Ya got me, but I'm assuming the UK - date? I dunno, but I had my discussions with Mr. Heatley as late as October of 2001, so this has been put out rather quickly. I did a search for it on cdnow.com and couldn't find it, but did find it at amazon.co.uk. Gary Perkins said he found it in an HMV Records location, in its own "section" (I think that was his word), so it looks like it's being promoted. >Congrats BTW, Joey. Thanks! :-) I'm told it says "compiled by Joey Lindstrom" on it. Coooooool! :-) Sheesh, this is the second time my name's appeared on a Numan issue (the first being the Tubeway Army reissue) - maybe I should go for the record! Say, what IS the record? :-) (For fans, that is - I think Gary himself holds the actual record, heh heh). / From the desk of Joey Lindstrom / / "Make love, not treaties." / --Everything I Need To Know I Learned From Babylon 5 ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 05 Feb 2002 18:22:11 -0700 From: "Joey Lindstrom" Subject: In the interest of accuracy... Now that I have access to my old correspondence with Michael Heatley, let me correct one error I made and also correct an oversight, from the previous Digest: First, it was their (Snapper Records) idea in the first place to make "Dark Wonders" as a two-disc set, not mine. In fact, my emails show that I got it exactly backwards: I urged going with a single disc, and dropping most of the older stuff and just sticking with the newer (in other words, I'd have just gone with what wound up as disc #2, and dropped #1). But at the price they're selling this thing at, well, it's like you're getting a free disc anyways. Second, it looks like I owe a big thank-you to Dave Datta for this. I'm not sure how Mr. Heatley got in touch with Dave, but he (Heatley) says that Dave recommended me to him. So, a great big THANK YOU DAVE!!!!!!!!!!!!! :-) (Heatley also noted that his "original compiler" had let him down and that we had to work fast. So, looks like I was a second choice. But I'll take it, heh heh!) OK, now that I've got all that out of my system, you can all start slanging me for helping out one of those dirty, rotten, stinking compilation labels. ;-) / From the desk of Joey Lindstrom / / "Beware Shadows. This is what happened when I did the two cd Remodulate (my title btw) compilation for Cleopatra. All they really cared about was that Cars was on it. And everything that it could be on. I'm assuming Cars and IDYD will be live versions, otherwise they'd have to licence the originals from BB. At least they are added onto the ends of each disc, almost a bonus track, or at least a pshychological afterthought. Since stylistically and historically these tracks do not belong in this collection. Artistically, they simply should *not* be there. > Well, I'm home now, with access to my old email folder, and it looks > like the title "Dark Wonders" is indeed one of mine, in fact it was my > first choice. Hmmmm. > Overall compilation possible titles: "Dark Wonders", "A Voice In The > Dark", "The Black Messiah", "In My Darkness" I would agree they chose the best title of these considered. Isn't Mohammed Ali the black messiah? Or James Brown? George Clinton? A Voice in the Dark - I get a picture of Celine Dion at the beginnning of her Vegas show, a capella... *brrrr* Also there's the Manilow song, One Voice singing in the darkness. But only *I* would go there ;o) > Similarly, the dropping of the two "Pure" tracks from disc #2 also > makes zero sense. I figure, though, that this was the sort of decision > that was made by someone in the marketing department. At least they > left everything else alone. Your initial post on this subject said you had five tracks from Pure. That would be too many - the purpose of this collection, aside from sales obviously, is to lure listeners to the other catalog. If they've already got five tracks from a ten (12 ?) track album they're not as likely to buy it. Although I love Little Invitro, so that's too bad. Still, commercially, they've made a strong decision. I would love to see the two tacked on live tracks labelled as 'bonus tracks'. It's a good, solid pop record, complete with cheesey video. It always makes me smile. And Machine and Soul... I have listened to the album severl times recently (I criticised it on the Digest a while back, and called Love Isolation 'the worst Numan ballad', and some people emailed me saying they liked that song so I decided M&S needed a re-evaluation) - and while I stand by my statement that M&S is the worst Numan album and Love Isolation is a poor ballad BY NUMAN STANDARDS, I have to say hat the album is a good one and LI is a good ballad. I guess the Human League must have been talking about Numan when they said 'your worst is better than their best' - so now the only Numan song I actively dislike is 1999, and only then because the Prince version is so much better, and it galls to hear someone else do a song Numan recrded better than Numan :> But I was supposed to be talking about Emotion. I remember the Emotion tour - I went to 4 gigs including Belgium - Numan toured a single! And I liked the single then and I like it now. But noboy else seems to. Is my taste really that bad?
