And all this time I thought it was pronounced "Kippah". ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 25 Nov 2001 08:51:31 -0000 From: "Vickers" Subject: Numan Disco, including Replicas Not exactly earth-shattering news to most of you, but I thought it was only right that I should tell you about the Numan Disco which happened last weekend at Crick, just off the M1, near Rugby. Pete and Frank organised it, and it was attended by 75 people, which I understand was enough for it to break even! Except for those held at the Numan Conventions, I had never been to a Numan Disco before, and they seem to have dies the death generally. I was too busy talking to people to get into the disco hall early on, but the choice of tracks was good, and apparently I missed a DJ called Kenny completely. When I did get inside the DJ was Roger (Millington?), but no-one was dancing. I decided to get things moving, and before long it was quite lively on the dance floor. Incidentally, apart from Pete and Frank I only recognised two people! Then it was broken up for the obligatory raffle: CDs, tickets to forthcoming events, etc. This was followed by a tribute band, who I am fairly sure were called Replicas, although I can't actually confirm that from any of the paperwork!! For my money they were the best Numan tribute band I have seen. The singer had a round face, so although he pulled Gary's facial expressions, it looked wrong. He looked very nervous to me at first. But when he opened his mouth to sing, "I Die, You Die", you could have believed it was Gary's voice! I did not count how many they did, but it included "Moral", "Disconnect", "We Are Glass", "AFE", "Complex", "My World Storm", "Listen To My Voice"..... The man was so good it was a real shock when he spoke to us in his own voice and it was a Yorkshire accent (roughly like they talk in "The Full Monty"). There were only three of them - a guitarist (who had to cover lots of parts!), the singer, and a keyboard player with several keyboards to have a go at. He also did great vocal parts to cover film samples, such as "father to son" and, "Quite an experience to live in fear, isn't it?" They had their own sound and lights engineer thrown in! So next time Pete and Frank organise a Numan disco featuring a tribute band, come and join the mosh pit! Paddy Vickers ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 25 Nov 2001 11:24:01 +0100 From: luc.de_visscher@ch.novartis.com Subject: Eagle records In the belgian papers there was an interview with the management of Eagle records. Gary isn't mentioned at all in the interview, but apparently they have a solid idea of what they want to reach. Moreover, they have signed Yes, Somple Minds (!) and Nik Kershaw (???) recently. If Gary indeed doesn't have another deal pending, it might have been a bad idea to leave Eagle. I surely hope we are nog going back to the "NUMA" era, where Numan records couldn't be found anywhere. Moreover, it is rather calm on the Numan front, isn't it? Websites not being updated,no news whatsoever on concerts or promotions or records. What is going on? Hope to hear something very soon, Luc The Numan Factor BELGIUM ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 25 Nov 2001 21:35:01 +1100 From: "David P Banks" Subject: Only gods walk on water....SS Paddy Vickers asked (regarding Sister Surprise) "On the subject, does anyone know what the extra lyrics are, which don't appear on the sleev notes? Something like: Oh, the water, The water is wet or SOMETHING!" Doesn't it say "Only gods walk on water so I'll just sink or swim with you" So is the 12" different to the album version...??? I am reading conflicting stories. Also, on the radio here in Australia, I just heard a song with the riff from M.E. AND a bit of Engineers from the PP album. Has anyone else heard it? What song and by whom?? G'day to my Californian buddies and to Jim "The Machman" Napier and Jim "COGN" Collins. Jim C., your CD is brilliant, I love it! Thanks mate. Readers, if you don't have a copy of Jim's tribute album "The Church of Gary Numan...A Dark Celebration" GET YOURSELF A COPY!! Also the profics are going to a worthy cause.
