Did he go anywhere nice? ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 21 Dec 2001 08:01:42 -0700 From: "Joey Lindstrom" Subject: Am I On Drugs? I'm just having a listen to "Little Invitro" for the first time on headphones. And I have either noticed something I hadn't noticed before, or I'm on drugs - neither can be ruled out at this point. :-) At just over the 2 minute mark, Gary launches into the second interation of the chorus bit, singing "If only... if only..." Well, what I'm hearing is a very, very faint almost... echo. But it sounds female, as if he's laid down a female backing track at some point, and then either removed it or reduced the volume to near zero. (This is ONLY on "If only... if only...") Can anyone else hear this? It could easily just be an artifact of the effects he's using, but it was somewhat startling when I first noticed it. / From the desk of Joey Lindstrom / / "Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and one you should not / fall asleep during." / --Everything I Need To Know I Learned From Babylon 5 ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 21 Dec 2001 11:18:04 -0600 From: "Val & Ben Iglar-Mobley" Subject: happy atheist-children-get-presents-too day! > Just wondering if people would like to share their > "best music of 2001" here on the Numan Digest? Great idea, Rick, except, uh, 2001 has been a little thin for me, musically. One album stands far in front, though... 1) Gwenmars - Driving A Million I've said before this album is every bit as good as they were live, and it is still, several months on. I also said they sound like the bastard love children of Jesus Jones and Echo & the Bunnymen, but they don't. There's nothing bastardized about them, whatever their musical lineage. On the downbeat, I heard their first album in a used record shop. Let's just say they've improved. A lot. Other than that, um, how about the likely top choices from 2001 albums I haven't gotten yet... 2) They Might Be Giants - Mink Car 3) Midge Ure - Move Me > HAPPY WINTER SOLSTICE ALL YOU PAGANS > OUT THERE! :) Well, Happy Solstice to you, too, Hopey, you lovely pagan you! I don't quite know how to send actual presents through the internet, yet, so let me send a tip instead as a present to all. The online store for The Onion offers t-shirts with various snide and sarcastic legends on them, and one suggests itself perfectly for us 'noids who get so much derision from the rest of the music world ("radio station, thank you for nothing")... and would love to offer some back. They have one you can order there that reads: "Your favorite band sucks." http://store.TheOnion.com love, sarcastic and actually not all that pagan, Ben * * * [Please ignore and excuse the following advertisement.] ---------------------------------------------------- Sign Up for NetZero Platinum Today Only $9.95 per month! http://my.netzero.net/s/signup?r=platinum&refcd=PT97 ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 21 Dec 2001 22:32:24 -0000 From: "Vickers" Subject: Re: Dream of Siam I have just read the latest edition of Alien. I found it very readable, although other people will no doubt find fault with it. However, I was interested in the page about the I, Assassin album, in which Gary is asked whether it was himself whistling at the end of "Dream of Siam". He replies , in effect, yes, but he's not very good at it. As far as I can recall, on the Images albums, he says that he is quite unable to whistle. Indeed, it is the only way in which he does not take after his father. Also, as I recall, at one of the Numan Conventions Gary was asked about the end of this track, and he said it was not him, but Dennis Haines whistling on the record. Does anyone else have any recollections on this matter?
