Actually, no. If you shoplift a cd from a store, the artist still gets paid for it. The store has already bought that cd, paid the record company for it (although usually they get 60-90 days to pay), who in turn pays the artist their percentage. the artist and the record company don't know whether the cd was sold or stolen. The only one who loses if you steal a cd off the shelf is the store itself. > Even if the special live edition of "Exhibition" does cost 50 dollars, you > still can't legally or morally take it for free. I assume this doesn't exist, and is being used as a theoretical example. The highest I had to pay for Numan items was for the Japanese Asylum cds, in was it 89? . I couldn't afford them all at the time, but I bought as many as I could. (which I think was only one of the three, I got the others years later in a shop in New York) I remember that day, standing in Tower Records in Sunset, I had just come to LA and had NO money, no job, no friends, and there was my dream come true - the entire BB catalog remastered with bonus tracks. I think they were $85 (US) each. Such euphoria, and such tragedy all at once. Major trauma. I seriously remember standing right there in the store thinking HOW am I going to get the money for these?!! Essential!!! Also, many years later, I paid $50 for a Sharpe & Numan cd (and the same for the Radio Heart cd) from some guy in Germany, but by then I was working, I had NEVER seen them on cd and it was worth it. Well, it's a terrible album (both of them) but it was still worth it. 'o) It's always been a challenge to be a Numan fan, and it takes a certain kind of person to do it. Collecting his VAST catalog of cds, singles, vinyl, videos, tour programs, and with most of them imports or out of print, is VERY expensive, particularly in North America. I consider myself a true fan, but even I can't keep track of everything. (I'm always a bit hazy on the late 80's early 90's material.) (New Anger/ Outland/ Machine + Soul etc) And unlike the UK, he's hardly ever around, so we don't get much fan connection, to him or amongst ourselves. But I think that's part of the charm, that we are in the know, that we have him all to ourselves. That we're so cold we're cool. How would we feel if SUDDENLY he signed to Nothing Records, distributed by Universal, made the videos, toured with Nine Inch Nails, had the merchandise - cds, singles, dvds, was on tv and on the magazine covers... as successful as Trent Reznor himself... if not more. It sounds far fetched but it's ACTUALLY possible. (Who could have predicted that CHER would have a world wide number one hit in her 50's) But is that what we want? Hmmmm... If you are in any way intelligent, it would be wise to always write in the third person so as to avoid confrontations on this list. Secondly, the purpose of the list is to discuss Numan stuff 'openly', and not to demean anyone nor belittle them due to his/her own views. I have encountered 'individuals' as yourself who attempt to persecute, harass, and ultimately single-out other fans on these lists who have real views, and not the limited coffee bean brain you possess. So, Terrance, are you going to harass another fan, or be smart and change.
