It's not just the Numa back-catalogue involved here, but the Eagle stuff as well (ie: Pure and Exile). I was told, when I submitted my track listing, that "Eagle" were to have the final say, which I presume is how both "Cars" and "I Die: You Die" (the latter of which is live, and the former of which I suspect is live) managed to get on there. Snapper sublicenced this from Eagle and we had, at our disposal, everything from every Numa and Eagle release starting with "Berserker" (and thus excluding Metal Rhythm and Outland - too bad too, cuz then we coulda had a pretty good THREE disc set, heh heh!). What you say may well be true, but it seems obvious to me that the landscape has changed at least somewhat since then. Can you add anything? >Date: Mon, 11 Feb 2002 17:33:35 -0500 >From: Michael Tressler >Subject: Note to Joey > >Joey, I hope you didn't think I was being overly critical of your song >picks for Dark Wonders. I'd love to say "hey, wouldn't we all?", but coming from me, that's a biased opinion. :-) I *LOVED* the experience and it's even more fun now that the record's actually on the market. :-) Don't mistake my exuberance/passion for ill feelings. Indeed, had you simply come out and said "this sucks!" without giving some reasons, I'd have just dismissed your comments. Instead you offered a well-reasoned critique and, by doing so here, invited me to respond. Which I did. Hey man, I love to debate, which is why my response was so lengthy. :-) No hard feelings at all - I enjoy talking about this (though I suspect everyone else is getting a bit tired of the topic by now). Indeed, I could go on at length right now about many topics, but right now "the" topic of conversation here in North America is how five European and Asian judges ripped off Sale and Pelletier in the Olympic figure skating fiasco. Since that's non-Numan, I'll stop while I'm ahead. :-) >BTW, I've played a few Numan discs for a non-fan co-worker, and he seems >to like Machine & Soul the best, especially the Prince covers. But then, >he listens to everything from Backstreet Boys to Linkin Park. Go figure. I can't remember which comedian said this first (might have been Dennis Miller), or even if I'm quoting it right, but whoever it was said something like this: "I'm absolutely convinced that there not only is life on other worlds, but many of them are living among us today, secretly. Who do you think is buying all those Michael Bolton records?" (This, obviously, is about a ten-year-old quote) / From the desk of Joey Lindstrom / / Today's history note: In 1914, Archduke Franz Ferdinand, heir to the / throne of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, was assassinated by Serbian / terrorists in Bosnia. Do you think he would? I, for one, even though it meant seeing him on a great late night show, would hope he'd say no. Call me selfish if you will. It's just hard to see the man do that song over and over, and the whole VH1 thing gives me the feeling it would really be NICE of Gary if he DID do that song for Conan. ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 13 Feb 2002 13:03:06 -0000 From: "dryad" Subject: Totally OT: Todd Eldridge (Olympics) Does anyone else think that Todd Eldridge's costume in the Men's Short Program was remarkably similar to Gary's outfit on Telekon? I can't see too well! Dear all, My take on 'Dark Wonders'? Good work, Joey! The point is not that Joey made a new compilation happen. It sounds like whoever they are were going to put out a comp ANYWAY. Joey just made sure it had a good selection. I mean, if we were going to be hit with this thing-- like it or not-- it might as well be the best general comp they could make it. Here's a question, though. Steve pointed out that Receiver licensed something like 50 or so songs from Gary and have been endlessly recycling them into different repackagings since. Okay... but where the heck are they getting the rights to the new material from? Surely 'Exile' and 'Pure' songs couldn't have been part of that original arrangement, since they didn't even exist as albums then! Has Gary not learned his lesson? Did he sign another license to somebody? Who's doing this 'Dark Wonders'? Incidentally, great title that. Definitely the best of the suggestions you came up with, Joey. 'Dark Isolation'? Sounds like he's been locked in his parent's basement. Anyone else think the whole "dark" theme is getting a bit much? Maybe it's time for Gary to step back into those Berserker whites. You know, white is a goth color, too! Hopey, you're a gother chick, back me up on this! love and darkness, Ben * * * [Please ignore and excuse the following advertisement.] ---------------------------------------------------- Sign Up for NetZero Platinum Today Only $9.95 per month! http://my.netzero.net/s/signup?r=platinum&refcd=PT97 ------------------------------ End digest@garynuman.info Digest [02/13/2002 18:01] --------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------------- T H E G A R Y N U M A N D I G E S T is produced, moderated, and distributed by Derek Langsford, Dave Datta, and Joey Lindstrom dlangs@sunstroke.sdsu.edu, davdat@allmusic.com, Joey@GaryNuman.Info ------------------------------------------------------------------- To reply to the messages in this list, email: digest@garynuman.info If you want to be removed, or someone wants to be added, email: listserv@GaryNuman.info and include this line as the first line of your message body: SUBSCRIBE digest@garynuman.info (email address) or UNSUBSCRIBE digest@garynuman.info (email address) (email address is optional but useful if you have multiple addresses) If you want to switch between receiving Digests or individual posts, again send to listserv@GaryNuman.Info and include either of these in your message body: NORMAL digest@garynuman.info or DIGEST digest@garynuman.info ------------------------------------------------------------------ Please note: this mailing list is configured to automatically unsubscribe you if mail to your mailbox goes undeliverable for any reason.
