In event that I play a live show around the Halloween season (which it looks like I will, as nervous as I am) I'm going to ask my band to cover that song in reguards to the retaliation acts we plan to make. I'd hate to say this, but yeah, he's right. Who cares? A lot of other issues are kind of on peoples minds. It seems kind of petty to wonder about that. I just hope we whoop some terrorist ass after these hard times. No sympathy for the devil. John ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 13 Sep 2001 22:49:37 -0500 From: "Val & Ben Iglar-Mobley" Subject: off-topic: I see the love turn into feelings I know aren't quite the same Joey, I'm with you on the closeness of the US and Canada. Canada is our closest ally; we don't share an international relationship like it with any other country in the world. The US/Canadian border is the longest unprotected border in the world. We owe you Canucks our thanks for working with our FAA and taking our redirected flights during this tragedy. But I have to say I don't want to see anybody bombed as a result of this attack. Innocent lives have been taken. We've lost loved ones and family members. I haven't personally, though as a former New Yorker I have plenty of friends who live and work in Manhattan who were near the towers when they were attacked. (I'm still trying to find one of them, but I'm holding onto the belief she's just been busy contacting her family.) I would think having suffered the loss of people we care about, understanding the cruelty of their deaths, we wouldn't wish such a loss on anyone else, American, Palestinian, Afghani or otherwise. I'm saddened that our society may become uglier as a result of something ugly happening to us. I would hope we would rise out of this striving for something better, but already there have been assaults on Arab-Americans by people who are just feeling thirsty for revenge. On anybody. Here in Chicago a molotov cocktail was thrown through the window of a school for Muslim children. Children, for crying out loud. Have we forgotten what the lyrics to "Bombers" are really about? It's supposed to show the horrors of war, not its glorification. If there are people still at large who were involved in this attack, let them be apprehended and tried, but I don't want any missiles fired off in my name. We tried that before to assasinate Saddam Hussein, and we failed in that purpose, though we did manage to kill quite a few Iraqi civilians. Before him, we tried the same thing with Muammar Khadafi, failing then as well, though then also we killed numerous Libyan civilians. For myself, I've had enough of killing. If anyone else feels similarly, you can join in an email letter-writing campaign to urge George W. Bush to use restraint in his response to this tragedy, by following this link: http://www.workingforchange.com/activism/action.cfm?itemid=11918 love, among this wreckage, Ben ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 14 Sep 2001 11:08:17 -0400 From: "hopey1970@home.com" Subject: devestation and racism.... Please please please refrain from using any racial slurs (i.e. ragheads) from this Digest. Do you assume any German you m= ight meet is a Nazi? We do NOT need any form of hatred in this country right now. I live in Providence where a supposed "suspect" was hauled off a train coming from Boston at gunpoint and handcuffed and = he turned out to be just a passenger who HAPPENED to be an Arab. There were idiots running after the police cruiser yelli= ng obscenities at this man.... a sad day for Rhode Islanders. We then had a bomb threat called in less than a block from = my work. Paranoia is the word of the week. I still remain an atheist and I still remain a pacifist in all this. There is one person I am aware of that is still MIA = in NYC. My boyfriend and his band were scheduled to fly out of Logan to NYC for the New Music Awards band competition and= he is STILL sick to his stomach thinking about how close he could have come to disaster. My co-worker's brother works at= the Pentagon - he was finally reached that afternoon. An old high school friend whom I went to the prom with was schedul= ed to be at the WTC that morning but his flight was cancelled the night before.... The song "A Question of Faith" did pass through my mind recently. But I can't imagine Gary supporting any kind of "theme"= music as he is a trained pilot himself. That morning was the scariest two hours in my life as I sat with my co-workers listening to the radio as events unfolded = and I know now that more is to come.... be prepared people... it ain't over. It's just begun. I still feel in my bones th= at I will perish in a nuclear bomb. I have given money to the Red Cross as I cannot give blood. It's the least I can do. A special hello to Rick in DC. But I had to. I was on the phone Tuesday morning with a co-worker in New York when the events started to unfold. He was outside of the city (about 20 minutes), however I had multiple friends up in New York who were stranded. Also, I have had multiple co-workers who have family and friends, either on the flight 11 or in the towers. One, had a mother of a close friend on the 92nd floor of the tower and presumed lost. A year ago I helped transfer some of my team's work to Russia, and when I came in Monday morning, I received a wonderful note of condolences from my new friends in Russia. It has been hard to sleep or concentrate this week, and my note is rambling, but I thought it would be great to say thank you for all the thoughts that people around the world are pouring out to us Americans.
