Open message for Derek Langsford, Dave Datta, and Joey Lindstrom from the Tik-Tok Man: Hey guys, enough is enough; don't you think it's high time this list returned to normal programming? ie all things Numan-related? There's better places for the current ranting. This list ain't one of them. If not, I'm gonna be the first casualty ... TTTM ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 24 Sep 2001 01:49:57 -0500 From: Mark Hubbard Subject: Manson, flag, etc.. Well, I have a couple things to ponder here tonight. >Date: Sun, 23 Sep 2001 12:44:06 EDT >From: Stuwbooth@aol.com >Subject: Numan on Manson's label? > >But, I have read that Gary would be interested in moving that part of his operation completely to the States. So, I thought >that perhaps Marilyn Manson's label might be good choice? The two have collaborated before and we know that Manson >is a fan of Garys. Of all the groups that I have seen, Manson's stage show comes closest the Numan of Old's. On the last >tour, his label's new band were the support. I really think that Manson's crowd would love Gary. I wore my GN t-shirt to >the last tour, and had several people come to me who were turned on to Gary because of Manson's DITP cover. Myself, I have mixed feeling about Manson. To me, his CDs seem to be a very mixed bag each time. Some songs are good, but most of the CDs are not, to me anyway. However, I will have to say that I think that Gary would probably do pretty good on a tour with Manson, as a co-worker took me to see Manson a few months back when his wife bailed out on him. I have to say, that he had two warm up acts(personally, I do not like two pre show acts, toooo much time to get the show going) and for the most part the crowd was VERY receptive to them. Not like most shows, where the opening acts are all but ignored. Not so sure about the Manson label being good though. I would be afraid Manson would want to have a heavy hand in the work itself, if not, not a bad idea. >Although, somewhat ironically, you may wonder, I am not sure what affects the terror attacks may have on the Manson >tours (where, for example, it is common to show feelings of rebellion etc., by burning the US flag). > >What does anyone else think of this? > >-Stuart Booth I have to tell ya, that is the biggest part of the show that REALLY turned me off. He pretended to wipe his butt with the US flag. Now, Gary is a BIG believer in his country, and his flag, and talked about it in his book. Unlike Manson who displays more disrespect than rebellion with his actions. I feel that while it is OK for those folks to have feelings for our home country that may not be popular, there are some things that just should not fly. I am not saying they should be illegal, but out of decency, one should not do them. IE: We live in a country in the US, that allows one to burn the flag or wipe ones bum with it, and not go to jail or get beaten for it. They have the FREEDOM to do such a thing. THAT ALONE should be reason NOT to do it. If you do not like it, MOVE. But NO, he makes too much money here in the states. That being said, it is actions like this that only go to convince me more that Manson is more contrived, than a believer in any of the things he says. Hypocrite is the word I think I am looking for. Oh yeah, and his sound man can NOT mix! LOL Also, regarding the talk of Numan making modern videos to the old songs, why not still try to shop the Replicas album around, AS A MOVIE SCRIPT! With all the trite that is being made these days, surly some director would think it worth making, and have a much better film than half the crap out there. Imagine it, a movie based on Replicas, with the look/feel of say Dark City, or Blade Runner etc.. There was more to say, but Ii am sure you have had your fill of me today, Goodnight, Mark Hubbard ------------------------------ End numan@garynumanfan.nu Digest [09/24/2001 18:01] --------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------- T H E G A R Y N U M A N D I G E S T is produced, moderated, and distributed by Derek Langsford, Dave Datta, and Joey Lindstrom dlangs@sunstroke.sdsu.edu, davdat@allmusic.com, Joey@GaryNumanFan.NU ------------------------------------------------------------------- To reply to the messages in this list, email: numan@GaryNumanFan.NU If you want to be removed, or someone wants to be added, email: listserv@GaryNumanFan.NU and include this line as the first line of your message body: SUBSCRIBE numan@garynumanfan.nu (email address) or UNSUBSCRIBE numan@garynumanfan.nu (email address) (email address is optional but useful if you have multiple addresses) If you want to switch between receiving Digests or individual posts, again send to listserv@GaryNumanFan.NU and include either of these in your message body: NORMAL numan@garynumanfan.nu or DIGEST numan@garynumanfan.nu ------------------------------------------------------------------ Please note: this mailing list is configured to automatically unsubscribe you if mail to your mailbox goes undeliverable for any reason.
