Seems to me that every one of the cheapo Numan compilations that comes out has at least ONE title typo per disc.....(Here I Am/Here Am I, for example). Is this some sort of requirement for releasing these things? Geez! Rick in DC --part1_a2.189f0fc1.28b3239d_boundary-- ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 21 Aug 2001 20:20:19 +0100 From: Steve Perryman Subject: Top 3 plugs / Levellers / Villain of the week Hello First of all, stuff I've been listening to at the moment. 1) Mesh - Trust You (Snare Remix @ http://www.snare.org.uk) 2) Yankee Zulu - Album tracks (@ http://www.sjh.demon.co.uk - it's similar in style to Free and Led Zeppelin, so don't say you haven't been warned) 3) Human League - Secrets (I probably should have kept that secret) Other honourable mentions - Wah! - The Handy Wah! Hole, Kraftwerk - Computerwelt, Elbow - Asleep in the Back (very reminiscent of Talk Talk in places if you like that sort of thing) and Zero 7 - Simple Things I believe that the Levellers/NME business didn't end with the turd being sent in the post. I remember reading an NME festival review where the reporter claimed to have shat on the Levellers' tent in revenge for the turd in the post incident. Still this might not have been true, especially now that the likes of David Quantick and Stuart Maconie are now alleging that they made some of their NME gig reviews up. Any UK digesters see Midge Ure's awful rendition of "Fade to Grey" the other week. For those that missed it, it was all trademark Ure power chords, not a synth in sight and it went on FOR EVER. Horrible. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 21 Aug 2001 23:57:53 +0100 From: "antonio" Subject: Re: Digest (08/20/2001 18:01) (#2001-188) Joey told us all about - > http://uk.news.yahoo.com/010820/4/c1ncx.html > > > Maybe Gary should take a lesson from "The Levellers". :-) Heh. A gift box full of poo! This calls for a new poll. What is the best revenge an artist has had on music journalists? Hell, make up a revenge :D My favourite is a true one. On reading reviews of Torment and Torreros by his then band The Mambas, Marc Almond stormed into the NME (I think - or Melody Maker or Record Mirror - it was one of those and since all three were exactly the same it makes little difference) offices, demanded to see the person who had written the review and threatened him with a bull-whip. I think the reviewer had said something along the lines of "tacky S&M imagery" and Marc was screaming, "I'll show you S&M!!" I have the full story somewhere - probably in Marcs biography - and can always at a later date get my facts exactly right about this, but that was the gist. Funnily enough, he hasn't had a bad review in the mainstream British music press since, not even for Tenement Symphony. Perhaps Gary should consider threats of physical violence on reviewers?
