Anyone know what he's up to? He should make a drum instructional video series for people wanting to learn to play... I did not really care for "Dream Corrosion", it kinda sucked, and the sound quality is crap; Dark Light (from the Sacrifice tour) is good quality sound and pretty good album as well. What happened to the planned release of the Premier Tour on cd? My favorite live albums are White Noise and Living Ornaments '79 (The Touring Principle). Is the Cleopatra version of White Noise remastered from studio tapes or is it the same as the Numa release (which I have)? Living Ornaments '81 should be remixed and remastered! It sounds like I'm listening to a VHS tape! The crowd is WAAAAAAAAY to high in the mix, and it's a loud album. Speaking of the Cleo stuff I purchase Strange Charm and Sacrifice since they were going for $6.99 and to hear some unheard tracks.. Were these remastered (hopefully not the same as the Numa Years box set); Sacrifice's sound quality is still bad, and there is a skip on "Magic" I believe. The artwork kinda reflects not so much care put into it... If a mention of 5 bonus tracks is to be made, make stickers mentioning it, don't make it part of the artwork. Sorry for the rambling. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Make a great connection at Yahoo! Yes, same as the original Numa release, not remastered. All the live tracks on Remodulate (from Ghost, White Noise, Dark Light and Dream Corrosion) were remastered, though. > > Speaking of the Cleo stuff I purchase Strange Charm > and Sacrifice since they were going for $6.99 and to > hear some unheard tracks.. Were these remastered > (hopefully not the same as the Numa Years box set); I had Sacrifice remastered myself, before the box set was released, and added just a touch of high end for clarity - I didn't want to affect the original sound, just clean it up, without going too far. I think it sounds better than the original cd. I also tried to equalize the sound a bit because the bonus tracks which were mastered separately had a different (much brighter) sound from the album tracks. I think I did use the Eagle remasters for Strange Charm, BUT the bonus tracks were exclusive and were mastered specifically for the Cleo release. I believe I still have the only available cd version of the 12" of NTFLT, which I think sounds terrific. Again, the sound had to be equalized for the bonus tracks to sonically match the album tracks. So the mixes on both these cds are technically exclusive, although less so for Strange Charm. > Sacrifice's sound quality is still bad, and there is a > skip on "Magic" I believe. The artwork kinda reflects > not so much care put into it... Actually I put a great deal of care and planning into it, Cleo told me to put the name and logo at the top of the cover, and to brighten the picture, which I did. I don't have it in front of me but I think I added a couple exclusive photos. Sacrifice was the first 'remaster' cd I did, and had I had more time, I would have made the series more cohesive (ala the last few such as Strange Charm, the Fury and M+S with the small Numan photo on the spine and clear trays with artwork underneath). At that point I did not have a firm commitment from Cleo to release the entire catalog - it sort of happened a couple at a time. There was a rush because of the then upcoming (Exile) tour and they wanted to have as much Cleo material available as possible. i chose Sacrifice to be the first because it was the most recent, and i felt the strongest material overall and therefore best choice to make since it would get the most attention. Notice that M+S came out last. (heh heh) Well, actually Dark Light came out last and I never did get around to releasing Dream Corrosion, which I felt (and still do) that it's 'bootleg' quality is terrible; I tried remastering it but you can't put something in that isn't there. (ie good sound). At that point Cleo wasn't interested at all. They didn't even really want to release Dark Light. > If a mention of 5 > bonus tracks is to be made, make stickers mentioning > it, don't make it part of the artwork. Stickers were not an option at that point. none of the Numan titles I did were allowed to have stickers (they cost money) and in fact a bone of contention for me (aside from the box being the wrong size) was the sticker-like pink "button" they added to the cover of Remodulate after I submitted the final artwork... I was mortified as the artwork was orange and silver and then there's this bright neon pink button floating on top. If I'd known they were going to do that I would have a) changed the color and b) noted "liner notes by Gary Numan" which I felt was a great selling point. Although Gary did not write the liner notes specifically for the set, (even though I asked him to) I took excerpts from his book to discuss the music contained therein. I think it makes for an interesting read. I've just acquired Dream Corrosion and while I like it I feel one or two songs lack something - but then again I've only heard it twice (mind you I only got it yesterday!!) So provisionally my list would be: 1. Dark Light (Labbatts Hammersmith) The best because a) song selection (f'instance, MEAN STREET?? WOW!) b) band are excellent and c) Gary joking around, especially when he cocks up the beginning of Friends. 2. Ghost - the Exhibition Tour 3. Dream Corrosion 4. Living Ornaments 81 5. Living Ornaments 79 6. White Noise 7. The Skin Mechanic Skin Mechanic comes off worst only because it's a short album - I much prefer the double live CDs, therefore all the others gain precedence. There's nothing especially wrong with it. On another note I am thrilled the have acquired the two CDs I was after most - I wouldn't say to complete my collection, but to fill in some important gaps. On Wednesday my copy of Dream Corrosion arrived from the states. I ordered this through www.theCDdepot.com. I placed my order on 8th October and it arrived, in perfect condition, 17th October. I recommend The CD Depot and www.gemm.com for hard-to-get stuff. And today, I received a copy of Automatic by Sharpe and Numan that I successfully bid for on Ebay for £8.50 including p&p. I sent off my cheque on Monday and received it Thursday, so I'm well pleased! Finally, are there any other live CDs out there that digesters can recommend?
