After more than twenty years, it's finally happened. Columbia House Record & Tape Club is carrying a Gary Numan album. I thought I'd never see the day, but there it is: Down In The Dark, on the CH website, for $21.98. I wasn't planning on buying this disc set, but I will order it from CH to show them they should carry more Numan titles. In fact, anyone who doesn't have this 2-cd set should get it from Columbia. Maybe they'd wake up and start offering most of Gary's catalogue to those who haven't been fortunate enough to have discovered his music otherwise. Not that it made a difference in this case, but a few months back I emailed Columbia House and flat out told them they should offer Gary's music in the club, citing him as being influential on modern bands and musicians, and pointing out that fans spend a ton of money on his products and CH would be foolish not to get in on making some of that money. Maybe it helped. Has anyone else badgered the record clubs about Numan? Mike ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 21 Jan 2002 14:52:57 -0800 From: Rod Reynolds Subject: Re: Numan in Da House! (Columbia House that is) Hi. I'm not raining on your parade here. The music clubs do not give the artist full royalties, and in some cases no royalties at all on their own work. When you get the 12 cds for 1c or whatever, the artists don't get paid. Even when you buy a cd from Columbia House or BMG the artist does not receive full payment, as if you had bought it in a Tower Records or HMV. This is why many artists have it in their contracts that their cds are NOT to be sold through record clubs. PS I think it's Down in the Park. (the alternative anthology) and it's worth getting, all rare versions. Although I thought the list price was $19.98. I've seen it in stores for $12.
