--------------------------------------------------------------------- T H E G A R Y N U M A N D I G E S T (by subscription only - to unsubscribe, see bottom of this message) --------------------------------------------------------------------- (#2001-35) - Topics This Issue: 1) BB remasters 2) new label ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Mon, 17 Dec 2001 20:55:10 -0800 (PST) From: Ruff Ryder Subject: BB remasters I was just wondering about the Warriors re-mastered album, besides if any light can be shed on remastering (how it's going, any new tracks, etc...) was the font color. I've seen the "standard" orange gold whatever color letter outline , and also the white (on a canadian version I found here in Maryland). Wonder which color will be used on the re-master. On the subject of the remasters, I was reluctant to purchase them as I had the 2-cd issues. I said to myself no, I won't buy them. I first picked up Tubeway Army because of the bonus tracks. My only problem w/ it was Everyday I Die now had fadeout which was not on the vinyl or the older cd version. Also, which shows you how anal I am, the discography has erroneous times for tracks. I looked at the time listing for Cars on the PLeasure Principle remaster and said "BB did it again and faded it early! I still have to listen to it on the Big 80s cd". What I like to do is raise the volume on my discman as the song fades to hear the music. On the previous issues from BB, it faded early at around 3:47 and on Premier Hits it was 3:55; On the remaster which I picked up after purchasing Dance; for the song "Dance" and since Telekon was on sale, i thought what the hell and picked up Pleasure Principle as well. To my delight I did my test on Cars, and the song is faithful to the vinyl and had more "sonic detail" toward the end compared to the Big 80s. A tad bit more you could hear, clocking in at 3:57; my only disappointment was that the volume is lower so you can't hear as well, but at least the detail is there. As for Conversation, and Metal. I was amazed with the Telekon remaster in particular The Joy Circuit. When I heard it I thought it might have been a different take. It sounded great. Also there was slightly more you could hear at the end of the song with my "test". This led me to pick up Replicas, and the Plan. Now i've all the Beggars Banquet remasters! Now I anxiously await I, Assassin and Warriors; great albums. Not to mention I await the rarities album and the work to begin on the live albums of the Warriors Tour, potentially I Assassin, and Teletour. The studio remasters, with the sound quality, and artwork quality (they actually still have the original artwork and haven't lost it: Numa... cough.. cough)are first class. Great job to Steve Webbon. Also wondering if the Numa years box set was remastered from the studio tapes. I hope the Cleo Strange Charm isn't the same "remaster" as that of Eagle cause "My Breathing" and "Strange Charm" are missing a few seconds at the end. Compare it to that of say the Receiver records compilations. Do my test and see. I know I'm anal, but oh well, BB have set the standard. P.S. Where the hell is Cedric Shapley?! __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Check out Yahoo! Shopping and Yahoo! Auctions for all of your unique holiday gifts! I appreciate the update, and am sure a lot could change between now and the launch of his new CD. I can see why Gary tires from the negative messages, and why he doesn't read the digest. If all I had to read about my exciting news was: "sends the viewer a negative message" when I felt as though I were on the brink of a new exciting career move, I wouldn't read the crap either. I did not write this to anger anyone or take stabs at a fellow digester, I just wonder if all the judgemental remarks are necessary. I enjoy Gary's music, I enjoy reading how others feel about his music, I enjoy the "favorite lists" that pop up from time to time, and I enjoy the details of someones concert experience....I don't care to read about why someone thinks Gary made a bad career move, a lousy paragraph on his web site, or any other pettiness. Yeah, I guess I live in a dream world, but hey, it's my dream! Maybe a "name the label" contest would be a good idea!
