It was pretty busy in there and so I was watching to see if anybody might react to the song. A couple of the younger kids, late teens/early 20's started groovin' a bit. When it finally came my turn to give my order, I asked what radio station and was told that it was piped in. Yeah! Headway! Gene ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 29 Aug 2001 22:29:40 -0700 From: Derek Langsford Subject: input from BB Thanks to Steve Webbon for his input on several things that Digesters have brought up recently. Rationality wins the day over fanaticism (unfortunately). >First thing - Gary owns the rights to all the videos (except Cars) he made = >while at Beggars so any DVD release is up to him. I'm surprised that Eagle = >haven't tried to release Touring Principle / Micromusic as they have a = >very active DVD department. Having said that, their releases tend to be = >the cheapest form of DVD which is just transferring an old video program = >straight with the minimum of interactivity and few, if any, bonuses. So we might be able, some day, to get an almost complete Numan video collection on DVD? While the music is great, do we really need all the naff videos in a crystal clear video format? I have Shadowman and have looked at it maybe twice. I think we'd be satisfied with a straight transfer (no extra goodies) as long as it was sonically and visually desirable. >Beggars have just finished a Cult DVD and, to do it properly, can be = >expensive. Forget the TV performances as bonus footage - the TV companies = >are asking around =A32500 per minute to use their footage! To do The = >Touring Principle Gary would have to redub the soundtrack (the original = >was mono) and also author it twice for PAL and NTSC. To do all this would = >be expensive considering the sales potential so I'd imagine he's waiting = >for the start up prices to come down. To make DVD's good you can't just '= >bung them out'. Things are always more complicated than most fans expect. They forgetthe bottom line. It has a nasty habit of getting in the way. >As for Beggars resigning Gary - suffice to say, much as they appreciate = >his current material, everyone has moved on from 18 years ago. It costs a = >great deal to promote an artist in the competitive arena so I don't think = >there are many companies who could afford to take the chance on Gary. = >However, Sanctuary is an excellent suggestion, though you'd need a big fan = >in a powerful position to make it work. Like Peter Murphy :-) ? Maybe he's still under a contractual obligation having only churned out 5 studio albums in 15 years. >Other comments - the artists on Random chose the songs they wanted to = >cover; most of them were more influenced by the earlier material which = >Beggars happened to publish at the time (it's now owned by the mega = >corporation Universal) The company bought out by Vivendi who are buying out MP3.com? Don't you just love it when everything is owned by just a few megacorporations - NOT! >and finally... I, Assassin has been remastered but there was no room to = >add anything different and the Warriors tapes have been located but I need = >to find time to pick them up and see what's on them - so don't ask if = >there will be anything rare yet! Any updates will be posted on the Beggars = >site in a couple of months. I hope I, Assassin will see release before year's end. I am really looking forward to it. Keep up the good work Steve, and thanks for taking the time to post.
