Without giving the full story, Gary was '= mislead' into licensing 50 odd tracks for an advance lump sum way back in = the 80's. However, it appears that this has been interpreted so that = Receiver (or any other company that has subsequently owned them) can do = what the hell they like with those tracks without ANY further payment to = Gary. Unfortunately these companies have a lot more money to fight a court = case than Gary so the same tracks are constantly recycled as there are no = artist royalties to pay, cheap artwork and they are mastered from other CD'= s - ie.low costs. The FAll also have the same problem and appear to = release 4 albums a year! ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 11 Feb 2002 17:33:35 -0500 From: Michael Tressler Subject: Note to Joey Joey, I hope you didn't think I was being overly critical of your song picks for Dark Wonders. In fact, my hat's off to you for getting not only the opportunity to be involved in a Numan CD release but for coming up with a very good mix of songs, being that there is just so material to choose from, and also considering your own favorites as well as fan and non-fan favorites. Just wondered about a couple of your picks and you answered my questions quite well. I still would have changed a couple songs, but hey, wouldn't we all like to make our own Numan compilation release? BTW, I've played a few Numan discs for a non-fan co-worker, and he seems to like Machine & Soul the best, especially the Prince covers. But then, he listens to everything from Backstreet Boys to Linkin Park. Go figure.
