the band is *FROM* freakin' Scotland, you'd think he could see them all the time over there! But no, he hops on a plane and comes to Calgary to see The Proclaimers. And I thought we Numanoids were devoted fans! Shit, this'd be like me travelling overseas to see The Tragically Hip, The Barenaked Ladies, Rush, or (shudder) Celine Dion. We get ENOUGH of that back home!! :-) Craig and Charlie Reid (the identical-twin brothers behind the band) were every bit as charming and courteous as Gary, and, also like Gary, made damned sure that EVERYBODY got their autographs before capping their pens. The show was definitely quite a bit different from a Numan show, as was the crowd: not a stitch of leather or PVC to be seen anywhere. Just t-shirts and blue jeans. The merchandise table was a bit different, too: no tour programs, but you could get t-shirts, ball caps, CD's.... and thong panties, with the Proclaimers' logo on 'em. I kid you not. :-) Somehow, I couldn't bring myself to buy a pair... / From the desk of Joey Lindstrom / / Rush Limbaugh's Updated 35 UNDENIABLE TRUTHS / / NUMBER 18 / / I am not arrogant. ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 03 Aug 2001 19:11:38 +0100 From: vickers@netcomuk.co.uk Subject: Re: Thank you all!
