I am sure that a lot of the digesters were there..How about we trade of memories to recreate the "event" . I just found it totally cool at age 16, dressed Numanesque, being in London full of people dressed the same...Local record shops having albums featured, pubs full of Numanoids...ahh what a memory...Your opinions. Oh and the name is paul gifford NOT Guiford, bloody spell check!! I have a lot of great photos also, anyone care to trade? Cheers. I just put it onto CD, and it is incredible. The bass work is amazing, he was using the fretless bass at this point(Cars is amazing with it). He does "The Iceman Comes" and "This Prison Moon" before he brought the girls into the mix, so it is all him on those tracks, his last bastion of "solo-hood" before he brought in the backup singers. And my favorite, a rare performance of "This is My House" from "I, Assassin". The quality is excellent for a bootleg, though it is still obvious it is a bootleg. If anyone remembers, the record sleeve had a picture of "Fish" from Marillion on it, not even Gary- they put the wrong guy on the cover!!! "We intend to repackage all of our old videos (those that we can find) and rerelease them on video and DVD. Before anyone writes in I will not be going back to those old recordings and remixing stuff in 5.1, I don't have the time, inclination or the equipment to go back to 20 year old tape stock, much of which has deteriorated beyond use, and remixing stuff so that the hihat can sound like it's living up someones backside. The old stuff will be made available on DVD, with few extras. The pricing will reflect that however. " So it DOES at least look good that we can see the old stuff on DVD! Also, regardin Don Bakers comments, the Dream Corrosion is a great live CD. He sounds more into it than most of the other live CDs. The best he has done since Living Ornaments IMHO. It is also my understanding, that the Live CD you just bought, IS the same CD, just repackaged. There's nothing really wrong with, eg, The Skin Mechanic (hearing this made me want to start going to concerts!). But the mix of songs Gary chooses to perform now is more to my liking anyway.... Paddy Vickers ------------------------------>> I agree. This happens to be one of my favorite live albums, if not my favorite of all. Dark Light for Dream Corrosion. Sorry all. Good night! Mark Hubbard ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 19 Oct 2001 09:28:46 +0200 From: luc.de_visscher@ch.novartis.com Subject: Best live albums Off course, the Living Ornaments are in a class of their own. I feel the best one is Dream Corrosion, but the problem, and the reason why I almost never play it, is because the sound quality is so bad. Anyway, it has the best version of Are friends electric? ever. I love the heavy metal intro. Never liked Kipper though, but the infro is great. White Noise at one time was also very good. Just because the Live EP of AFE was a huge success, being 9 weeks in the top 5 of voters charts on a main Belgian radio station. I recall White Noise being on 44 in the top 50 of Albums Charts at a certain point. It was released on CD far too late, and also Berserker couldn't be found on CD easily in Belgium. Sales were definitely lost then. I remembering buying the Sharpe and= Numan album, putting it on the CD player and spending the next half an hour composing my own epitaph for Gazza's career in my head. It was so bad I was sure he would have no fans left afterwards. At least I was wrong in that respect. I think I sold my copy of the album to someone on the Digest a few years= ago for ten pounds or so (not much less than what I paid for it) - and I= felt so guilty about the deal I threw in some old tour programmes to sweeten the deal. I later discovered that they were worth a fair bit of money themselves! -- Tom Gorham Forge Design ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 19 Oct 2001 12:00:15 -0000 From: Markus Dietrich Subject: Live albums & sound qualities I do have - Asylum 3 (Living Ornaments 79/81) - White Noise - Skin Mechanic - Dream Corrosion (- Pure Lim.Ed. Disc 2) Best IMO are the Living Ornaments, maybe because I am too romatic for that period of Gary I will never come through :-) And I think its a good quality! White Noise and Dream Corrosion are interessting to have, but the sound quality, especially of DC are very dull(?). Skin Mechanic is not really bad. It is a more 'rockn roll' directed live work, I think. Very poor synths;-( BUT I think the sound quality is at its best, because crystal clear!!! Is it produced by people who not connected to Gary, maybe really professionals? I ask this because I remember on the CD Single 'Like a refugee', you know the Dadadang thing. On that song you can imagine how crystal clear Garys voice can be, if professionals mixed it up! Don't understand me wrong! I do think that it is an kind of art thing that Gary today tries to have a dull voice, but in the past I think it was bad production!
