If I play the > tape on fast forward, the picture looks okay. Every copy of that tape that I've been exposed to did the same thing. The image would hold about halfway between it's proper vertical hold position where you could see the time code or whateverthehellitis. I have a tv that will lock it in...mostly. Any vid experts care to explain? ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 26 Aug 2001 21:48:14 -0500 From: Mark Hubbard Subject: More Gary video Alan wrote "I'd rather see something along the lines of the recent BB CD releases - gather together as much material as possible - Concert footage, promo videos, clips from TV and so on - and bung it out remastered. In an ideal world, I'd love to see a DVD per album, but there would never be enough material, so maybe a DVD to cover 78 - 80, and so on." I too think something along those lines would be great. Especially considering a couple things. DVD can be done on an international format, so there is not need to have 3 world formats like tape (PAL, NTSC, SECAM) Thus you have a savings to the producers right from the start. Then, considering how much can be fit on a DVD, you can fit all kinds of stuff on there, (IE old TV appearances, interviews, etc.). Dag gone it, I just want some clean video to watch. All these years of dubbed PAL to NTSC format stuff, is just getting worn out! LOL Also, more people to possibly market to, as there are those people they buy DVD of things they may not otherwise, like a music lover who buys all DVD music releases they come across etc.. so yet again, another chance to rekindle old fans and new! (wishful thinking at least) Mark Hubbard Who has yet to buy a DVD player, but since his CD player is dying, wants more of a reason to buy a DVD! ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 27 Aug 2001 01:21:27 -0700 From: obscure@blueneptune.com Subject: Re:PAL vs. NTSC Terrence, While I'm not a broadcast TV engineer (I work in radio)....I think that the difference is in the refresh rate and resolution of the image. I believe that NTSC runs at 50Hz and PAL at 60Hz (which seems to make sense about you're being able to see a clear picture in fast forward). The PAL standard is also higher resolution than NTSC...so I've heard of people getting somewhat decent standards conversions from PAL to NTSC...but I don't know about the reverse. In digital imaging, it's possible to go down in resolution without to much deterioration, but going up makes the image fuzzy and unusable. If you can find someone with a dual standard VCR...you might be able to dub a decent copy to PAL. cheers, Lisa > >Date: Sun, 26 Aug 2001 12:25:55 -0400 >From: Terrence Thoman >Subject: PAL vs. NTSC > >I recently purchased 'The Touring Principle' through eBay. Turns out the tape or the tape heads of my VCR are just very dirty. I cleaned the heads and that helped. > I recently purchased 'The Touring Principle' through eBay.
