We had a lot more British influence when I was growing up in Canada than here in the USA. I'm sure a Brit will give the full and accurate explanation. I've always thought it was a wee bit of a slight. Like it's slang for someone you really know well = really common = therefore don't care about much. Like, "oh there's Gazza again zzzz". To me describing someone that way seems like they're also a bit pudgy. I'm probably reading too much into it. But they also do it with Morrissey (Mazza or Mozza or something), like its the first few letters plus the slang suffix. Wacko Jacko I think also started as a brit slang for Michael Jackson. Or maybe they started the Jacko and the Yanks added the (not undeserved) Wacko part. I'm just talking to hear myself type. Hah. Interval 1, which opens the album, is one of the coolest little things Gary's ever done. Granted, for me the album would rank somewhere in the lower half of the Numan catalouge, but still not a bad effort. I liked the cover art and concept much more than most others (what the hell was up with the Berserker image, anyway?).
