The correct title of the Hip's album is "Music @ Work". :-) / From the desk of Joey Lindstrom / / For the first time in my life, I was reading things which had not / been approved by the Prophet's censors, and the impact on my mind / was devastating. Sometimes I would glance over my shoulder to see / who was watching me, frightened in spite of myself. I began to sense / faintly that secrecy is the keystone of all tyranny. Not force, but / secrecy...censorship. When any government, or any church for that / matter, undertakes to say to its subjects, "This you may not read, / this you must not see, this you are forbidden to know," the end / result is tyranny and oppression, no matter how holy the motives. / Mighty little force is needed to control a man whose mind has been / hoodwinked, contrariwise, no amount of force can control a free man, / a man whose mind is free. No, not the rack, not fission bombs, not / anything---you can't conquer a free man; the most you can do is kill / him. / -- John Lyle, "If This Goes On--" / (Robert Heinlein) ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 19 Aug 2001 23:09:20 -0700 From: Rod Reynolds Subject: new UK compilation Desire Hi. New UK compilation released last week, entitled Desire. Nothing new on it, picture from Machine & Soul era, tracks from Numa era: Deadliner, Love Isolation, Whisper of Truth, Puppets, My breathing, Love and Napalm, I Wonder, Beserker (sic), This is New Love, You Walk in my Soul, The Seed of a Lie, The Pleasure Skin, Desire, Absolution. (not a good scan for some reason but) there's a picture at: http://www.geocities.com/WestHollywood/3319/desire.jpg The tracks from Sacrifice sound great, and are equalized to the other album tracks, so there must have been some slight remastering/remixing done. No info in the booklet, though not a bad essay bu Michael Heatley. the label is Armoury (Pegasus, a division of Eagle Rock) from Germany. catalog #ARMCD 051 *shrug* Rod Los Angeles ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 20 Aug 2001 09:46:43 -0400 From: Sean Subject: Top 3 Non-Numan CDs... This is a tough one, since I tend to load all my discs into a changer and listen at random... but here's the last three I listened to all the way through, with a positive reaction: 1: Jerry Lee Lewis, "Classic (Disc 3)" 2: Ramones, "Rocket to Russia" 3: Ramones, "Leave Home" Make of it what you will :) ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 20 Aug 2001 17:28:51 -0600 From: "Joey Lindstrom" Subject: NME critics make up reviews Caught this story on the Drudge Report about our (ahem) good friends over at NME: http://uk.news.yahoo.com/010820/4/c1ncx.html Maybe Gary should take a lesson from "The Levellers". :-) / From the desk of Joey Lindstrom / / "Bend the rules, but don't break them." / --Everything I Need To Know I Learned From Babylon 5 ------------------------------ End numan@garynumanfan.nu Digest [08/20/2001 18:01] --------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------- T H E G A R Y N U M A N D I G E S T is produced, moderated, and distributed by Derek Langsford, Dave Datta, and Joey Lindstrom dlangs@sunstroke.sdsu.edu, datta@cs.uwp.edu, Joey@GaryNumanFan.NU ------------------------------------------------------------------- To reply to the messages in this list, email: numan@GaryNumanFan.NU If you want to be removed, or someone wants to be added, email: listserv@GaryNumanFan.NU and include this line as the first line of your message body: SUBSCRIBE numan@garynumanfan.nu (email address) or UNSUBSCRIBE numan@garynumanfan.nu (email address) (email address is optional but useful if you have multiple addresses) If you want to switch between receiving Digests or individual posts, again send to listserv@GaryNumanFan.NU and include either of these in your message body: NORMAL numan@garynumanfan.nu or DIGEST numan@garynumanfan.nu ------------------------------------------------------------------ Please note: this mailing list is configured to automatically unsubscribe you if mail to your mailbox goes undeliverable for any reason.
